How does one cover a year and a half?

So, I haven't written a blog since November 2008. I feel like I have been slacking somewhat.   In truth, I have been very very busy in life. Work has been a trip. I enjoy what I'm doing for the most part and we are doing well.   Other than work, I've been very busy with Gay Authors, of course. I've been coordinating the various Premium Content authors to make sure we have a steady flow of stories for Subscribers. I've been keeping the site up to date, including the new Live Chat software.

What about the rude authors?

One of the pet peeves of most online writers is the lack of feedback. Tons more people read than ever say anything back. That is why, as an author, I try to make sure that sure that I at least drop a little note back to someone on the latest chapter I read. I'm much less diligent with ongoing fanfiction stories though. Mostly because that is on FanFiction.net and keeping logged in on that site is too much of a hassle.   Any way, I bumped into some really high quality stories on Nifty. Unf

Eragon by Christopher Paolini

I really enjoyed Eragon when I read it years ago.  I liked the sequel as well and then I was so tied up I never finished reading the series.  I have them in my giant pile... but I still haven't gotten back to them.  I really need to, since I did enjoy the book so much.   Has anyone else read this?  What do you think?

Saying the Last Good Bye to Dad

Last Saturday morning, about ten minutes after arriving at my destination on campus my mother called my cell phone. I could barely make out what she was saying. The Last Herald-Mage Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey

The first book in this trilogy, Magic's Pawn, is one of the most powerful books I have ever read.  I've reread it a few times over the years and it makes me cry every single time I read it.  It's really emotionally moving.  Mercedes Lackey has stated that her formula is simple:  Make the reader love the character and then drop a mountain on the character.  The first novel is deeply touching and heart-wrenching.  The full trilogy is powerful as well.  The second and third novels are not as powerf

A Little Experiment

We have been thinking of several different ways to reduce the complicated nature of the forums. Right now, we have a forum for every Hosted and Promising Author. That means there are a TON of forums. This makes the site a little overwhelming for new users.   We thought about and hit upon the idea of using the blogs for handling Author interaction. As part of this, of course, we'd need a couple of people in addition to the author that would post to the blog. That's easily handled here.

Percy Jackson the Olympians

Rick Riordan has become a juggernaut through Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse Mythologies with his interlocking series of books.  They all started with Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.  (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief being the first book) I've read this 5 book series and I have the other 15 or so books in the interlocking series, but I haven't read them yet.  The man is just cranking these things out. Ten's Unit - They Really Work

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

I Am Number Four is an interesting book.  Human looking aliens are amongst us and they are being hunted by some really bad aliens.  It's quite the romp and an enjoyable book.  It's the first in a whole series that has a follow up in the pipeline as well.  I enjoyed it and I really need to spend some time to finish reading the whole series.  Check it out!

Packing, Moving, Programming, Oh my!

Well... I'm moving back to the city I want to be in. I start my new job on 7/7.   I am moving this week. As such, I have been spending a LOT of time packing and going through my junk. Thoughts on Upgrade Bugs

I thought I would take the opportunity to explain some of these glitches and bugs we're all enjoying. First and foremost, the forum software version 4.0.0 was a complete rewrite from the ground up that converting our existing data to work in the version.  This has happened before, because we started on version 1.1 back in 2003.  That's years before Facebook, for you Millennial.  This is a lot of baggage from issues over the years and things glitch.  Indeed, we experienced a bunch of issues

Headset

There are many occasions where I find myself wanting a headset.  Almost always while I'm working on something.  This goes directly against the fact that I hate things on my head, especially things that touch my ears.  So I went trolling over at Best Buy to see if I could find something that felt good on my head while meeting the needs of a good sounding headset.  This thing does the job!  It has microfiber mesh around memory foam for the padding.  They sound great and the mic works as it should

New Bed for the New Year

Oh.. a Real Post

Ugh. I've got a little problem lately that I can't seem to get under control. I can't sit still. Christmas Shopping and Star Dust

Well, it is the end of another day and time for a little stream of conciousness. I have officially completed my Christmas shopping. I hate Christmas shopping for my family because, frankly, if someone in my family wants something, they go get it. But, as I said, I'm done. As an engineer, I have always been fascinated by how things work.  You can boil down most engineering to "Problem Solving".  Problem solving is a skillset.  The most popular problem solver in popular culture when I was growing up was MacGyver.  Lock the man in a room with some spare parts and a knife and he'd make an airplane.  The people that make the world work are real-life MacGyvers.    In our world, there are not a whole lot of people that fall into this category.  Atlas Shrugged

Every Which Way But Loose

Well. It has been one hell of a day today. Nothing bad happened. Nothing great happened. But the day moved along fairly quickly. Getting out of the driveway this morning was a grand adventure. So, this is a TV show and not a movie... but the show is really fascinating.  There are 10 seasons now.  What I love about the show is that it asks questions that don't have ready answers.  Now, I don't agree with them jumping to "it was aliens!" to everything they ask.  But that doesn't change the fact that something is wrong with the history that we know. It has been quite a while
