In my current story, for example, I've been trying to get the two main characters to have sex for the last few chapters but the buggers just won't cooperate!

Don't worry it's probably just a headache or nerves or something. I'm sure that sort of thing has "never happened" to them before :P:boy:

Welcome Kay - I'm looking forward to reading some of your stories when you post them - the titles have me intrigued.

Thank you! :D

I do that - I even write some generic scenes that I keep on file and use as appropriate in stories. When I'm in the mood to write sex I just go with it - when inspiration strikes you should never hold back.

I've done that as well. I've also written scenes that I know will occur far ahead in the story, but I haven't gotten to yet.

The only rule I'm aware of is that incubi are always male and succubi always female. I've got a few books on the paranormal and have heard of alleged cases of incubi visiting men, so if you're writing about the paranormal then it's certainly not incompatible with the myth. They are beings that feed off sexual energy, so I don't suppose it matters where that energy comes from.

That's the only 'rule' I've run across regarding them as well. Now, you wanna talk angels? *grins* *Most* of my angels are men...and gay. Considering that I work with them on a spiritual and personal level, they've been the easiest of 'paranormal' creatures that I've written, aside from vampires.

cool!!!! im writing a story about lesbian angels lol. and i know how my sex scene goes. i just dont know how to describe it lol. and as what angels look like. there are so many descriptions of them. like like... um... seraphs... the 3 pairs of wings. i dont really know if any of them are true, i think they are aliens. lol. the three heads. angels are grouped into choirs. what are demons grouped into?

Technically angels are supposed to be genderless, thus incapable of being male or gay, but the beauty of writing is that you can challenge existing preconceptions and rules.

Yup, that's the theory I've read in many, many places. One of these days, I might play with the genderless idea...

As for vampires, I love working with them too. The novel I've been working on for the past two years features vampires heavily, both as good and evil characters. The theory I work on with them is that, like humans, they are incapable of being solely good or evil, but choose their own path,..

*nods* Some of my vampires are good, while others are evil. And some? Well, they walk a thin line...

The only angel I've ever described using a culmination of sources, is the Archangel Michael. Other angels, I simply use my imagination when it comes to looks.

o mon dieu. sometimes i feel quite out of place as a humanist on this web-page... to think that the characters in my stories tend to talk about long-complicated-scientific-things. maybe i should write textbooks and not gay fiction...

Oh, but such conversations have the potential to draw a reader in! (Well...they would certainly draw ME in...LOL)

...okay, so in this chapter we'll be discussing vector calculus while also discribing a blow job between two imaginary students reading this book.

we'll be discussing the qualities of a curl-free field derived from the velocity potential by imagining the flow of fluids in their seminal vesicles during orgasm...

you know, i'm not sure it's a good idea...

you know, this is one of those moments when i realise how terribly naive i've been all my life. it seems to me as if most gay male erotic fiction is written by women, not by men. not that i'm complaining, of course :) just wondering why...

Not naive. LOL Believe it or not, erotic gay fiction is a rapidly-growing genre with female authors/readers. 90% of the authors I know who write it, ARE female. Now, if you want to get technical about things... I am omnigendered. Although I'm physically female, my mind is male. The only female thing about me (aside from legal name) is my body. I don't know if I'd ever go through the rigors of transition to male, simply because the surgeries involved are far from perfect, or even desirable, in some cases.

But back to the issue of the genre and its writers... within the female reader/author community, it's generally referred to as 'slash' fiction, the term 'slash' having originated along the lines of the actual mark denoting the pairing (ie. Kirk/Spock; etc...)

While most female-written gay erotic fiction is romantic in nature, that is not always the case. I ghostwrite for three gay porn sites, in which I write "first person accounts" using fake male names. There's no romance involved; just 1000-2000 word sex scenes. LOL

Part of it's because guys are generally more visually oriented than women, so tend to get into photo porn rather than written erotica. Part of it's because women are encouraged to be more romantic than guys and an awful lot of male erotic fiction's really a variant on the romance novel. And part of it's because, let's face it, just like straight guys get hot watching (granted, nearly entirely fake) lesbians go at it, an awful lot of straight women get off on the thought of two guys getting it on. :)

It is kind of funny, though. And interestingly universal. Japanese manga has a pretty gay men genre (yay for yaoi! :) ) and it's nearly all done by women. Not all, but most of it, and it's pretty easy to tell which things are done by women and which by men.

Very, very true! Although I'm much more visual-oriented than written, but until I can fulfill my dream of starting an all-gay porn company, I'll stick to writing. LOL

Also, for people like me who are dealing with gender issues, it can be a form of therapy. Writing it helps me tremendously in that it lets the man inside have his say.

mm, maybe i should write a story with van damme and someone else (i know, i'm totally perverted, i like jean-claude van damme).

you know, it's strange. i never used to be this way until about 2 years ago. i used to be able to do what i want the whole day long without difficulty, but now i hear a little voice in the back of my head 'you should be doing something productive'. strangely, writing gay fiction about people who don't exist doesn't trigger this voice, but writing a story about someone who existed, would. you have no idea how much i hate this voice...

well, maybe it's a good thing too. i've stopped playing computer games and instead program device drivers in assembly. you can imagine how much fun i can be at parties.

well, this reply seems to have degraded to the level of a blog.

*chuckles* You think this sort of deviation from a topic is bad? LOL You haven't seen some of the totally insane conversations we've had at ERWF.

As for the voice in your head... I can understand that. I've always actually admired people who can write fanfic, be it with real or fictional characters. There's only one pairing I've ever considered writing a fanfic about, and they are the heroes from the first two books in Glenna McReynolds medieval (het) romance trilogy. LOL

The sad thing is that I completely understand. (The sadder thing is that I'm finding device drivers are more interesting than the computer games...)

Regardless, it's something to embrace when you can. Follow that voice and you may find you can do some pretty damn amazing things.

Amen. That's how I got serious about writing, instead of playing EverQuest. LOL Now? I've got work published in several places. I wouldn't go back to my life before writing for anything.

Yep, and the cool thing is you even get used to the weird looks people give you when you tell them you write because you can't not. :P

Oh, yes. LOL Personally, I adore those looks. I've always gotten weird looks. Was a Class A "Tomboy" growing up; still am. Gotta love it. :P
