How beautiful! Your Tanka unfolds like the rose itself. I love it. 

It’s a rose from my front garden. I took this picture a couple days ago, and yesterday it was raining when I left home in the morning. Steady  rain like we’ve been having is a bit unusual for May, as we’re entering a dry period now (won’t rain again until November).

😁😁😁 With Venus and the lily, I got inspired by the sight of the rose wet with rain to tap into myth and cliches; so, gild the lily is one, and hearts at war is the second. Thank you for reading and commenting. I appreciate it a great deal

Thank you, Tim! It's a snapshot of the very rose that inspired the poem. The day after taking the picture, I came out to go to work and saw it, a Nature "gilded lily" as it were, and got inspired.
