I was reading this news article.

Aside from the obvious loss of a fellow human, what could possibly motivate these people? So he's gay? He was supporting them apparently... and they killed him for being gay? What the hell?

I hope they gas these morons.

Very disturbing, some people don't deserve the air they breathe.

It's sad that humans naturally hate and/or fear those who are different and I support the use of the death penalty in this case, I would still support it even if the guy they killed wasn't gay.

I'm all for the frequent and quick use of the death penalty in almost all murder cases.

only if you can prove beond a shadow of a dought who did it. After all with the death penalty your ending a life, that can't be undone.

We are easly moved by anger to make rash desihons. I'm not aginst the death penalty and suertnly not aginst it in this case. I just don't like seeing it abused.

well to take a life is worng but if you take one that i think you should pay with you own unless it was self def. but we are not different we are human like everyone else and that does not make it right so yeah if they know who did it that they should die for it but why gas let them fry.

If there was ever a case where the death penalty applied, it is this one. I live in the UK but lived in the states all my live and came from VA where we had the death peanlty. In cases of apital murder or where a child is killed, it should apply.

Take care,

If they knew him, I would find it unlikely that they killed him for being gay. There was probably something else that happened that they were unwilling to admit, maybe because it would further incriminate them?

In an interview with the Mobile Register, Capt. Huey "Hoss" Mack Jr. says it appears that Weaver was killed because he is gay.

So, what evidence has been obtained from the suspects to back this theory up? Couldn't there have been another motivation for a hate-crime like this? (Asides from the possibility that all three suspects were psychopaths who befriended the victim simply to give them a better oppurtunity to brutally murder him.) People should read less into such blatant sensationalism. Most probably they did kill him, and whether you believe that that action should be punished by death is entirely up to you.

*sighs* Sorry, I got a bit heated/rambling there- (stoopid self-righteous liberal humanism!) I'll go outside and cool down.

There is a quote from one of my favorite fantasy series that goes: "Humans fear what they don't understand." The quote comes in the aftermath of a human assault on a magical religious order's abbey. While the scene takes place as a part of retribution after a period where magic users abused their power, I've often felt that the quote could apply to quite a few situations in the real world. Many ignorant people act with an exagerated dose of fear when they don't understand something. They don't understand our lifestyle and therefore fear it. The level of fear leads to how they act on that fear. Most people just avoid having to deal their fear, but a few will try and eliminate the cause of that fear.

As for the death penalty, I favor it if it can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, including scientific evidence (i.e., DNA), that the accused is guilty of the crime. Of course there should be an automatic appeal as well before sentence is carried out.
