primewordsmith
DOR Ch16 Dan You're wonderful. You're gorgeous. So huggable. Such a niiice person. So loooovely. And then the Iron Lady makes an appearance. Sheeesh! Shame you can't put her through a blast furnace and melt her down so she can be rivetted into an iron-clad. She'd make a great dreadnought. Last time I saw her side on, she had the right shape. Link to comment
Guest sandyr317
I'm new at this - posting to a forum that is. Actually, I'm new to this group as well. I read "Do Over" late last year but just last week discovered "Do Over Redux". I really enjoyed the first and am enjoying the new twists that Davey is navigating his way through thanks to Dan and his fertile imagination. I noticed something that nobody else has mentioned, at least not in this reader forum, so I thought I'd give this posting thing a shot. In Chapter 15, right after Davey meets Brian, there's some dialog that's attributed to Davey that I believe is actually Brian speaking: Begin inserted text "So your family visiting a relative too?" He asked me softly. "No, my Dad's on the Quarantine commission." I said carefully and noticed him stiffen up. "He's here to check and make sure people are being treated right." "So your Dad is one of those responsible for all this?" Davey demanded angrily, giving me a glare. I shook at the thought that he would think Link to comment

I'll have to go back and correct that one of these days. It's my fault like all errors! Link to comment
primewordsmith
DOR 21 The Shining Path guerillas were Maoists. They crossed the Andes into Argentina to successfully overturn the military junta there. That made their march across the spine of South America even more outstanding than the Long March of Mao himself. And as they pulled their own artillery field pieces with them, it rated about as highly as Ho Chi Minh's manoeuvres to finally defeat the French occupiers of that long mistreated country. Since Mao was not an idealogue like Lenin and Trotsky in the Soviet Union, but much more pragmatic, a similarly pragmatic form of communism developed in Argentina. Many countries in the world came to think this was a good thing. The communists in Argentina managed to get themselves properly organised. It was their stated intention to stop the North Americans propping up other military dictatorships in the region, like that Panamanian military dictatorship originally set up under Noriega by the CIA, when it was headed by the former Vice-President George Bush, before he entered politics. They were implacably opposed to the cocaine trade in Colombia, and wanted to ensure none of that nonsense happened in Argentina. They remembered the Opium Wars in China, where the British used gun ships to force the Chinese to allow British trading vessels to import Indian opium into China, and export chests of silver in exchange. The communists in Argentina had no intention of allowing any nation to force themselves into their own internal sovereign affairs, and were especially wary of the "North American Empire". An increasing number of free countries around the globe were beginning to hold similar ideas. This caused President Reagan considerable concern. But what caused the President even more concern was Davey. Davey's reaction to the deaths of his grandparents and other relatives, plus the deaths of his former timeline adoptive parents, Mr and Mrs Rush, at the hands of Chinese agents, had hardened his hatred of the Chinese into an obsession. Plus Davey had been heard to whisper he would nuke Beijing, if he could get his hands on a nuclear missile. This had been quite properly reported to the President. And the President was really worried. President Reagan, who knew their history in Davey's last timeline, was thinking the only way to keep Davey from going right off the rails, was to ensure Brian gave Davey the security and stability afforded by their complete unhindered love for each other. But then, the President didn't know that Brian, while Davey's husband in the last timeline, had been killed while Davey was transferring to the latest timeline, and that this was cruelling Davey's hopes of developing his love for the "new" Brian. Plus there was the complication of Sean, who had also come back to warn Davey the Chinese were out. The day he came back, Sean was locked up in one of those strange North American institutions they seemed to specialise in at that period. A sanitarium for people with homosexual inclinations, and other deemed psychiatric diseases. Since Brian was no longer the person Davey had made his life-long commitment to, and Sean was the one in all three timelines who had gone so far out of his way to save Davey, Davey was beginning to have serious thoughts about Sean in substitution for Brian. The question of how much emotional pain Davey could bear, was becoming paramount. PWS Edited May 15, 2005 by primewordsmith Link to comment
