We are almost to the weekend and for some people, that means Easter, Spring recess, and a break from normal routines. It means a bit of free time to perhaps write. That might be for the upcoming anthology or just maybe a new prompt story. Considering it is Friday, I have new prompts to tease you and tempt you into writing.

    Prompt 752 – Creative

    Tag – First Line

Wherever he stepped the sandy beach burned and left glass imprints of his footsteps like a bizarre pathway out of hell.

    Prompt 753 – Creative

    Tag – Rebirth

You knew when you married your partner that you were accepting the problems that come with it. Different beliefs, habits, and holidays are the least of it for the two of you. Today they started the rebirth cycle. They’ve said goodbye to everyone and will spend their final hours with you before the cocoon forms.  When the cocoon opens they will be reborn. Your mate will remember everything but they will have changed. They could be the opposite sex, much younger, or the same sex but their appearance will be vastly different. Their race is known for this and goes through rebirth every twenty-five years. They live a total of close to nearly three hundred years if they don’t accidentally die. What has happened to your partner? Will they stay with you or move on?

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone has taken on the prompts lately. If you have and want to share please add the link below.

Remember to read, write, and comment. Enjoy life! Until next time.

  2. I was driving on the way to our most remote site, and this melody/lyrics began to play in my brain.  So I pulled off, recorded it, then continued on my way.

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kzx9g8bKyTRl4pzA_OC42FGXN42vo5-n

I’ll decide later if it’s worth trying to flesh out into a complete song.  Maybe ask my buddy who does Folk singing for a living what he thinks.

Till then, is the melody familiar to anybody?  It’d suck to think it’s mine when it’s not.

  3. When you make a video please keep these points in mind:

    -get to the point

    -get to the point

    -get to the point

    -get to the point

    -get to the point

-brevity is the soul of wit

-you have 15 seconds to get my attention. GET TO THE F-ing POINT! I do not want to waste time on someone babbling.

-That 5 minute title, music and stuff you did at the front end of your video? No one watched past 30 seconds. STOP THAT!

-once you are done, watch your own video. Is it bat-shit crazy? Does it posit nonsense without rational explanation? If yes, set it on fire and don't inflict it on people.

-Have you taken your meds? No? Take them and watch it again. Is it bat-shit crazy? Does it posit nonsense without rational explanation? If yes, set it on fire and don't inflict it on people.

-The number one way to marginalize yourself is to post an hours worth of exposition, bore the shit out of people or give them nonsense in the end.

-In fact most of you people making bullshit videos should probably just stop.

Here are a few people/channels that do it right. Watch and learn. They DO NOT make bullshit videos.

  4. Did you catch Monday's featured ad sharing Underthehoodter's story, First Encounters? The story takes you back to those early days when the world was a different place and romance was something new and scary and amazing... and you need to read the story find out more! If you weren't intrigued before, how about after reading this excerpt?

This moment is that first conversation, that first interaction... that WHAM! You all remember it, right? When you felt the stomach churn and the other... parts that locked on to another person and made you a complete idiot when you tried to talk to them? Yeah, that's in the story, and Underthehoodster captured it perfectly, imo. Read on! LOL

    Quote

When it was clear he wasn’t going to say anything else, I spoke up again. “So you’re reading Dune...great book, huh?”

    He just nodded.

“I just ordered the new sequel from the sci-fi club. Have you read the whole series?”

“Just the Frank Herbert ones,” he answered, glancing up at me again with just the slightest flash of momentary interest.

This was not getting any easier, but it felt desperately important to me to make real contact with this kid. Maybe I was even thinking unconsciously that I wanted to be his first friend at the new school-- like I was staking a claim or something!

“So, I was wondering if you wanted to come over and join us for lunch...”

“Oh, that’s okay,” he said, still keeping his face buried in his book. “I guess I don’t feel much like eating today...”

“First day jitters,” I said. “I just came here last year, so I know how it feels.”

At that, he did glance up for more than a few seconds, squinting in such a cutely boyish way as he lifted his face towards the noon day sun. But he didn’t say anything. His book was still open to the page he had been reading. I began to wonder if Gene had been right. Maybe I shouldn’t push him. After all, I was pretty shy when I first showed up at St. Boniface, a small school where many of the kids had known each other since kindergarten. I remembered that it had taken some heavy persuasion on the part of Morgan to get me to join in a game of Horse on my first day. I’d always be grateful to him for that kind gesture.

“We’d all like to say hi,” I explained awkwardly. “Here at St. Boniface, it’s kinda like we’re a family, you know?” I said, realizing that I sounded like the school’s recruitment brochure. “Well, a slightly dysfunctional family sometimes,” I added facetiously, “But we won’t bite...” I promised.

I was rewarded with the slightest of bashful smiles. But then he looked back at his book again and I was about to give up, my heart sinking rapidly into my sneakers. I could sense some inner struggle going on inside him, even though I was basically looking only at the top of his head. I decided that this had indeed been a bad, or at the very least, premature attempt to lure a very shy boy out of his shell on his first day in a new school, in what must have seemed to him like a very far away and different place than what he was used to.

I started to back up, getting ready to mutter some sort of apology, when he suddenly closed the book. I held my breath, waiting to see what he would do next. He put it neatly into his backpack and picked himself up, and I breathed a little easier. I resisted the urge to help him, to grab his arm--his bare arm. I wanted to touch him, feel his smooth skin, the warmth of his body and it was just weird! I was confused, nervous, and excited all at the same time. When he was up and his backpack was slung over his shoulder, he just looked at me with those big blue eyes. I felt a shiver go through me and my heart had not eased up from its insistent pounding. I just gestured with my arm and headed back for the table. I could hear Jesse trudging along behind me.

So I asked for authors to send me one of their favorite Anthologies that they'd written, this was the response I got. Don't forget, you have just under a month left to get your anthology entries to the proof team.

    @CassieQ

Statuary was probably one of the anthologies that I enjoyed writing the most and when people want to see what my writing is like, that is the story that I usually show them.  I took the theme pretty literally and while the story itself is pretty basic, the opening scene was strongly influenced by my own struggles removing wallpaper from my bathroom when I was decorating my recently acquired “I’m a grown up now” house.  Only with no cute boyfriend or cursed statue hiding in the walls.  My inner sadist also really enjoyed raining misfortune about my main character.  I just remember how much fun it was to write, from start to finish.

    @Thorn Wilde

My first and so far only Anthology submission was Half Jack, for the 2013 Winter Anthology, Recipe for Disaster. This story is very special and personal to me, because in a way it marks the start of the journey I'm currently on, by writing a character who is, in many ways, like me, though his story is very different. I'd had the idea for a while and writing it, it was like it was already waiting at my fingertips, just waiting to be let out.

    @northie

This was my first antho submission, early on in my writing journey. I remember I was entirely caught up in its creation: it was by far the longest piece I'd written. It's quite unlike anything else I've written since. That's not a criticism, only an observation. Maybe it's a demonstration that the anthos are there to experiment with. I certainly did with The Bard's Tale: a fairy tale set in an alternative Middle Ages. A collaboration with @Parker Owens (he provided the bard's verse), it's set out in the manner of a filmscript. Writing this story was enormous fun and a fantastic learning experience.

    @Headstall

Dirty Pool came to me on a 32K bike ride, completely out of the blue. By the time I arrived back home, I had the beginning, middle, and end, as well as most of the conversations. I can honestly say I don't remember the ride itself, other than it was hot as hell that afternoon. I often write stories in my head, but this was a first, physically exerting myself to such a degree while it happened. I didn't begin the actual process right away, but I didn't need to. It stuck with me in every detail until the time came to write it down. It was a fun story to write, mostly because I love dialogue, and this one was mostly that. And I have to say Kelly was one of my  all-time favorite side characters to write. Cheers... Gary....

Just when you thought you knew a guy, you find out how little you know! And then, to top it all off, he chooses to use deceit and misguidance to throw everyone further off the track. It has been pointed out that he didn't lie, but to me he might have just well have :(. I'm not willing to turn my back on him and I think no one else should either :D.

I've found you're the only one I hold on to in the doubt

Everyone was there from all around town

To kick the summer off hard and loud

And in the crowd you managed to stand out

Took a minute and we laughed out loud

No other people seemed to matter somehow

I felt for certain you were the one

I swear I could see shooting stars

When you leaned in and stole my heart

When the chorus hit we had it all

Wouldn’t care if the world fell apart

Nothing missing but the fire is ours

    A Kiss In The Dark

Just as quick as we met we said ‘bye’

Because he said he had to leave this town

And the summer just flew right by

It’s an extraordinary thing that stays

A lantern that stays on for life

In the memory of that night

I swear I could see shooting stars

When you leaned in and stole my heart

When the chorus hit we had it all

Wouldn’t care if the world fell apart

Nothing missing but the fire is ours

    A Kiss In The Dark

    His wicked

    Sense of humor

    Suggests

    Exciting sex!

    His fingers

    They focus on him

    Touches

    He's Venus as a boy

    He believes in a beauty

    He's Venus as a boy

    He's exploring

    The taste of his

    Arousal

    So accurate

    He sets off

    The beauty in him

    They know

    What to say

    Hear me

    Without Words

    Without sound

Is there a way to you?

    You only need touch

    To know us

    You only need touch

    To know us

    See my eyes

    Feel my love for you

    It can never fade

I’m there when I close my eyes

    Spinning in clouds of light

    Nothing ever can compare

    To us

    Nothing ever can compare

    To us

    I wouldn’t try

    I wouldn’t try

  9. Gay Authors Articles

    Comicality
    Latest Entry

    By Comicality,

One element of storytelling that really makes a difference when writing is the ability to immerse your readers into the world that you are trying to create. Now, that pretty much goes without saying, of course...but one thing that I’ve learned over time is that this immersion works better when there’s a balance between ‘imagination’ and ‘information’. (I hope I’m saying that right. Let me explain...)

As I’ve stated in previous articles on my writing process, I always think of storytelling as a symbiotic relationship between the writer and the reader. We are both creating this story in different ways. One way is in my head, and one way is in theirs. It’s sort of like having a dancing partner, where I may be leading, but we both need to participate to make it the graceful expression it was meant to be. So, with my stories, I’m always trying to involve the reader’s imagination in what is going on. Visual cues and actions that allow them to build a mini movie in their heads as they read along. Meanwhile, I’m also attempting to tell the story that I want to tell. I have to deliver a certain amount of information so that everybody is on the same wavelength in terms of what’s going on. The best way to do this, in my opinion, is through dialogue. Narration and prose from a writer gets to be an old trick after a while, and I find dialogue to be a much more interesting way to get certain plot points across to your audience instead of just long explanations from the writer that doesn’t involve and active participation from the story’s main characters. However...sometimes that can create a slight problem.

If anyone thinks that an extremely long monologue from one main character to another main character is going to be seen as anything different from author narration...you would be mistaken. Hehehe! You’ve got to remember...readers are savvy to those tricks in this day and age. They are devouring hundreds of hours of media every single day. They know exposition when they hear it. And while you may just have to say, “Screw it! it’ll just have to be exposition, then!” every now and again...there are still a few magic tricks up the authors’ sleeve that can help with this.

First things first...try to break the ‘monologue’ temptation if you can. This is when you want to explain a character’s motivations or big plot points of the story, and the other characters is basically like, “Well, sure...let me tell you all about it.” And then he or she ends up talking for 75 paragraphs in a row to break down the entire story in one sitting without ever taking a breath. Hehehe, yeah, that’s not a good idea. What is the other character doing while all of this is going on? Does he just sit down on a carpet with his legs crossed like a kindergartner getting a bedtime story? What’s happening here?

Think about it. What would you do if you casually asked somebody how their day was going, and that led to a 45 minute explanation? Would your mind wander? Would you find that strange? Would you get frustrated after a while? Well...you readers would too. When it comes to exposition dialogue and drawn out explanations that you feel need to be included in your story, always keep in mind that your audience’s attention span can be easily broken if you don’t throw in an occasional change up every now and then. It doesn’t mean that the information is boring or that anything is wrong with your story...it just means that you would do better to cut it up into bite size pieces first. That’s all.

As with most of these little writing tips, this isn’t hard to accomplish. It’s just hard to notice if you’re not looking for it.

The easiest way to do this in a dialogue is to simply keep in mind that two people are having this conversation. Involving the secondary character in the discussion can be much more involving. Say...you have an astronaut landing on Mars for the first time...and he runs into an alien being. Well, what the…??? How is this possible? How did we not know you aliens existed? How did you hide yourselves from us all this time...and why? The alien may say (In perfect English...which is a whole other explanation in itself!), “My Earthling friend...let me tell you all about it.” And that can end up being a monologue that goes on for pages and pages without end. Word to the wise...readers will mentally and emotionally check out if you hit them with an unbroken wall of text telling that whole story in one go. I’m assuming you guys don’t want that.

Get your astronaut involved! He’s completely oblivious as to what is going on here. Have him ask questions. Have him be shocked or maybe even negatively react to what he’s being told. Have him make comments of his own. Play both sides of the conversation in a way that will keep a momentum going in your story. Have them both learn something along with your readers. A simple ‘back and forth’ can save you from the infamous ‘ton of bricks’ wall of text that a percentage of your readers might get bored with or just skip altogether to get back to the meat of the story.

It sucks to have to think about these things sometimes, but I’ve found that it helps to keep this as a rule in the back of your mind.

That’s the ‘information’ part of the equation, and that’s in the hands of the writer. Here’s where we can use the ‘imagination’ part of this to keep readers interested as they visually picture the scene unfolding in front of them.

This part doesn’t take any dialogue at all, or even a back and forth with another character if that isn’t an option for that particular scene. It’s just a matter of using your talents as an author to paint a picture and put it into motion. You’ve spent all of this time thinking about the information that you want to deliver to the people reading your story, and you’ve got someone talking about it, acting as a vessel for the big message you’re trying to push out there, right? Well, what’s happening while that character is doing that? Think about it...when you talk to anyone at length in real life (AFK)...what else is going on during that time. Take a moment and think about it.

What are you looking at? What are your hands doing? Are you standing up? Are you sitting down? Do you look around the room? Do you speak up, or do you lower your voice, depending on whatever it is being discussed? Are you guzzling a soda, sucking on a cough drop, staring at your cell phone? What’s going on? Use those details in your story. Break up that dialogue with visual actions that your readers can see, hear, feel, and relate to. Make a virtual movie out of it.

I want you guys take a look at this opening scene from the movie “Pulp Fiction”. I truly believe that one Quentin Tarantino’s most amazing signature talents is his flair for dialogue. There are times when he can turn the most random, off topic, conversations into a work of art. But, beyond that...I want you to take notice of what the actors are doing with this scene, and think about how you would write it into a story if you had to.

    Here it is...

Now, if you guys were to close your eyes and just listen to this...the whole scene is just dialogue, dialogue, dialogue. It’s two people sitting in a restaurant booth, discussing a robbery scheme. However, look at everything else that’s going on in this scene. Pay attention to what the actors are doing here during the conversation. The visuals. They are not just sitting there discussing a robbery. They are in motion. They are displaying emotions. They are giving each other clues. They’re...in a word...’alive’ in this scene. When you’re writing, I’ve always found it important to bring a certain life to the conversations as they’re happening.

These two people are doing things that can be described in your writing. They lean in to look each other in the eye. One might take a drag off of his cigarette, or clip the ashes off into the ashtray. Take a sip of coffee, smile at the waitress, lay their head on the table, put his foot up on the seat, speak in a hushed tone...these are all things that you can use to break up the monotony of an extended scene of dialogue when writing your story. Even if you have a ton of information to deliver in that once scene...you can ‘jazz it up’ a little bit by adding a sense of motion to what’s being said. Maybe you write a few sentences of dialogue...and then the speaking character walks over to take a look out of the window. Write a few more sentences, then he looks back over his shoulder and, with a wave of his hand, silently offers the other character a seat. Maybe they’re sharing a drink, or eating a snack. Maybe one of them has a nervous twitch or a habit of tapping his foot under the table. Flesh out the rest of the scene around the dialogue and try to create a mental picture of what’s going on around your characters...all while distracting your readers from the fact that, “Geez, they sure are talking a lot!” Hehehe!

Long blocks of one character shoving an entire history lesson down the throats of your readers can be exhausting. Visuals, I feel, help to change things up a little bit. Not only to break up the dialogue blocks, but to add little quirks and nuances to your characters. Allow their natural personalities to shine through in their actions. Someone who’s full of anger may pace back and forth, make threatening gestures, or might invade another character’s personal space in a challenging manner. Someone who’s timid or shy may have trouble looking another character in the eye, and may direct his gaze down at his shoes instead. He may mumble his words under his breath. He may twiddle his fingers nervously while searching for the right words. These are all tiny little activities, sure...but sprinkling these seemingly insignificant actions throughout a meaty conversation can bring a whole new feel to that particular scene, and it will keep your readers engaged and searching for more hints and clues to pick up on with your characters, while still absorbing all of the information that you have to deliver to them. Trust me, it works. :)

    So, to wrap this up...

Information – Try to avoid heavy narration or a dialogue that no character in real life would ever bother to sit through after a few minutes or so. Break it up by involving both parties and try to swing back and forth between characters...with one asking pertinent questions, and the other character answering them. It’s just enough of a change up to keep people from getting bored.

Imagination – Add visual and ‘action’ to what your characters are doing in any given scene where their personalities are being developed, or where a heavy dose of information has to be given all in one go. Have them bashfully brush their long hair out of their eyes, have them bite their fingernails, or constantly look up at the clock to see what time it is. These micro-actions can say a lot about your character, and it can keep things active while giving your readers the amount of information that they need to move on to the next part of your story.

Watch the “Pulp Fiction” Opening again. It’s the perfect blend of both sides. Put THAT in your writing, and you can’t go wrong!

Alright, that’s all I’ve got for you this time! And as always, I hope this helps you guys to be the best writers as you can!

Take care! And I’ll seezya soon with more!

  10. 'They're doing a premium short story collection at GA,' I said, 'for Pride. Coming out stories. Thought I might submit something, got a couple of ideas. I'd get paid, even.'

'That's nice,' she said vaguely. 'I think you should try to write some more . . . accessible stories, though. You know, stories you could sell.'

Did you not hear that I may in fact get paid? I sighed. 'I can only write the stories that come to me.'

She pursed her lips. 'Of course. But you could write something that more people will want to read.'

Have you ever even read one of my stories? I wanted to ask, but I didn't. 'The stories I write are important, though. Queer representation is important. Queer voices are important. Queer writers writing queer stories is important.'

    'Well, yes . . . I'm just saying . . . If you'd like to get published, then—'

'I can self-publish. Thought I might put out my short stories.'

'Do people make money off that?'

'Some do. It's hard to find bigger publishing houses who'll publish the stuff I write. And this stuff is important, Mum. How many mainstream novels with queer protagonists written by queer writers can you name off the top of your head? Ones that have reached any real amount of critical acclaim?' I knew I was getting worked up. 'Queer representation in the media is really, really important. Did you know that the only queer actor to ever win an Oscar playing a queer role is Ian McKellan?'

'Really?' She fell silent, and I sighed.

'I have to write my stories,' I said softly, 'or there's no point.'

She let it drop. 'Oh, we're here. If you don't want Vietnamese we could go for something else.'

'No, Vietnamese is good,' I said. 'I feel like Pho.'

EDIT: Fun fact about self-publishing: The Martian, the book that got turned into a big movie with Matt Damon, that The Martian, started out being sold for Kindle for $0.20 or something like that. Guy who wrote it just wanted to give it away for free to his friends and they kept insisting on wanting to pay for it. So, yeah. Self-publishing can work.

    By Carlos Hazday,

Happy 18th birthday, Ask an Author! After today, our little feature can vote but is still unable to drink legally in the United States. I think someone has been slipping it beers behind my back, though. I found it passed out in my computer complaining of a hangover.

@AC Benus, GA’s poetry guru and the author who gets the most questions will kick off the party.

When you're not writing your own stories and poems, you seem to spend a lot of your time commenting and reviewing other stories on the site, particularly those from fairly new or unknown authors. This can be difficult because those stories are often a little unpolished but have you ever come across a hidden gem or a great story from a source that you wouldn’t have expected?

    • • •

Thank you for saying this. I often feel I don’t do enough reading and reviewing on GA. But I’ve committed to doing more. As for hidden gems, there are quite a few, however, maybe I will limit myself to one prose and one poetic recommendation.

Even in its partial form, Denn’s Mobile Circus is one of the finest novels on GA. A shifter story with several differences, it’s at times funny, thrilling, sexy, touching, horrifying – you name the experience, it’s in there – and above all, consummately written by @Twisted_Dreemz. As far as I’m concerned, it should be on everyone’s read-right-now list. (The more love we show him, hopefully the sooner he’ll get back to providing us with chapters ).

For poetry, it’s much more difficult to single out just one, as all of us poets on GA post what we love and feel. I’m pleased to say we have a growing and supportive community here for one another. However, anyone who loves good prose-storytelling will instantly respond to @MythOfHappiness' collection of poetry. He can paint a scene in a few words, and grip your heart while doing it. And, if enough of us get at him with comments, hopefully we’ll force him to actually reply to them ).

From the San Francisco area, we travel east to the mountains. My limited interactions with @MacGreg have left me with the impression of a thoughtful man who has a good sense of humor. I really do need to read more of his work

Many of your stories and longer poems seem to deal with “broken” men. How central do you see the healing process to the characters and journeys you create for them?

    • • •

This is a good question. I suppose I write about "broken" people often, because so many of us have been faced with circumstances that test our strength and resolve. Writing imperfect characters feels true and honest to me. No one is immune to the burdens of sadness, disappointment, frustration, hopelessness, etc. that pass through our lives. Dealing with the fallout is all a part of the journey, and my characters' pursuit of refuge and healing acts as a mirror to reflect our own personal determinations. I'm not one to sugarcoat circumstances when writing my characters. And, as with life, not every broken person can be made whole again. But the processes of healing and learning how to cope are definitely central points to my stories and poetry.

Since Florida is flatter than an eight-year-old’s chest, I decide to stick to the mountains and head north. When I hit the Trans-Canada Highway, I turn east until reaching the Toronto area for a visit with @Mikiesboy.

You put a great deal of feeling and emotion into your work, which you have stated is down to your own personal background, but does it sometimes also get in the way and work against you? In other words, are there subjects which you feel you cannot write about?

    • • •

The simple answer is no.  If something appeals, or comes to me and I feel it would make a good story, I'll write it.

My past still haunts me, you just do not ever get over that stuff, not really. You learn to deal with it. I put things into boxes and stack them in the corner. These days mostly it stays there.

Pretending it didn't happen is no way to deal with it, so I'd write about it - have written about it in Levko, in Street Words and My Life in Pieces.

I don't know if I'd write more about that life, I mean there is only so much you can say. Maybe but there'd have to be a very compelling reason to do it again.

These days I'd rather write about other things, not necessarily happy ones just different I guess.  I love writing comedy, prompts are a lot of fun and make you think. Poetry of course, is my one true love.

I think you should try everything... every genre.  I'd love to write a good mystery or horror.  It's something I think about a lot. I may have even done some planning ... possibly.

    Thanks again for the question.

@Nephylim is in Wales. Since my superpowers do not extend to riding my Harley over the pond, I catch a plane to visit her. I made sure it was not a Boeing 737 Max!

What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?

    • • •

I don't mind answering questions about anything. Any interaction is welcome.

To be honest, I haven't thought about this. Given that I've been non binary all my life (although I haven't actually "named" this until fairly recently) and that my inner dialogue has always been entirely male, I think, to be honest, that writing a female character is more difficult. It's almost that female is the opposite sex if that makes sense.

As I am autistic I find understanding all people, whether male or female, quite difficult and to some extent I rely on television, films, books etc to give me basic understanding of how people interact with each other. Having been a solicitor for many years in the field of family law, I have also had the opportunity to gain more insight into what motivates people on a deeper level. Sometimes it's difficult to separate the real from pure fiction, but I hope I manage it well enough.

I hope that's enough to answer the question. I tend to wander off topic sometimes. If the person who asked the question would like more information or to discuss it directly, I'm more than happy to do so.

Back home in Florida, it’s a skip and a jump to Tampa Bay and @BHopper2. We get the final answer to a set of questions we asked at the end of last year.

What would you like to be?

A successful businessman, and a professional writer. With a great husband that understands me and two adopted teens that we both love. Living in a high-rise condo in the middle of downtown Tampa, and living comfortable lives until we grow old, retire, and pass-away.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

Welcome home, and well done. The party district is this way, it's been a lot livelier since you gays started running it.

That is it for this month, my friends. My inventory of questions and answers is severely depleted. If you have questions for any author on the site, send them to me instead of them. I’ll chase them down, get a response, and share it on AAA for everyone to enjoy. Happy 420!

ps - @Myr who do I send all my travel expense receipts for reimbursement? :P

We have changed the way the editor behaves due to the difficulty in maintaining the code for it.  It used to work that when you hit "return" it would go to a new line.  Now when you hit "return" it goes to a new paragraph.

    Example:
This is a new line from Example

    This is a new paragraph.

If you would like a new line, instead of new paragraph, hit shift-return.

This was part of what caused the double space error you see in some stories.  Now, some posts will seem oddly spaced.  It should fix itself going forward as people get used to the format.

  14. Hello All,
I hope everyone is having a good 2019. I’m alive, so there’s something positive to say about it.
I logged on the other day for a bit. First time in months. I tried before, but just couldn’t. I’m writing this message for those who sent private messages with concern.
I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder as a teenager. Anxiety has been my sidekick through life. Managed by meds, but it can’t always be controlled. Dealing with people, crowds, and many other things set it off. Only amplified by my blindness in certain situations.
Anxiety also has played into confidence. Doubting myself, not feeling worthy. Something which led to isolation. Self destructive behavior and harming myself.
Therapy, and lifestyle have always been what I turn to and how I coped. Along with writing, meditation. However, in dark times... Your routines just aren’t enough anymore.
The last year was rough, but I kept getting back up. A breakup I didn’t see coming, some health issues. It came to a head after taking my mothers ashes home to Connecticut and the family plot. I’ve had a tenuous relationship with my family. Always an embarrassment and never good enough. Needless to say... The trip was too much. I left early. Some things just will always be. Even with 15 years away.
The year started with increased panic attacks. So bad that it felt like a heart attack, or limbs were frozen for long periods. The worst came when I became agoraphobic. I’ve never been afraid to leave the house before. Completely debilitating. Again, the cycle of doubt, being useless... Why am I even here?
I have new meds, and things are slowly getting better. I’m leaving house for short periods. Seeing friends again.
I’ve also been told I’m dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder this year. I would get the “Blues” in Jersey. This is a first for Vegas. It was a colder and darker Fall/Winter. We had snow multiple times. So now I’m doing light therapy daily.
Just didn’t want people to still worry. I’m slowly finding passion in things again. Things involving large crowds are a process. That includes sites with many people to interact with. It can be overwhelming and paralyzing.
Sending you all my best and deepest gratitude.

I must say I struggled with this one. And I am sorry there is only one. However, here it is and it has been hopefully improved somewhat after a talk with AC.  This one is about our last trip to the hospital …

I force you to the hospital

    and you won’t recall it

you fight me like a frightened thing

    because you are hurting

You, my love are so very strong

yet you are made of glass

the hidden flaws begin to show

    widening tiny cracks

As I pace the long corridor

    fearing for your future

wondering if you'll be the same

    or now forever changed

    Once you finally awaken

    groggy from all the meds

I am allowed to sit with you

    and hold onto your hand.

Your life has been so very hard

I want for you some peace

    respite from the haunting specters;

    some quiet blessed sleep

Sometimes I be sitting here and I just think how surreal and strange life really is.  I never imagined I would be sitting in Mobile, AL, with a stranger's liver, trying to find purpose in my life.  I suppose it just goes to show that for all your careful planning and preparation, everything could be terribly doomed before you ever even start.  Hard pill to swallow.  I don't necessarily believe in fate, but I do think that sometimes coincidence is just too coincidental.

This may be a psychological phenomenon materializing because I feel guilty for past choices, or useless, or sad, or any number of things.  I've been killing off people in my social circles left and right lately.  I basically keep to myself, which is probably not healthy at all.  I have panic attacks when I'm faced with people (and btw, before anyone says a damn word, just because you don't see it on my face does not mean I am not anxious, I am a pro at remaining calm, I could fool God himself questioning me about my deepest sins).  I don't even like going to the gas station or a grocery store, it makes me terribly nervous, like someone is going to hit me or reprimand me or chase me out.

What the hell is with that?  I know I'm generally speaking a decent person, I'm not physically unattractive, but I feel LESS than others.  I could meet a stranger on the street and my natural action is to defer to them, when I know for a fact I'm usually the most capable and competent person in any given situation.  I'm not tooting my own horn here, I just know I'm... I can make shit happen.

Which brings me to the weirdness.  The all enveloping, omnipresent weirdness.  I feel like I look at my life and people around me as if through a pane glass window.  I can see it, but it isn't there physically, it isn't there viscerally, I can't feel it, I can't touch it, I can't allow myself to be consumed by the moment.  As a result, I feel sort of abandoned.  I'm just an onlooker.

I am a bird watcher of humans.  A human watcher.  I am emotionally and physically detached.  I can't feel it anymore.  I would kill for one moment of feeling alive again, I just want to breathe deep and smell something I've never smelled, I want to see things I've never seen, I want to look at a boy and fall in love with his face and see the kindness and hope and possibility in his eyes.  I want to see him and see something that I can live for.

Does humanity have a safe word?  Like if we just get in too deep in this shit, can we just say "GRAPEFRUIT!" and then someone comes and gets us?  'Cause I been screaming grapefruit for the past year and no one has come.

Okay, I have ranted enough.  I am sorry for my ramblings.  I wish you all the best, and I hope that your lives are great.  If there has been one thing that I've learned in the last year or two, it has been to allow people their own thoughts and feelings and to never hold it against them.  Take care, my lovelies.

February Song (Josh Groban) - Chandler Sings A Bittersweet Song

Where has that old friend gone

    Lost in a February song

Tell him it won't be long

    'Til he opens his eyes

    Opens his eyes

    Where is that simple day

    Before colors broke into shades

And how did I ever fade

    Into this life

    Into this life

And I never want to let you down

Forgive me if I slip away

And all that I've known is lost and found

    I promise you I

I'll come back to you one day

    Morning is waking up

Sometimes it's more than just enough

And all that you need to love

Is in front of your eyes

It's in front of your eyes

And I never want to let you down

Forgive me if I slip away

Sometimes it's hard to find my ground

'Cause I keep on falling as I try to get away

    From this crazy world

And I never want to let you down

Forgive me if I slip away

And all I've known is lost and found

    I promise you I

I'll come back to you one day

Where has that old friend gone

    Lost in a February song

Tell him it won't be long

    'Til he opens his eyes

    Opens his eyes

I’ll Stand By You (Glee Cover) - Chandler’s Support

Oh, why you look so sad, the tears are in your eyes,

Come on and come to me now, and don't be ashamed to cry,

Let me see you through, 'cause I've seen the dark side too.

When the night falls on you, you don't know what to do,

Nothing you confess could make me love you less,

    I'll stand by you,

I'll stand by you, won't let nobody hurt you,

    I'll stand by you

So if you're mad, get mad, don't hold it all inside,

Come on and talk to me now.

Hey there, what you got to hide?

I get angry too, well, I'm alive like you.

When you're standing at the cross roads,

And don't know which path to choose,

Let me come along, 'cause even if you're wrong

    I'll stand by you,

I'll stand by you, won't let nobody hurt you,

    I'll stand by you.

Baby, even to your darkest hour, and I'll never desert you,

    I'll stand by you.

And when, when the night falls on you baby,

You're feeling all a lone, you're wandering on your own,

    I'll stand by you.

I'll stand by you, won't let nobody hurt you,

I'll stand by you, baby even to your darkest hour,

    And I'll never desert you,

    I'll stand by you,

    I'll stand by you.

I'll stand by you, won't let nobody hurt you,

I'll stand by you, baby even to your darkest hour,

    And I'll never desert you

    I'll stand by you

I Heard You Lost Your Smile (The Broken Beat) - When Brandon Cries

I Heard You Lost Your Smile

    Got lost along the way

This house, it feels so empty

    I won’t let you stray (X)

For the moment set your mind to rest, son

Time to take all the pain away

    This is your moment

    So hold on

    So dance and lose yourself

    Just fall away

Oh, take me by surprise and find your place

    Don’t let it end

    As the hours go

    I swear this watch

Will tell me that you’ll stay

    Stay (X)

    The hour’s just beginning

    Footsteps, I’ll find their place

One breath, we’re cleansing two hearts

With words that keep me safe

    The hope is so surrounding

So make your place in love

The smoke crawls to the ceiling

As fears crash to the floor

For the moment set your mind to rest, son

Time to take all the pain away

    This is your moment

    So hold on

    So dance and lose yourself

    Just fall away

Oh, take me by surprise and find your place

    Don’t let it end

    As the hours go

    I swear this watch

Will tell me that you’ll stay

    So dance and lose yourself

    Just fall away

Oh, take me by surprise and find your place

    So dance and lose yourself

    Just fall away

Oh, take me by surprise and find your place

    Don’t let it end

    As the hours go

    I swear this watch

Will tell me that you’ll stay

    Stay (X)

    So dance and lose yourself

    Just fall away

Oh, take me by surprise and find your place

    Don’t let it end

    As the hours go

    I swear this watch

Will tell me that you’ll stay

Only The Young (Brandon Flowers) - ‘You are young. There’s always a tomorrow.’

    Look back in silence

The cradle of your whole life

    There in the distance

    Losing its greatest pride

Nothing is easy, nothing is sacred, why?

    Where did the bow break?

    It happened before your time

    And there were people there

    Lovely as you'd ever care

Tonight, baby, you can start again

    Laughing in the open air

    Have yourself another dream

Tonight, maybe we can start again

Only the young can break away, break away

Lost when the wind blows, on your own

Only the young can break away, break away

Lost when the wind blows, on your own

    Mother, it's cold here

    Father, thy will be done

Thunder and lightning are crashing down

They got me on the run

    Direct me to the sun

Redemption, keep my covers clean tonight

    Baby, we can start again

Only the young can break away, break away

Lost when the wind blows, on your own

Only the young can break away, break away

Lost when the wind blows, on your own

And the sun will shine again

And the sun will shine again

Are you looking for a sign?

Or are you caught up in the lie?

Only the young can break away, break away

Lost when the wind blows, on your own

Only the young can break away, break away

Lost when the wind blows, on your own

    Only the young can

    Lost when the wind blows

    Only the young can

    Lost when the wind blows

Does Your Mother Know (Gender Bent ABBA Cover from ‘Mama Mia’) - ‘Slow down there Brandon!’

    You're so hot, teasing me

    So you're blue

but I can't take a chance on a kid like you

    That's something I couldn't do

There's that look in your eyes

I can read in your face

that your feelings are driving you wild

Ah, but boy you're only a child

Well I can dance with you honey

    If you think it's funny

Does your mother know that you're out

And I can chat with you baby

    Flirt a little maybe

Does your mother know that you're out

Take it easy (take it easy)

    Better slow down boy

    That's no way to go

    Does your mother know?

Take it easy (take it easy)

    Try to cool it boy

    Take it nice and slow

    Does your mother know?

I can see what you want

    But you seem pretty young

to be searching for that kind of fun

So maybe I'm not the one

Now you're so cute, I like your style

And I know what you mean

when you give me a flash of that smile (smile)

But boy you're only a child

Well I can dance with you honey

    If you think it's funny

Does your mother know that you're out

And I can chat with you baby

    Flirt a little maybe

Does your mother know that you're out

Take it easy (take it easy)

    Better slow down boy

    That's no way to go

    Does your mother know

Take it easy (take it easy)

    Try to cool it boy

    Take it nice and slow

    Does your mother know

Well I can dance with you honey

    If you think it's funny

Does your mother know that you're out

And I can chat with you baby

    Flirt a little maybe

Does your mother know that you're out

Well I can dance with you honey

    If you think it's funny

Does your mother know that you're out

And I can chat with you baby

    Flirt a little maybe

Does your mother know that you're out

No One Is To Blame (Howard Jones) - Ageless Attractions

You can look at the menu, but you just can't eat

You can feel the cushion, but you can't have a seat

You can dip your foot in the pool, but you can't have a swim

You can feel the punishment, but you can't commit the sin

And you want him, and he wants you

    We warned everyone

And you want him and he wants you

No one, no one, no one ever is to blame

You can build a mansion, but you just can't live in it

You're the fastest runner, but you're not allowed to win

Some break the rules, and let you count the cost

The insecurity is the thing that won't get lost

And you want him, and he wants you

    We warned everyone

And you want him and he wants you

No one, no one, no one ever is to blame

You can see the summit, but you can't reach it

It's the last piece of the puzzle, but you just can't make it fit

Doctor says you're cured, but you still feel the pain

Aspirations in the clouds, but your hopes go down the drain

And you want him, and he wants you

    We warned everyone

And you want him and he wants you

No one, no one, no one ever is to blame

No one ever is to blame

No one ever is to blame

Last Chance On The Stairway (Duran Duran) - Seduction At The Party

I don't remember quite how I met you

    Wasn't long ago

I just get a picture of sun in your eyes

    The waves in your hair

Maybe it's something said in a movie or

    You could've said last night

Just took me out on a limb

And I don't really know what I'm doing here

And sometimes I'm caught in a landslide

My beat's so in time, can you look at me

I'm out of reach, I'll talk if it feels right

I've had my last chance on the stairway

Funny it's just like a scene out of Voltaire

    Twisting out of sight

'Cause when all the curtains are pulled back

We'll turn and see the circles we've traced

    Ain't no game (ooh)

    When you're playing with fire

It doesn't seem right that we fight

So the party runs on all night

And sometimes I'm caught in a landslide

My beat's so in time, can you look at me

I'm out of reach I'll talk if it feels right

So nervous to say, tell me can't you see

And if you want I'll fall out forever

I can't say no more, baby dance with me

And please don't say leave it 'til later

I've had my last chance on the stairway

    Wonder why, (wonder why ooh)

What makes me rise so high

Maybe it's something they put in your perfume

Or the look in your eyes

It could be the atmosphere sinking

    Ooh, I don't know what you're thinking

    I don't even know what you're drinking

But it keeps this heaven alive

And sometimes I'm caught in a landslide

My beat's so in time, can you look at me

I'm out of reach I'll talk if it feels right

So nervous to say, tell me can't you see

And if you want I'll fall out forever

I can't say no more, baby dance with me

And please don't say leave till later

I've had my last chance on the stairway

    Last chance on the stairway

    Last chance on the stairway

    Last chance on the stairway

    Last chance on the stairway

    Last chance on the stairway

    Last chance on the stairway

Save A Prayer (Duran Duran) - ‘Save It ‘Til The Morning After’

You saw me standing by the walled corner of a main street

And the lights are flashing on your window sill

All alone ain't much fun so you're looking for the thrill

And you know just what it takes and where to go

Don't say a prayer for me now

Save it ‘til the morning after

No don't say a prayer for me now

Save it ‘til the morning after

Feel the breeze deep on the inside look you down into the well

If you can you'll see the world in all his fire

Take a chance like all dreamers can't find another way

You don't have to dream it all, just live a day

Don't say a prayer for me now

Save it 'til the morning after

No don't say a prayer for me now

Save it 'til the morning after

Save it 'til the morning after

Save it 'til the morning after

Pretty looking road I try to hold the rising floods that fill my skin

Don't ask me why I'll keep my promise melt the ice

And you wanted to dance so I asked you to dance

But fear is in your soul

Some people call it a one night stand but we can call it paradise

Don't say a prayer for me now

Save it til the morning after

No don't say a prayer for me now

Save it 'til the morning after

Save it 'til the morning after

Save it 'til the morning after

Save it 'til the morning after

Save it 'til the morning after (doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo)

Save a prayer 'til the morning after

Save a prayer 'til the morning after

Save a prayer 'til the morning after

Save a prayer 'til the morning after

Save a prayer 'til the morning after

Save a prayer 'til the morning after

Don’t Talk To Me About Love! (Altered Images) - Chandler Takes Greg To Task

    They exchanged a look

An hour later his voice shook

When his whispering died, he cried

Never wants to recover, he cried

Don't talk to me about love

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

Don't talk to me about love

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

    Since that gaze

    Roaring by went his days

When his whispering died, he cried

Never wants to recover, he cried

Don't talk to me about love

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

Don't talk to me about love

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

Don't talk to me about love

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

Don't talk, don't talk to me

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

Don't talk to me about love

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

Don't talk to me about love

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

It couldn't be that good, although they said it would

    Just couldn't be that good

Don't talk to me about love

    (yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter)

    Be that good

It couldn't be that good, although they said it would

    Just couldn't be that good

    Be be be that good

Fix You (Anthem Lights Covers Coldplay) - Comforting Brandon

    Reprise from ‘Brandon Smiling’

Somewhere Over The Rainbow / Wonderful World (Israel Kamakawiwo’ole) - Chandler’s Telephone Lullaby

    Ooh, ooh, ooh

    Ooh, ooh

    Somewhere over the rainbow

    Way up high

And the dreams that you dream of

    Once in a lullaby

    Somewhere over the rainbow

    Bluebirds fly

And the dreams that you dream of

    Dreams really do come true

Someday, I wish upon a star

Wake up where the clouds are far behind me

Where trouble melts like lemon drops

    High above the chimney top

    That's where you'll find me

    Somewhere over the rainbow

    Bluebirds fly

And the dreams that you dare to

Oh why, oh why can't I?

Well, I see trees of green and red roses too

I'll watch them bloom for me and you

    And I think to myself

    What a wonderful world

Well, I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white

    And the brightness of day

    I like the dark

And I think to myself what a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky

And also on the faces of people passing by

I see friends shaking hands saying

    How do you do?

    They're really saying I, I love you

I hear babies cry and I watch them grow

They'll learn much more then we'll know

And I think to myself what a wonderful world

    World

Someday I wish upon a star

Wake up where the clouds are far behind me

Where trouble melts like lemon drops

    High above the chimney top

    That's where you'll find me

    Oh, somewhere over the rainbow

    Way up high

And the dreams that you dare to

    Why oh, why can't I?

    Ooh, ooh

    Ooh, ooh

You Are Loved (Don’t Give Up) (Josh Groban) - Chandler Sings A Love Song

    Don't give up

It's just the weight of the world

    When your heart's heavy

I, I, will lift it for you

    Don't give up

Because you want to be heard

    If silence keeps you

I, I, will break it for you

    Everybody wants to be understood

    Well I can hear you

    Everybody wants to be loved

    Don't give up

    Because you, are loved

    Don't give up

It's just the hurt that you hide

    When you're lost inside

I, I'll be there to find you

    Don't give up

Because you want to burn bright

    If darkness blinds you

I, I will shine to guide you

    Everybody wants to be understood

    Well I can hear you

    Everybody wants to be loved

    Don't give up

    Because you, are loved

    You are loved

    Don't give up

It's just the weight of the world

    Don't give up

    Everyone needs to be loved

    You are loved

Ordinary World (Red Covers Duran Duran) - Helping Brandon Out The Other Side

    Reprise from ‘Brandon Smiling’

Notbroken (The Goo Goo Dolls) - Chandler’s Iris

    All I waited for,

Was a chance to make you understand

And tell you these forgotten truths

    You never thought were real

And if the world should turn it's back,

You know that I'm still here

Time won't ever steal my soul

We're not broken, so please come home

Morning comes, and life moves on

And when it changed, you didn't know where you belong

And I'll still catch you when you fall through a past that steals your sleep

And scrawl these words upon your wall, remind you to believe

Time won't ever steal my soul

We're not broken, so please come home

If the world has worn you down

I'll be waiting, so please come home

I won't let them break you down

And I won't hear the empty sounds,

I'm hopelessly pretending that I know the answer

Angels light the neon fires that burn so cold through your desires

And all you are is all I need to know

    When the world is insane,

You get used to the pain

And you don't even know what you feel

    And I was like you,

    All alone and confused

But you know it's not forever

Time won't ever steal my soul

We're not broken, so please come home

If the world has worn you down

I'll be waiting, so please come home

Talk - Alternative Version (Coldplay) - Brandon Talks To Chandler About Getting Caught

    [Verse 1]

    Under the great North star

Try to work out where you are

In the silence of the sea

    I don't know where I'll be

    [Verse 2]

In the future, in the past

    Going nowhere, much too fast

When I go there, go with me

When I go there, go with me

    [Chorus 1]

Cause I don't know where I'm going and I wanna talk

I feel like I'm going where I've been before

    And I wanna talk

    [Verse 3]

    Take a picture of

Something that you're not sure of

Bring it back to show to me

    But I don't know what I see

    [Verse 4]

In the future, find a home

    Getting nowhere on your own
Got to find your missing piece

    [Chorus 2]

Cause you don't know where you're going and you wanna talk

You feel like you're going where you've been before

Nothing's really making any sense at all

You tell anyone who'll listen but you feel ignored

    [Hook]

    Let's talk

    Let's talk

    Do you wanna talk?

    [Verse 5]

I'm up in the part of the throne

I'm trying to sing a song

    In a language I don't speak

    [Verse 6]

    I tried but I can't get through

I'm trying to get to you

    But you're difficult to reach

    Won't you talk to me?

    [Chorus 3]

So you don't know were you're going and you wanna talk

You feel like you're going where you've been before

    Let's talk

    Let's talk

Listen To Your Heart (Glee) - Chandler Shows The Way To Do This ‘Gay’ Thing

I know there's something in the wake of your smile

I get a notion from the look in your eyes, yea

You've built a love but that love falls apart

Your little piece of heaven turns too dark

Listen to your heart when he's calling for you

Listen to your heart there's nothing else you can do

    I don't know where you're going and I don't know why,

But listen to your heart before you tell him goodbye

Sometimes you wonder if this fight is worthwhile

The precious moments are all lost in the tide, yea

They're swept away and nothing is what is seems,

The feeling of belonging to your dreams

Listen to your heart when he's calling for you

Listen to your heart there's nothing else you can do

    I don't know where you're going and I don't know why,

But listen to your heart before you tell him goodbye

And there are voices that want to be heard

So much to mention but you can't find the words

The sense of magic, the beauty that's been

When love was wilder than the wind

Listen to your heart when he's calling for you

Listen to your heart there's nothing else you can do

    I don't know where you're going and I don't know why,

But listen to your heart before you tell him goodbye

Listen to your heart when he's calling for you

Listen to your heart there's nothing else you can do

    I don't know where you're going and I don't know why,

But listen to your heart before you tell him goodbye

That’s What I’m Here For (Jason Castro) - ‘Thanks’

    Goodbye, Los Angeles

    You said with some regret

I'll do my best to find a way

    To help you to forget

I'm glad you made your way

Back here, to find a better day

    Seems like you're getting

    A little closer to okay

    And if you need someone

    Just to be around

    Help put the pieces back

    That you finally found

    That's what I'm here for

    That's what I'm here for

When you need a little less

Or you want a little more

    That's what I'm here for

    That's what I'm here for

    I heard you saying that

    You're finally feeling free

    Blowing kisses

    To the distant memories

    Lately I've caught you

    Smiling a little more

    You're beautiful

    And I'm all yours

    And if you need someone

    Just to be around

    Help put the pieces back

    That you finally found

    That's what I'm here for

    That's what I'm here for

When you need a little less

Or you want a little more

    That's what I'm here for

    That's what I'm here for

That's why I can hold you just as long as you'll stay

I can tell you what no one would ever say

That it's alright to admit that you were wrong

Before you know it, all the scars will be gone

    That's what I'm here for

    That's what I'm here for

When you need a little less

Or you want a little more

When you need someone to find you

When you're hiding from it all

    That's what I'm here for

    That's what I'm here for

    Just what you wanna be

Things Can Only Get Better (Howard Jones) - ‘Yes, things always can . . .’

We're not scared to lose it all security throw through the wall

Future dreams we have to realize

A thousand skeptic hands won't keep us from the things we plan

Unless we're clinging to the things we prize

And do you feel scared, I do

But I won't stop and falter

And if we threw it all away

    Things can only get better

Wow wow wow oh, wow wow wow oh oh oh oh

Treating today as though it was the last, the final show

Get to sixty and feel no regret

It may take a little time a lonely path, an uphill climb

Success or failure will not alter it

And do you feel scared, I do

But I won't stop and falter

And if we threw it all away

    Things can only get better

Wow wow wow oh, wow wow wow oh oh oh oh

And do you feel scared, I do

But I won't stop and falter

And if we threw it all away

    Things can only get better

Stay On These Roads (A-ha) - ‘ . . . As long as you stay the course.’

    The cold has a voice

    It talks to me

    Stillborn by choice

And it has no need to hold

    Old man feels the cold

Oh baby, don't 'cause I've been told

    Stay on these roads

    We shall meet I know

    Stay on these roads

We shall meet I know, I know

    Where joy should reign

    These skies restrain

    Shadow your love

    The voice trails off again

Old, old man feels the cold

Oh baby, don't 'cause I've been told

    Stay on these roads

    We shall meet, I know

    Stay on my love

You feel so weak, be strong

    Stay on, stay on

    We shall meet, I know

    I know

I know, my love, I know

    Feel the cold

    Winter's calling at my home

    Stay on these roads

    We shall meet, I know

    Stay on my love

    We'll meet, I know

    So stay on

    I know

    Stay my love, stay on

    We'll meet, I know, I know

    Love, I know

  18. There are about a million ways to say those three words “I Love You.”

                                            Have you eaten?

                                            Sleep well.

                                            Drive safely.

                                            Grab a coat.

These are some of the ways it’s said in my house.  There are others, not as obvious, but we all know them when we hear them.

And it’s not just that way with lovers and spouses, we do it with friends and family too.

                                            How are you? Really?

Let me know when you get home.

                                            Let me buy you lunch.

                                            Because you’re family

i’m glad you are in my village.

                                            i’m sorry.

It’s been rocky for my family the last 3 weeks.  i’ve heard, or said, everything i just listed.

i can’t begin to tell you how important it is to say those things. They are life changing, life affirming phrases.  They can restore faith, hope, and bolster love.

i know that there are other ways to show love.  We see those around us too. A simple hug, fixing a favorite meal, offering a ride to where you need to be, talking with someone in a PM, or by email. i’ve been on the receiving end of many of those during this rough patch as well.  The simple act of reaching out was a show of caring, and it mattered.

How do you show love; how do you say “I love you” without saying it?  No matter how you do it, don’t forget to show and tell people you love them.

    Night Blooms

    Haibun

Early the other morning, I couldn’t sleep anymore from all the memory-filled dreams I was having, so I took the dog outside. Standing in the garden, all the world peaceful and sweet, I saw a truly Mid-western moon – the type I grew up. Placid and nearly full, and yet hidden within the glory of its own eerie light. Moons like this remind me I have no home anymore, not with my parents now gone from the world.

    5 AM, the moon

    playing night-bloomer with clouds

    smells Angel Trumpets.

  20. Going through chemo I haven't minded too much the physical changes happening. Well showering when my hair was falling out was a nightmare - very fine hairs that I could feel but not get off.

How others are reacting is getting to me. At work I've had to report two cancer survivors to administration. Both tried to offer me support, before I had announced my cancer. One chose to discuss it in the public bathroom where students were present. The other thought it was a great idea to tell me her horrible experience with the IV port on the day I was getting the port, then the day before my first infusion with it.

There are also all the people wanting to pat me somewhere. I understand the need to touch. But chemo doesn't just kill cancer and hair follicles. It also kills bone marrow cells, the ones making blood cells. So chemo patients get sick and bruise easily.

Now I have complete strangers wanting to give me blessed or annointed religious objects, while I'm on my cell phone.

  21. Starring Jason Momoa as Arthur/Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as King Orm/Ocean Master, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Manta. It was directed by the wonderfully talented James Wan, the creator of the Saw Franchise.

Aquaman takes place shortly after the events of Justice League. This bit of information seemed to be slipped in right away to make sure we all know this is part of the DCEU. But just as Wonder Woman carved her own path away from the sadness that was Man Of Steel, Batman V Superman, and Justice League with a story that focused on plot supported by CGI, Aquaman at its core, is a character driven film that made me care about the characters and their journey.

Aquaman lives somewhere between the dark vision of Zack Snyder and the playfulness of Patty Jenkins, taking elements from both while carving a visually stunning film. I would venture a guess that the script was heavily rewritten multiple times attempting to course correct after the tepid reception of the Znyderverse and the sheer fun factor of Wonder Woman. The downside to what I am assuming is heavy rewrites, leaves us with a film that doesn’t seem to know what its suppose to be sometimes from moment to moment.

Is it a light-hearted underwater tale with horrible dad jokes or a morality tale of sons paying for the sins of their fathers? As I type this, I still can’t tell you what this movie is about.

In one of the darker moments of the film, Arthur takes out a bunch of pirates as they try to steal a submarine. While this sequence is visually stunning and really showcases the raw power Arthur can command, Arthur allows the father of one of the pirates to drown, thus creating one of the major villains in Aquaman’s cannon.

This act really shocked me, as it was hard for me to believe that considering Arthur’s own mother was killed when he was young, that he could dismiss the pleas of a son to save his drowning father so flippantly.

This sequence reminded me how I felt while watching Black Panther last year. Like Killmonger, Manta has a great back-story and a reason for revenge that makes his story arc believable and compelling.

And in almost the next scene, Arthur and his father are in a bar drinking beer for breakfast when several scary biker looking guys approach them. This scene is played for suspense at first, when one of the guys barks out, ‘are you him’. Arthur turns around and for a moment, you think it’s about to go down. Then the scary biker looking guy exclaims out like an excited child that he wants a picture of Aquaman. This is like five minutes after Arthur kills numerous pirates on the submarine. And to make it a bit worse, there is a collage of Arthur drinking beer and taking photos with the scary bikers.

The transitions between the dark and light moments happens so fast it was rather jarring at times. Yet Amber Heard was delightful as Mera, and has one of the coolest powers in the movie. Mera is far from being a damsel in distress. Not only does she stand toe to toe with Aquaman, but manages to save him numerous times and is a complete badass in her own right. Amber’s performance is well-rounded as I’ve seen in a long time. Plus, she’s a great strong female character for young teens.

Orm makes a great villain and is almost underplayed by the talented Patrick Wilson. Though his motivation flips between his hatred towards Arthur whom he blames for the death of his mother and his hatred for the surface dwellers that has polluted the worlds oceans. I did find it a bit odd that his hatred for Arthur seemed misplaced as it would make more sense to hate his father who ordered the death of his mother.

Take away the over the head message of the dangers of pollution, the jumps between light-hearted dad jokes, and brooding craziness, the core of the film is entertaining and I would recommend you watch it as the CGI is breathtaking.

I was out with Michael last week, in a local grocery store and while He was looking at poppadoms ... i wandered off.

Wow, i found pickled garlic. Pickled garlic if you've never had it, is a wonderful thing. Delicious with a steak, a good sandwich or served with antipasto or just cold cuts.

But i digress, this store, which has ideas above its station, had small jars of pickled garlic on SALE for $7.99. I mean if there were two full heads of garlic in there i'd be surprised. The regular price is $10.99.

Mmmm, i wanted some.  But this boy is not paying that price.

Fresh pickles are a glorious food. They are still recognizable as what they were. Cucumber still has it's clean flavour, onions are still aromatic and garlic is garlic just mellower.  I often quickly pickle some red onion to have with burgers or on curry. You only need a few hours, the produce of course, and a few basic ingredients.  Things like mustard seed, fennel seed, whole black peppercorns, red pepper flakes, red or white vinegar and some sugar.

All those are nice but i often don't have them, well except the peppercorns (always grind your own pepper!!).  So i make the pickling liquid from what i have.. sometimes water, vinegar, pepper and sugar. If i have whole seed mustard i add a bit, or even just some ballpark or Dijon... just a teaspoon or so.

Pack your sliced onion, or cucumbers or nice garlic (buy the freshest you can find) peeled of course into a heat proof jar. Pour the pickling liquid over the top. Put on the lid and stick it in the fridge.  In a few hours... heaven.  There is a basic recipe below but add a bay leaf and a couple of peppercorns if that is all you have in...

I'd recommend dropping the garlic cloves into a bit of boiling water and cooking for 3 minutes.  Then pack in a heatproof jar. Then add the following to small saucepan and boil until  the sugar disolves. Then pour over your garlic:

    ·        ⅔ cup water

    ·        ⅓ cup white or red vinegar

    ·        ¼ cup sugar

    ·        1¼ teaspoons kosher salt

    ·        ½ teaspoon whole black peppercorns

    ·        ½ teaspoon mustard seeds

    ·        ½ teaspoon fennel seeds

    ·        ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper

Refrigerate the jar(s) for up to a month.

But don't keep it... eat it!!   The above can be used for any pickled vegetable. These need to be in the fridge and eaten. They will not last like your jar of Vlasics !!

Enjoy ... Make your own food!

(Don’t Fear) The Reaper (HIM) - We Could Become Like They Are

    All our times have come

    Here, but now they're gone

The seasons don't fear the Reaper

Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain

And we can be like they are

Come on, baby... Don't fear the Reaper

Baby, take my hand... Don't fear the Reaper

We'll be able to fly... Don't fear the Reaper

    Baby, I'm your man...

    Valentine is done

    Here, but now they're gone

    Romeo and Juliet

    Are together in eternity...

    Romeo and Juliet

40, 000 men and women every day...

    Like Romeo and Juliet

40, 000 men and women every day...

    Redefine happiness

Another 40, 000 coming every day...

We can be like they are

Come on, baby... Don't fear the Reaper

Baby, take my hand... Don't fear the Reaper

We'll be able to fly... Don't fear the Reaper

    Baby, I'm your man...

    Love of two is one

    Here, but now they're gone

    Came last night of sadness

It was clear we couldn't go on

The door was opened and the wind appeared

The candles blew and then disappeared

The curtains flew and then he appeared

    Saying, "Don't be afraid"

Come on, baby... And we had no fear

And we ran to him... Then we started to fly

We looked backward and said goodbye

We had become like they are

    We had taken his hand

We had become like they are

Come on, baby... Don't fear the Reaper

Purgatory (Digital Daggers) - The Realities Of The Shelter

The Dead Are Dumb (Nothing) -  Not so much . . .

    Always try to keep up

    Always fall behind

    Belly pains

    And headaches

    Inside you

    Isn’t it quite the same

And isn’t it such a shame

    Too heavy for the lightness

    But weightless in the rain

    All our words are wasted

    Never fails to fail me

    Never say never

    Loathing phase

    Self-inflicted pain

    I’d never

    Oh, I’d never

Teenagers (My Chemical Romance) - When in doubt, blame the kids . . .

They're gonna clean up your looks

With all the lies in the books

To make a citizen out of you

Because they sleep with a gun

And keep an eye on you, son

So they can watch all the things you do

    Because the drugs never work

They're gonna give you a smirk

'Cause they got methods of keepin' you clean

They gonna rip up your heads

    Your aspirations to shreds

Another cog in the murder machine

    They said all

    Teenagers scare

The living shit out of me

    They could care less

    As long as someone'll bleed

    So darken your clothes

    Or strike a violent pose

    Maybe they'll leave you alone

    But not me

The boys and girls in the clique

The awful names that they stick

You're never gonna fit in much, kid

But if you're troubled and hurt

What you got under your shirt

Will make them pay for the things that they did

    They said all

    Teenagers scare

The living shit out of me

    They could care less

    As long as someone'll bleed

    So darken your clothes

    Or strike a violent pose

    Maybe they'll leave you alone

    But not me

    Oh yeah

    They said all

    Teenagers scare

The living shit out of me

    They could care less

    As long as someone'll bleed

    So darken your clothes

    Or strike a violent pose

    Maybe they'll leave you alone

    But not me

    All together now

    Teenagers scare

The living shit out of me

    They could care less

    As long as someone'll bleed

    So darken your clothes

    Or strike a violent pose

    Maybe they'll leave you alone

    But not me

    Teenagers scare

The living shit out of me

    They could care less

    As long as someone'll bleed

    So darken your clothes

    Or strike a violent pose

    Maybe they'll leave you alone

Wicked Game (HIM) - Finding Love In The Death

The world was on fire, no-one could save me but you

It's strange what desire will make foolish people do

I'd never dreamed that I'd need somebody like you

And I'd never dreamed that I'd need somebody like you

No I don't want to fall in love

This world is always gonna brake your heart

No I don't want to fall in love

This world is always gonna brake your heart,

    with you

What a wicked game to play

To make me feel this way

What a wicked thing to do

To let me dream of you

What a wicked thing to say

    You never felt this way

What a wicked thing you do

To make me dream of you

No I don't want to fall in love

This world is always gonna brake your heart

No I don't want to fall in love

This world is always gonna brake your heart,

    with you

The world was on fire, no-one could save me but you

It's strange what desire will make foolish people do

No and I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you

I'll never dream that I lose somebody like you, no

Now I want to fall in love

This world is always gonna brake your heart

Now I want to fall in lust

This world is always gonna brake your heart,

    with you

    Nobody loves no-one

The Crow (Hurts) - The Plague Theme

    Golden days

    Are so far away

    There’s a black rain

    Up above

    Out on the wind

    You hear her call

    She’s under your skin

    And you drift away

    She spreads her wings

    When she’s gonna fly

    The Crow…

    If you make her sing

    When she’s coming

    She will let you know

    Her frozen hand

    Takes your breath away

    As she leads your soul

    Through the dark

    You know that she came

    To break your heart

    But on then she moves

    You fall in love again

    She spreads her wings

    When she’s gonna fly…

    The Crow

    If you make her sing

    When she’s coming

    She will let you know

    She spreads her wings

And they black out the sun

    You won’t hear her sing

    And she’ll leave

    When the damage is done

    Cold heart

    Warm gun

    A dying sun

    Bright eyes

    Black soul

    She’ll never let you go

    And she spreads her winds

    When she’s gonna fly…

    The Crow

    If you make her sing

    When she’s coming

    She will let you know

    She spreads her wings

And they black out the sun

    You won’t hear her sing

    And she’ll leave

    When the damage is done

Somebody To Die For (Hurts) - The Truth of Boys and Heroes

I could drag you from the ocean

I could pull you from the fire

And when you're standing in the shadow,

I could open up the sky

And I could give you my devotion, until the end of time

And you will never be forgotten,

    With me by your side

And I don't need this life

    I just need . . .

    Oh oh oh

I've got nothing left to live for

Got no reason yet to die

But when I'm standing in the gallows

I'll be staring at the sky

Because no matter where they take me

    In death I will survive

And I will never be forgotten

    With you by my side

Cause I don't need this life

    I just need

    Somebody to die for

    Somebody to cry for

    When I'm lonely

When I'm staring in the fire

I will look him in the eye

And I will let the devil know that

I was brave enough to die

And there's no hell that he can show me

    Deeper than my pride

Cause I will never be forgotten

    Forever I'll fight

And I don't need this life

    I just need

    Somebody to die for

    Somebody to cry for

    When I'm lonely

And I don't need this life

    I just need

    Somebody to die for

    Somebody to cry for

    When I'm lonely

Don't go gentle into that good night

Rage on against the dying light

Apocalypse (Cigarettes After Sex) - Life Found Where Lips Touch

You leapt from crumbling bridges watching cityscapes turn to dust

Filming helicopters crashing in the ocean from way above

Got the music in you baby,

    Tell me why

Got the music in you baby,

    Tell me why

You’ve been locked in here forever & you just can’t say goodbye

Kisses on the foreheads of the lovers wrapped in your arms

You’ve been hiding them in hollowed out pianos left in the dark…

    Your lips,

    My lips,

    Apocalypse

Go & sneak us through the rivers,

Flood is rising up on your knees

    Oh please…

    Come out & haunt me

    I know you want me

    Come out & haunt me

Sharing all your secrets with each other since you were kids

Sleeping soundly with the locket that she gave you clutched in your fist…

    When you’re all alone

    I will reach for you

    When you’re feeling low

    I will be there too

Your Pain Is Mine Now (Title Fight) - Pain Shared Is Love Found

    Swept in like a dream

    Drew the sting

    Then I died

    White light trembling

    Shadows bring

    Tears to eyes

    Twisted in a summer mist

    Burned alive a while

    Wrestled with your loneliness

    Echoed from a wire

    Gatling gun

    Your pain is mine now

    See-through smoke

    Clouds warping around

    I know you're scared

    Don't cry your eyes out

    Gatling gun

    Under your spell now

    Swirling through a tunnel view

    Tangled in the dark

Flirting with a kiss of death

    A canopy of stars

    You'll sleep beneath them

    I'm in your room

    I am your nightmare

    I am the moon

    Cry

    Die

    Boo hoo

    Boo hoo

    Gatling gun

    Your pain is mine now

    See-through smoke

    Clouds warping around

    I know you're scared

    Don't cry your eyes out

    Gatling gun

    Under your spell now

    Gatling gun

    Your pain is mine now

    See-through smoke

    Clouds warping around

    I know you're scared

    Don't cry your eyes out

    Gatling gun

    Under your spell now

Soma Dreams (Rhian Sheehan) - Making Out In A Dark Place

    Light and Sensual Instrumental

No Longer Making Time (Slowdive) - Time Grows Short

    Come anyway

Say you're clean, you like it that way

    You got a new boy

He keeps it light, you like it that way

    Who cares anyway

Oh lord I remember the days

    And all those nights

When you wanted so much more

    Honey, don't wait too long

    We're no longer making time

    Forever we'll be

    Together, we breathe

    No longer for too run

    Come anyway

    Come on down in your

    Green eyed way

    Comes and it goes

You come around and I don't know why

    Just lovers and life

Common ground, Yeah there's no surprise

    Just holding your arms

Holding on till the fear, It goes

    Honey, don't wait too long

    We're no longer making time

    Forever we'll be

    Together, we breathe

    No longer for too run

    Who cares anyway

Oh Lord, I remember those days

    And all those nights

Holding on till the fear, it goes

Heroes (Depeche Mode Bowie Cover) - A Man Going To The Wall

    I, I will be king

And you, you will be queen

Though nothing will drive them away

We can beat them, just for one day

We can be Heroes, just for one day

And you, you can be mean

And I, I'll drink all the time

'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact

Yes we're lovers, and that is that

Though nothing, will keep us together

We could steal time, just for one day

We can be Heroes, forever and ever

    What d'you say?

I, I wish you could swim

Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim

Though nothing, nothing will keep us together

We can beat them, forever and ever

Oh we can be Heroes, just for one day

    I, I will be king

And you, you will be queen

Though nothing will drive them away

We can be Heroes, just for one day

We can be us, just for one day

    I, I can remember (I remember)

Standing, by the wall (by the wall)

And the guns, shot above our heads (over our heads)

And we kissed, as though nothing could fall (nothing could fall)

And the shame, was on the other side

Oh we can beat them, forever and ever

Then we could be Heroes, just for one day

    We can be Heroes

    We can be Heroes

    We can be Heroes

    Just for one day

    We can be Heroes

We're nothing, and nothing will help us

Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay

But we could be safer, just for one day

Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh-ohh, just for one day

Bravado (Rush) - Against All Odds, Odds Against All

    If we burn our wings

Flying too close to the sun

    If the moment of glory

    Is over before it's begun

If the dream is won --

    Though everything is lost

    We will pay the price,

But we will not count the cost

    When the dust has cleared

    And victory denied

    A summit too lofty

    River a little too wide

    If we keep our pride

    Though paradise is lost

    We will pay the price,

But we will not count the cost

    And if the music stops

There's only the sound of the rain

    All the hope and glory,

    All the sacrifice in vain

    And if love remains

    Though everything is lost

    We will pay the price,

But we will not count the cost

Whispers (Vancouver Sleep Clinic) - When Walker Speaks

    You lost your purpose quietly

    In the night

    In your eyes

    No paving to your heartstrings

    On your own

    Left alone

    A silent rush of thunder

A voice that pulls you under

A whisper that stole you away

    it all

We never fought to lose it

We didn't build to burn this

You don't have to carry the weight of your sin

We didn't rise to cave in

    We never left for safety

I will not just age to grow weary and bleed

    These burdens brought you crashing

    Under doubt

    Through the ground

They sealed your lips with silence

    No resistance

    Not a sound

It's worth too much to give in

You gave it all for this

Ruin (So Below) - Nowhere Is Safe

    Know enough to keep above

Watch you fall back down as we start to run

I feel it too as it calls to you

Hit the dark, I will come through

You think you're safe right behind the door

You think the worst of it happened before

You're all alone on the highest floor

    What are you waiting for?

    This is how it feels

    No use in these tears

    Shadows interfere

    Reach into the clear

(I take the blame but you never know)

    Even out this far

    Who knows where we are

    Never where you start

We're in the red, in empty air

Acting up, don't take me there

If you only knew what I've got to lose

It's enough that I'm losing you

You think you're safe right behind the door

You think the worst of it happened before

You're all alone on the highest floor

    What are you waiting for?

    This is how it feels

    No use in these tears

    Shadows interfere

    Reach into the clear

(I take the blame but you never know)

    Even out this far

    Who knows where we are

    Never where you start

    And now

Even though you drag me down

I will keep you all around

    And now

Even though you drag me down

I will keep you all around

Departure (Hundredth) - Making An Escape

    Sad truth

    The judges rule

On who you used to be

    Not what's new

    Old spark

    The flame burns out

    We're not the same

    The smoke pushes out

Was it all just a dream

    Inside a wide-eyed teen?

    New order

    Lay it all down

    The old is gone

    Put it in the ground

    New order

    Lay it all down

    The old is gone

    Put it in the ground

    Departure

    Departure

    Departure

    Departure

    Departure

    Departure

    Departure

Leave Me Behind (No Sun) - Sacrifices Along The Way

Cleanse me in your fire let me feel the burn of your light before i fade away Indefinite and cold as always leave me behind i swear i don’t mind i’ll find my Disguise under the foliage a mask of dirt and leaves for me to hide behind i’ll Disappear hiding in plain sight the earth will swallow me the soil will surround       My skin i won’t be here anymore i won’t be anywhere

Survive (Chelsea Wolfe) - Finding The Will To Survive

you said you won't break my heart

    unless you do

you said you won't fall apart

    until the end

did we travel all this way

    just to survive

    did you stay another day?

    we could survive

all the sinners and the saints

    move in the same direction

    they walk in place

    until the end

    ramble on this barren place

    we call our home

    dreams of endless landscapes

    morphing, in love

Disintegration (Chromatics) - Looking For A World That Is Gone

The Horror, The Horror, The Horror

The Dead Next Door (Billy Idol) - ‘You and me and the Dead next door’

    Watch the sky

    For a reason why

    I'm safe here

    Sunday it was part

    Monday it was none

    Monday was none

    For the dead next door

One pair of silent terror reins

And we're the dead next door

The heat of the day fades away

    Fades into the night

    The heat of the day

    Offering a wedding

    Suffering away

    For the dead next door

    You see

    One error, silent terror

And we're the dead next door

    In animal land

    And dark is in command

    One thing you should know

    Don't hear that knocking

Don't eat out of their hand

    Don't stumble, die

    You say

    Don't stumble, cry

    They see you and me

    You and me

    With the dead next door

    You and me

    With the dead next door

    You and me

    With the dead next door

  24. Now, I generally highly avoid talk of politics, racism, or religion...

    HOWEVER...

Let's be real here. China and India have MORE than 1 billion people each in their respective countries, dwarfing just about all other countries.

English is third,  Spanish is second in languages spoken worldwide, and Chinese is FIRST.

In the US, Caucasians are becoming the minority. They are being vastly outnumbered by those of Hispanic and African lineage.

WHY is that such a scary thing when most of the children are mixed anyway? When we ALL are technically mixed down the line, anyway???

If we weren't, we would all have quite the medical and mental conditions, wouldn't we? I mean, inbreeding's always been a great risk.

I just feel so disheartened having worked in this kind of environment for so long.

God doesn't see race, politics, or wealth.

I grow weary of hypocrites that preach unity when they're the ones in perpetual fear.

Yes, the church provides great help to the community.

They reach out to the poor, they feed the hungry.

But, those in charge are also great cowards.

I will do my best for my community for this, my final year here.

After that, I seriously have to consider if my Faith and core beliefs are worth putting on a facade of support.

...and find out just how jaded I am at this point.
