  1. 1. Should Cj divide his forum by sub forums (One for each chapter, and one for general silliness?)

Here's my thought on that.

Yes

Create sub-forums and divide up the stories and general silliness so its more organized and easier to find the earlier chapters for the new guys who want to see the discussions.

and

It makes blaming shadowgod easier if all the general silliness is condensed into one place so we can really see how much of a bad influence he's having in your forums... :P

There are only two multi-chapter stories so far, so I'd say no. The silliness has been a feature of the FTL thread, and trying to separate silly from serious would be counterproductive, IMNSHO.

I definitely agree with Bondwriter, my Caprican friend! :)

Silliness is endemic in these parts, and rightly so ... but it would be much easier to be silly in the right place, if the forum were split into story sections. Also, if you were new to CJ's writing, it would be easier to find what you were looking for.

I voted no on this issue and I do believe a new post is started with each chapter, with the exception of when CJ was postng a story was in eFiction.

And besides that hi-jacking a post can be fun.

I voted no too!

I do think the silliness is an indication to new readers that we are anxiously waiting for the next chapter. It seems the first couple of days is of actual critique or compliment of the chapter. Once there is no more to be said, it becomes a free for all on who to blame for the previous chapter, Cj or Shadowgod. :D .

Now since LTMP 10 was realeased today, and this isn't the actual thread, may I bring up something else.

Could there be a division arising amongst the Capricans? It seems the Herd is doing exactly what you'd expect, being a herd :P .

Could it be that this division might even rear it's ugly head in the latest run off poll?

Steve

The fact that it was split in chapters is good enough already. Most of the new posts at the beginning of the thread are actual comments, and the silliness kicks in later. (Well except when some faun viciously attacks the various beta/ proof/ zeta readers editors because he doesn't understand an audacious alternative spelling! ;) )

And I'd have a hard time deciding whether I want to post a "serious" comment or a "silly" one.

Last (but not least), this doesn't show any division among Capricans, but the Herd is certainly cracking up...

I voted no for the reasons described above by several people. The silly posts start between the end of the serious comments and the posting of the next chapter. It's part of the fun and always has been (and hopefully always will be). Separating them out would spoil some of that fun, as well as making it more difficult because the silliness is often in context of the chapter in question (such as in the discussions on what the next chapter title will mean).

I think we should have had an additional poll choice of "No, because it's Shadowgod's fault" too. :)

After all, if everything is his fault, we can blame him both ways, right? 0:)

To be honest, I've wondered about this issue. At some point, a separate forum for purely non-story-related threads might be a good idea, but so far, we don't seem to have too much thread clutter. We've only got 25 total threads so far. :)

One thing I do want to say though; I LOVE having seperate chapter threads for each chapter. Is that working ok for everyone? In the FTL thread, it was very hard to look back. But in eFiction its one thread per story, so I couldn't do any other.

If I start running multiple stories at once (which i do plan on here later this year) then it might be worthwhile to separate the two stories into their own subforums. Would that sound ok?

The separate threads per chapter works well. It also means that people can join in the fun, even if they haven't read the latest chapter, by posting in an earlier chapter's thread.

Even if you're running more than one story at once, I don't see a problem. You are unlikely to have more than four active threads at any given time (latest and previous chapters for each story). However, I would suggest archiving the old story threads into a sub-forum once the story is completed and most people have commented on the last chapter. This keeps the top level forum tidy and with all "current" stories active, but preserves the older stories and their threads for easy access for anyone new coming along.

Just my thoughts.

I like that idea!!

I'll have to leave FTL's thread in the main forum (a sub-forum for a single thread would be kind of bad) but yes, I agree on that; that would be great!

Actually, I disagree. It means it is easy to find that thread. If you leave it in the main forum, and you have two stories going at once, and both are on chapter 20 (say), then that means the FTL thread will be buried on the second, or even third, page. If it is in a forum by itself, it will be easy to locate for any new readers who come along and want to comment. Otherwise, they are likely to start a new thread in the main forum because they can't see one for FTL.

That is a very, very good point!! You're right!
