Trying to find specific story

Hi all,

 

I am trying to find a story I have read some time ago. If anyone has an idea where and under what title it was posted... please let me know!

 

Anyway, the story was about a young guy who ran away from his stepdad after his mother died.

His money gets stolen and he tries to get a job and a place to live. I think he ends up washing dishes or something.

At some point he meets an older guy he becomes friends with and I also remember that when things are tight he gives hustling a try.

Eventually, he finds out more about his family/past and gets together with a guy around his own age.

There was also some bit about an inheritance and fighting his stepdad in court.

 

Anyone has a clue?
