Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights has launched.  I'm still forming my thoughts on this one.  Once again, another company has taken a game genre that is action/adventure and turned it into a "Games as a service" grind fest that is more about keeping you locked in the game and not doing other things.  Assassin's Creed went this route, killing off the franchise back when they released the last Assassin's Creed game, Syndicate. I have been doing some deep diving on different aspects of writing for awhile now.  There are a number of books in the series from Angele Ackerman & Becca Puglisi. Alex Rider - Season 1 - IMDB TV

This is on free streaming from various Amazon sources, such as IMDB TV in the USA.  They did a really good job with the show.  This is based on the Alex Rider series of novels, which are over the top teen spy thriller type books.  The show (as the trailer shows) is likewise over the top.  They did a nice job here on season 1 in basically merging the first two books and giving you enough to show respect, but mixing it up enough to still throw surprises at you. This was an interesting spin on sci-fi.  The special effects and visuals were really good.  I have added the 4k Blu-Ray to my library. If you haven't seen it and you like sci-fi and some action, check it out.  It's been out long enough that you should be able to find it on one of those streaming services.

Dune Movie 2021

Please no one tell @Cia, but I still have not read Frank Herbert's Dune.  Though I have seen 2021 Dune movie starring Timothée Chalamet. I enjoyed the visuals a lot in this movie.  It can been a bit slow at times, but it was nice to disconnect and just enjoy it.  They made one hell of a big set up... I hope all the changes at going on a Discovery/Warner Bros doesn't ruin a sequel for this.

Forza Horizon 5

One of the ways I try to maintain my sanity is to unplug from the craziness of the real world and just do mindless fun activities.  Forza Horizon 5 is one of the nicest looking games I've seen.  It is hands down the best arcade racer style game out there.  It's huge and it's free as part of Xbox Game Pass. (PC, Xbox, Cloud - $15 a month... if you aren't doing bing searches with microsoft rewards and getting it all for free...) This is my go to game for a few minutes of relaxing each night.

Resonance in Writing

"Drawing On the Power of Resonance In Writing" by David Farland is a quick read.  As I continue my tour through books on writing by other authors, I stumbled across this one.  It makes a pretty good point with several modern examples.  Such as how Fantasy novels tend to resonate on Lord of the Rings.  Pretty much all of Dungeon and Dragons and rooted there.  Avatar has echos of Dances with Wolves. I have been very turned off by the lecturing nonsense that's been released from Hollywood the last few years.  The hack Millennial moron writers that have taken on scriptwriting and laid waste to subtlety and entertainment have virtually destroyed an entire industry and murdered my hobby of video collecting.  I have over 1300 DVD's and Blu-Rays.  But I've only bought 5 in 2021.  And 4 of those were 80's and 90's movies on 4K.  But I heard Nobody was both good entertainment and lacking any obviou

Midway - (2019)

This is a good movie that suffers from the comparison problem.  It's a pretty high bar for those interested in world war II movies to leap over the original 1976 Midway.  The original had Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, Glenn Ford, Robert Michum, Robert Wagner amount others.  The ensemble cast was a who's who of Hollywood legends.  So, set that aside if you, like me, grew up with your dad watching the movie. Force of Nature - A "B" Action Movie

I'll have to admit I picked this movie up on a whim. Mel Gibson action movies are usually entertaining.  And Emile Hirsch has had an interesting career. It was a bad movie, if you like brain-off B flicks.  I'll have to admit this groaner though... saw Mel Gibson and my immediate comment was "He's getting too old for this shit". If you see it somewhere on a streaming service and want to kill some time, there are worse ways to do it.  I wouldn't buy it.

Plot Gardening by Chris Fox

I am on a bit of a roll this past weekend. I managed to get through a couple of things in my backlog stack of many things.  I picked this up and it was a quick, easy read.  I'm old fashioned, surprisingly, as I still love the feel of paper and a bookshelf I can go do when the power's out, so I have this in paperback.  I also put a lot of Post-it Flags on various pages of interest.  This book talks about a topic and then shows how it is done in a handful of movies that you have probably seen

Writing Books - Dazzling Dialog

I picked up this book recently in my never ending quest to improve my writing skill set.  It's a short book that is a very quick read.  I'd recommend it as it targets a weakness that a lot of stories have and it gives practical tips on how to spot the problems and how to fix them Definitely worth the read.  It's available on Kindle as well if you like to keep your library digital.

Assassin's Creed: The Enzio Collection

I have been doing some retro gaming the last few days.  I've been playing my copy of Assassin's Creed: The Enzio Collection, which is Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed: Revelations.  They are, collectively, the best Assassin's Creed games in the series.  They are open world, but they were trying new things and the story was much tighter than the latest games. Immortals Fenyx Rising - Impressions

I finally sat down and played Immortals - Fenyx Rising today. It's on sale digitally and on various sites. I put links to Amazon USA below (they are affiliate links, Gay Authors gets a small cut if you order the game from the link) This game has a nice gameplay loop.  The narrators are entertaining and the world is very colorful and beautiful. I am playing on Xbox Series X and the game plays great and I have not encountered any bugs so far.  (Unlike all the other games out at the moment...)
