vision Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Hey Dan, you've been writing chapter 27, but how much longer? It's been ages without DOR
dkstories Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I actually scrapped the first writing of Chapter 27 a week ago and have been working on rewriting it. Unfortunately, there really hasn't been a lot of time for writing. In order to get a really good chapter going, I need at least two or three hours of uninterrupted time, and each chapter takes me about four to six hours to finish. At this moment, Chapter 27 is five pages long and was stopped at a natural break point so it won't be too awkward. Since I finished those pages, I've had no time to write. Today was a stereotypical day for several reasons: 1. Get to work at 8:00 a.m. (Yes I'm working now. One of Robert's friends needed some Temp help, so I got called. No, it's not permanent but it's work and it is money coming in, both of which I need desperately) 2. Work frantically, without a lunch break, until 5:00 p.m. 3. Jump on motorcycle, drive 89 miles to Ceres where Robert has already gone so he could take Aunt Carol to her Doctor's appointment. 4. Take Grandma, Cousin Michele, and Aunt Carol to a birthday dinner (Michele's was Saturday, Grandma's was today, and Robert's is tomorrow) 5. Return Grandma & Company back to home in Ceres (a twenty minute drive from Red Lobster not including time to lift Aunt Carol from wheelchair into vehicle, help grandma walk with support, etc.) Then drive back home to Sacramento, again an 89 mile drive. 6. Sit and talk with Robert, spending about 45 minutes of quality time with him and our dogs. 7. Turn on computer, read a few news articles, make a few posts, check the e-mail but don't respond to more than one or two of the dozen or so in my in-box. 8. It's now 20 minutes until midnight and I have to be up at 7:00 a.m. to get to work on time. Of course, today really was a slightly slower day than normal. Don't forget we also need to go over the final cut of Shapers Chronicles: The Wreckers, finish unpacking the house, do the dishes, do the laundry (the last two Robert's been working fiendishly at), dust, clean, occasionally take a dump, etc. Last night, it was bake four dozen cupcakes, a couple dozen cookies, bbq, and oh yeah, go to the last day of the State Fair, something Robert had on his wish list. Tomorrow, it's Robert's birthday and we're going to do something special. Maybe Thursday I'll be able to sit down and write...what I do know is that I'm not going to let myself be rushed to push out something that doesn't do what I want it to do...Chapter 27 is that important to me. It's not being ignored, it's not being pushed back...I REALLY want to write it out and get it out to you folks...but real life right now is extremely hectic. Not to mention that we're supposed to have a ceremony in November, unless Arnie signs the gay marriage bill...in which case we'll be delaying that until January. WooHoo!

Cheers ! Rad I checked my personal email box for the first time in a week today and myeyes rolled up at thenumber of stuff in there....I've got a personal laptop at work and the DOR files are on there. If I run into a late night (like tonight) and can type a bit when it's real late, 27 might just inch forward a bit.
Guest Drewcifer Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 soo... two months later, and still no post.. I hate to have to ask this DK... but are we EVER gonna see 27?
jessehotty Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 soo... two months later, and still no post.. I hate to have to ask this DK... but are we EVER gonna see 27? Dude - he said he would when he could
Guest Stormy Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Well, it's nice to know that Dan has a very full life. Congrats. I miss my DOR fix terribly, though. Let's hope the Writing Urge comes back soon... and thanks for the memories up to now :-) Wishing you the best, Olivier PS Am I the only one unable to access his blog since about 2 weeks ago ?
dkstories Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 With any luck you might get a fix by the end of next week. Most certainly there will be a new chapter not too long from now, and definitely before the end of the year. Maybe even two or three chapters. This chapter...well there's a lot going on in it and I have to make sure all the plot lines flow like they're supposed to...
Philistine Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 score. and here i was about ready to add it to the list of stories to check back on once every few months.
Guest chassel Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Perfect timing -- you made that announcement just before I was going to start begging.
dkstories Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I have good news, and I have bad news. You see, I've been writing in bits and pieces most of the week. During some slow stretches at work, I'd open up the word processor and type a few paragraphs, even a few pages sometimes and then I'd e-mail them home and put them with the rest of Chapter 27 and maybe type some more. Tonight, about ten minutes ago, I finished chapter 27. The bad news: I shut down the computer at work before the e-mail with three pages of chapter 27 managed to get sent. So, tomorrow I'll be going by work and re-sending those pages. Then I'll patch them into 27 (I finished it by remembering where I'd left off a few hours later and then typed from there.). Once I do that I'll send it off to my editor who'll need a few days (maybe) to go over it. Then he'll send it back to me and I'll review the edits before formatting it and sending it to Myr for posting. So the good news is that Chapter 27 IS DONE. The bad news is that Chapter 27 will not be ready for posting for a couple of days. I really am sorry. I wanted it for you tonight. Want some better news? Chapter 28 will be started tonight and should be MUCH easier to write than 27 was. I'd say expect 28 in a week or two after 27 is posted. After that, if things continue steadily like they are for me now, you might see a new chapter every 1-2 weeks. Oh, and if Robert ever finishes proofing Shaper's, you might see that in print and able to buy before a new year rolls around.
dkstories Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 quick update...I wrote about 3 and 3/4 pages of DOR 28 tonight. Considering that was all that was done on 27 for about two months, I'm fairly happy. There won't be much writing done tomorrow (have to put up the christmas tree, decorate my new office with pictures and stuff, and then Sunday is trip to Modesto to visit Michele and the family), but if this mood keeps up, I might have 28 done done as early as before 27 gets posted, and as late as the end of next week (when Robert and I are going to Disneyland for the weekend and most likely NO writing will get done).
Guest Drewcifer Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 WOOOHOO!!!! Sorry if I ruffled any feathers with my previous post... was suffering severe withdrawal symptoms. Dan: I could just kiss you right now... however, I suspect Robert would skin me alive (and I wouldn't blame him in the slightest) Long may the updates continue
dkstories Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 No offense taken and no feathers ruffled...and kisses are always welcome. Roibert's only though. Now, back to writing 28! (Robert's still working on the tree so I have some time to write before we head into my office for decorating there)
dkstories Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Chapter 27 has been sent to my editor. Once he's done going over it, you can expect it to go up later that day, or on the next. Usually it can take 1-2 days for him to get it back to me, but folks, it's moving right along (as is the wriitng of 28).
dkstories Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Quick update here folks. I just got back from a wonderful 4 day weekend in disneyland (literrally walked in the door fifteen minutes ago. When I checked my e-mail, I found that my editor has finished with DOR Chapter 27. Depending on how much time I have tonight, I might get the review/final touches finished tonight. If I don't, expect them to be done tomorrow. That means if I finish them tonight, 27 will be posted tomorrow. If for some reason it takes me until tomorrow to finish, the chapter will most likely go up on Wednesday.
dkstories Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Edits are done and chapter sent off to Myr. Should be posted tomorrow. I'm tired, going to bed.
