The Initiative's Perfect Dark

They announced the big game that Microsoft's big new studio, The Initiative was working on.  They are rebooting "Perfect Dark"   On the surface, this looks interesting.  I'm definitely down with "spy genre" games.  They are absolutely right that it is undeserved and there is a huge upside potential.  Unfortunately, they also posted an interview with the developers and it almost completely turned me off from the game, not from the game itself, but from the pedantic virtue

Watch Dogs Legion - Initial Impressions

I have played a few hours of this game and it is holding my interest.  The game is an open world sandbox where you can enjoy a number of tasks.  The biggest one is that you can recruit any person you see.  Anyone.  Once you have recruited them, you can play as them.  The game does a very good job of making people sound different.  Thus far, it seems occasionally repetitive on occupation. For example, the recruitment mission for various types of doctors seems to be nearly identical.  So, if you r

Lego Jurassic World

Lego Jurassic World, which was available on every system under the sun when it came out in 2015, is one of the best Lego Games to date.  It's fun. It's interesting.  It covers Jurassic Park 1-3 and Jurassic World.  It's not overly stuffed with busy work that takes forever to complete, either.  There are not difficult flight missions involved either.  As with all Lego games, there is an funny take on the events of the movies. They also took advantage of the dinosaurs giving them different ab

Lego The Incredibles

So, I thought I'd bring up another Lego game, as they are great for mindless entertainment.  There is an absolute ton of these things too.  Today's Lego game is Lego The Incredibles, based off Pixar's The Incredibles.  (Probably the best theme music for an animated flick too).  This game is narrowing in scope of something like Lego Marvel Superheros 2, despite having super heroes being a common thread.  The story follows both The Incedibles and The Incredibles 2 and is an enjoyable romp thr

Planet Coaster - Console

I have always been a sucker for roller coasters since I was tall enough to ride them. I've driven all of the eastern United States to ride real coasters and even made Six Flags Over Texas an essential part of the 2008 Dallas GA get together. From a gaming perspective, I've owned all the Roller Coaster Tycoons and a few of them more than once. So that brings us around to Planet Coaster Console edition, which is a Launch Title on Xbox Series X and being part of Xbox Game Pass (i.e., you ca

Starfied - From Bethesda - 2021?

So, with Microsoft announcing that they are buying Zenimax Studios and its subsidiaries, including Bethesda Studios, the next big title has seen a bit more news. Starfield, presumed to be coming in holiday 2021 timeframe, has a single announcement trailer.  This thing is looking to be more hard science fiction.  The trailer's visual and music gives off a 2001: A Space Odyssey/2010 vibe to it. (I like 2010 much better than 2001, from a movie standpoint while acknowleding that 2001 broke a lot of

Immortals Fenyx Rising - coming in Dec

Ubisoft ended up shifting a lot of games to this holiday dropping 3 major IP's in a 4 week window.  Immortals Feynx Rising (originally Gods and Monsters) is a new game world.   This is high on my list, as I like the look, the gameplay as described and a general interest in Greek Mythology. I will most likely get this near launch.  The character seems very highly customizable, which is cool.  Anyone else interested in this game?

Lego Marvel Superheros 2 Thoughts

This game was released in 2017.  I finally wrapped up 100% the game over the weekend. If you have played the Lego games, then you know the formula here.  From a story and humor standpoint, this is another entertaining game from Lego.  But it also has the the Lego Game downsides here that are amplified.  Flight controls and vehicle controls particularly in the races you are forced to do to 100% the game lose the game 2 stars right off the top.  They are horrible.  You fight the con

Summer Break 2018

Wow, with summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, we are definitely seeing a drop in people online.   Even I'm getting more sun. I'm going to cut back on the number of blogs I'm doing for now and pick up again in the fall.  It'll give me more time to do these silly summer homeowner things I'm suddenly stuck with. lol.

Jurassic Park World

I enjoyed this movie.  I was a big fan of the first Jurassic Park.  It was a definite classic.  Of course, that was before Steven Speilberg nuked the fridge... Jurassic Park 2 kind of sucked as the only character they kept was Jeff "The Annoyance" Goldblum.  Jurassic Park III, well... it was better than 2.  The kid was less annoying too.  So yeah... this is better than 2 or 3. Have you seen it?  Where does it rate for you?

Without Remorse by Tom Clancy

I have mentioned before that I enjoy Tom Clancy's epic length novels.  He had three intertwining series all set in the same world.  This is another thing I like.  Having a created world where you can do different series of books and the characters bump into each other.  Without Remorse is where we meet the major recurring character of John Clark.   This is a good solid book that is a pageturner.  It's been entirely too long since I've last read it, so it is back into the queue for the next time

Chair in a Bag

This fits today's theme too...   One of the cooler things they have come up with in the last few years are these folding chairs that fit in a bag.  I have about a dozen of these in various configurations as they were sturdy, portable and fairly comfortable.  I have several different brands in different colors bought in different years.  lol.  I keep one in the truck all the time and have one in standby just inside the garage door for when I went to sit out in the shade to read or

This was a nice little action movie.  And I generally enjoy any movie Denzel Washington shows up in.  If you haven't you seen it, and you like action movies, this is worth checking out.

Percy Jackson the Olympians

Rick Riordan has become a juggernaut through Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse Mythologies with his interlocking series of books.  They all started with Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.  (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief being the first book) I've read this 5 book series and I have the other 15 or so books in the interlocking series, but I haven't read them yet.  The man is just cranking these things out. They are aimed at teens, so they make a great light read for those th

Router Table

One of the things I'm getting more into outside of the computer is woodworking.  I'm lightly researching routers and router tables now for a purchase later in the year.  This will allow me to do some more work on making some furniture items as well as simple things like frames from plexiglass that I'll need for other things.  (Like an enclosure for the 3d printer I'm looking at). Is there anyone out there that enjoys woodworking?  what tools do you prefer?

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

As I mentioned in my book blog a couple weeks ago, I have been a fan of the Chronicles of Narnia for a long time.  I've always been a bit disappointed that they didn't do all the books as movies, but they also seem to run out of steam in the process.  (this series included).  That said, I think they did a good job with 3 movies they did in this series.  The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was the best of the 3 though, I think. If you haven't watched it and you like fantasy, this was well d

Ranger's Apprentice 1: The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan

This is an interesting fantasy world that doesn't really have magic.  There is a very large series of these books, including a couple of spin-off series.  It's a well-developed world and the books do have some good emotional impact.  There is one note of caution here.  For some strange reason, the books in this series are NOT stand alone.  They end abruptly without warning and start right back up in the next book.  So be aware, that if you pick up this book and like it, you're looking down

Play Station 4 Pro

If you are looking for a distraction... this does a good job of that.  It is not as powerful as the Xbox One X, but it's hard to tell unless you uber snobby on your 4k screens or have a 4k projector. Anyway, it's a good system with some great exclusive story based games.  For my comparison on gaming systems, I posted a little topic in the Video Game forum, if you haven't read it.

Eragon

I mentioned the Eragon books a few weeks ago.  They did make a movie out of the book.  I liked the movie enough, but it has some weaknesses.  The director's leather fetish for the young male actors was not one of them.   This is worth seeing if you enjoy fantasy, dragons etc.  The effects were done well and Jeremy Irons always adds some gravitas to what he shows up in. And the bad guy is played by John Malcovitch.  Check it out.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

This is a 7 book series.  It is also a complete classic, though most people are only familiar with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.  (Book 1 in published order) There has been a long debate amongst fans of what order you are supposed to read the books.  This single volume version puts the story in chronological order, instead of published order.  It makes a lot more sense this way. The books Chronologically: The Magician's Nephew The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

God Of War for PS4

This is one of the reasons I bought a PS4.  The game is definitely outstanding.  Looks great, sounds great.  Play is interesting.  I'd be having more fun with it, but as an Xbox guy, I have to say the controller sucks for the Playstation and its horrible layout is a hindrance to people used to a good controller.  Walking around fine.  Doing battle just sucks because I have 12 years of muscle memory for the xbox controller layout.   Anyway, the game is great.  Check it out, if you haven

I Am Number Four

So I mentioned I am Number Four series of books by Pittacus Lore last Friday in my book blog.  They did manage to make one movie of the series.  It was a decent adventure with some nice eyecandy.  Special effects were good and the movie was decent.

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

I Am Number Four is an interesting book.  Human looking aliens are amongst us and they are being hunted by some really bad aliens.  It's quite the romp and an enjoyable book.  It's the first in a whole series that has a follow up in the pipeline as well.  I enjoyed it and I really need to spend some time to finish reading the whole series.  Check it out!

Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker

So, I mentioned the book for this in the blog last Friday, so I thought I'd mention this movie.  The release kind of sucks as for some stupid reason, they haven't released a widescreen dvd or a Blu-Ray.  It is a cute little action movie with a lot of familiar British faces.  It's a quick romp with nice eyecandy.  There are worse things out there.

Storm Breaker by Anthony Horowitz

So, there are times where I want to read a little lighter fare that is still good.  Alex Rider series definitely fits this niche for me.  His adventures are all over the top.  He's pretty much a teenage James Bond.   The author is good across multiple genres as well.  I've read a few different things.  He's also written a well-received James Bond novel and two Sherlock Holmes novels.   Anyway, if action-adventure is your thing, the Alex Rider series of books (11 and counting) is w
