What This Privacy Policy Covers

This policy covers how Gay Authors treats personal information that Gay Authors collects and receives, including information related to your past use of Gay Authors. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable like your name, email address, or IP address, and that is not otherwise publicly available.

This policy does not apply to the practices of companies that Gay Authors does not own or control, or to people that Gay Authors does not employ or manage. Websites that are linked to by Gay Authors on resource pages, our link archive, or any other place on our website may or may not have their own policies which govern their use of information they collect from you, with or without your knowledge. In no way is this privacy policy applicable on these other sites.

The terms "Gay Authors" and "Gay Authors Site" do include those pages which are hosted by Gay Authors, over which Gay Authors maintains control, including sub-domains, sub-directories, and other top-level domains over which we maintain control.

Information Collection and Use

General

Gay Authors collects personal information when you register with Gay Authors and when you use any portion of the Gay Authors site.

When you register we ask for information such as your username, email address, age, gender, sexuality, primary reason for using Gay Authors, e-mail preferences, time zone, preferences in authors, and instant messenger contact information. Excluding your e-mail address and the username chosen by you, all information is provided by you at your option and is accessible by any other member, and is therefore considered voluntarily surrendered public information. Once you register with Gay Authors and sign in to our services, you are not anonymous to us.

Gay Authors automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, Gay Authors cookie information, and the page you request.

Gay Authors and its advertising providers use information for the following general purposes: to customize the advertising and content you see, fulfill your requests for services, improve our services, contact you, conduct research, and provide anonymous reporting for internal and external clients.

Children

Children under the age of thirteen (13) are prohibited from registering with the site.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Gay Authors does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide services you've requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:

• We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims;
• We share information when we believe it is necessary in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of Gay Authors' terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.
• We transfer information about you if Gay Authors is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, Gay Authors will notify you before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
• Gay Authors, through the Google AdSense program, displays targeted advertisements based on personal information including page content and IP address. Google may use and store any information collected any information in accordance with its privacy policy which may be viewed at http://www.google.com/privacy.html and is subject to change at any time, without notice to you.
• Gay Authors does not provide any personal information to the advertiser when you interact with or view a targeted ad. However, by interacting with or viewing an ad you are consenting to the possibility that the advertiser will make the assumption that you meet the targeting criteria used to display the ad.

Cookies

Gay Authors may set and access Gay Authors cookies on your computer.

Gay Authors lets other companies that show advertisements on some of our pages set and access their cookies on your computer. Other companies' use of their cookies is subject to their own privacy policies, not this one.

Your Ability to Change Your Account Information and Preferences

General

You can edit your Gay Authors personal data, excluding your username, including your e-mail preferences, at any time.

From time to time, we may send you email communications that are considered part of your Gay Authors account, such as service announcements, administrative messages, and the Gay Authors Newsletter. You may opt in or out of receiving such communications by making the appropriate selection under "send me any updates sent by the board administrator" in the "Email Settings" area of your GA Control Panel. However, regardless of your election to "opt out", we do reserve the right to occasionally send certain email communications to you relating to the Gay Authors service and/or your account.

You can delete your Gay Authors account. However, Gay Authors reserves the right to retain any data collected under this policy, for internal use, for an indefinite period of time.

Confidentiality and Security

We restrict access to personal information about you to moderating staff who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information in order for us to administer the site.

We have physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to protect personal information about you.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Gay Authors may update this policy. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your Gay Authors account and/or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
