Hiccups anyone?

Does anyone else get hiccups a lot? I seem to get them a lot and I can't figure out why...I just hiccuped my way through some toast and it just makes eating seem like a lot of hard work...*sigh* back to the essay. It's so close to done, I almost just want to hand it in right now, even though it's incomplete so I can then come home and take a nap...

Also, my friend that I've not spoken to for like a year after we had an arguement and stuff should have got the package I sent her today... :( I hope she doesn't hate me...

I hope your hiccups went away! Those can be such a pain in the butt sometimes...and after a while painful. Have you ever had anyone plug your ears while you drank a glass of water? That always works for me...lol at least they go away. Something to do with a pressure difference or something. I have no idea...just a trick my brother taught me. :) I googled "hiccups" and found some other "self-help" remedies. hehehe...mine seems to be one of the less "painful" options. :lmao:

Self-Care at Home

Numerous home remedies for hiccups exist. The reason that these remedies are thought to work is that carbon dioxide build-up in the blood will stop hiccups, which is what happens when you hold your breath. If the vagus nerve that runs from the brain to the stomach is stimulated, hiccups can also be alleviated (this is what is happening when you drink water or pull on your tongue).

Try these methods at home:

Hold your breath.

Drink a glass of water quickly.

Become frightened.

Use smelling salts.

Pull hard on your tongue.

Place one-half teaspoon of dry sugar on the back of your tongue. (You can repeat this process 3 times at 2-minute intervals. Use corn syrup, not sugar, in young children.) http://www.emedicinehealth.com/hiccups/page6_em.htm

:D Good luck and I hope your essay is coming along. Have a great weekend and take care!!! :)

The way I can always get rid of my hiccups (though practice this first outside)

Take a glass filled half-way full of water.

Drink the glass by putting your mouth on the OPPOSITE rim. Basically, your upper lip needs to stay on the glass, and you need to bend forward until you can tip the glass enough to drink. I think the process of concentrating on this, as well as the action of drinking in that position, helps stop them. This method never fails me...

Yeh, I get the hiccups alot too. My friends alwaysx laugh at me because its like once or twice a day, everyday. The sure-fire way to get rid of them is to hold your breath but not normally. You actually have to breathe in as much air as you physically can, then some more. It hurts a little but hold it for 10 seconds and if it doesnt work do it again but after 5 seconds breathe in a little more and hold it for 10. It works because it stops the involuntary contractions of the diaphragm aka hiccups.
