I Wish I Could Know Why.

it doesn't make sense when you put a story and you work it out but then people read without leaving a comment. Even a bad one, I wouldn't be left with nothing to work on.

Is the idea attracting the audiance?
Is the idea need something to spice it up?
Maybe I should make it rated.
Maybe I should add some blood
Maybe I should change the whole concept.
Maybe I should go on with it.

this is why I want reviews. I need answers!
I need to answer myself.
I need to find this story's voice.

Hey Dragon

It does take a while for the reviews to come in, so patience is needed :) but, I suspect that you'll get feedback as a result of this blog. GA is a very friendly community, all you have to do is ask for some feedback :kiss:

Best wishes,

Drew :)

From what I gather - you wish to gain comments/feedback/reads. To know you have an audience for a story that you are writing.

Readers sometimes, sadly, forget that authors take on these challenges. That, although, we are doing this for our own enjoyment, are sharing our work with them to enjoy as well. What I have learned, that if you are in the business of writing for the attention, for the reviews/comments, and for things of that nature - it is likely that your writing will always fall short of those expectations. Some people just don't feel comfortable with forums, reviewing works that they have read, or take the simplest form of praise and offer a rating or a 'like.' Thinking that will satiate our desire for feedback. Sometimes that works, if they are supplemented with people who do review every chapter. When it is just that, it is difficult to see that your writing is indeed being read or liked. There is only so much one can get from a, 'like,' or a sub-five star rating.

Also, what I have learned, is to take the bad with the good. To appreciate the people that aren't comfortable with forums/reviewing what they read, just as much as those that are more comfortable and offer reviews.

It is important to make people aware of your writing as well. I suggest opening a topic for discussion in the appropriate forum. You can end some of your chapters with a note explaining that you wish for people to review your work, bad, good, or otherwise. You can also link to that discussion topic for them to do it there instead of the review system in place in stories - although those are seemingly the more popular route for readers to take. I know I use them instead of PM or Topic discussions.

You can update your Status message to tell people who may be viewing your profile that you are currently writing. After posting a chapter update your status to: "New chapter for Story available.." , I doubt people will be annoyed with that. Also, I would only do it once per story within 24 hours. If you update multiple stories, I would either wait to update my status to include both.

Blog about your writing.

Have someone more creative make a clickable tag for your signature - within reason and rules for signatures within the forum. So every post you make, will provide people with a free advertisement. If the signature is catchy enough, it may draw people in.

Above all of that though - try not to write for praise and reviews, criticism and all that. Although it is nice knowing what people think. You should only write the stories you wish to write, how you want to write them, and be appreciative when the readers do support you. :)

Keep in mind that this is summer - the summer months June - August are deader than usual.

@Krista, It's a book idea, that is why I am eager for reviews. I am not a native speaker and it makes me rather nervous. I am always seeking to improve my writing skills and my beta reading and proofreading skills.

I saw where you only had one chapter posted as well. Online - people are a bit wary of reading stories that are so new. Only because it is so easy for that author to pull it or leave it unfinished. So you may need to post a couple more chapters and more people will be willing to pick it up as you go along. Readers need to have faith that the author will continue the story - they're investing their free time to read.

It is hard to gather the feel of some stories with just one chapter as well - especially if it has a lot of building left to do.

Try to be patient. :)
