Church-related Stories

Recommended Posts

Can anyone reccomend stories that are church-related, featuring church-ministers, organists, etc. please? I have read a few in the past year or two, but didn't keep a note of the titles of course and will have to do a huge search to find them again. Searching for them via the 'religion' tag doesn't turn them up.

I have recently re-read the montrealormolu stories, so don't need those reccomending (!). Some features I remember in one was friends at seminary going to churches faraway from each other but they got together, there was massive wealth involved, one went away and travelled for a couple of years, might have ben called Roger; another story featured a young minister who went to a remote town where everyone was HIV+, was it eating massive amounts of broccoli that made them well? Don't remember a lot about another story featuring a music director and organist, but it was of interest as I am a church organist. And there must be many more ...

try Love Turns the Page by Etienne, it features a church organist/choir director. Etienne's other books are really well written as well.

Tim Mead also has a long story about a group of guys at college *It had something to do with Colby College/Uni/city* It had 4 guys, 3 were student athletes and one was a prof. There was a minister in the story, he didn't really show up until the middle of the story and wasn't a central character if I am remembering correctly but I do remember alot of church and talking about God. Try crvboy.org for him

Don Hanratty's Working it Out also has quite a bit of religion in it - issues with Catholicism and merits of the Episcopalian approach to gays. It's LONG but keeps you "turning the pages". Here's part of the blurb "Religious affiliations of the heroes and their real or adoptive families are portrayed as supportive of gays, who often seek formal recognition and blessing of their relationships in the Church."

Another story A Special Place by Sequoya includes Church characters and an organist but I never got beyond the first few paras of this so I can't comment on the quality of the story or the writing. Maybe someone else here has read it and can comment? It also seems to be a long saga.

Pertinax Carrus over at awesomedude.com - http://awesomedude.com/pertinaxcarrus/ - has strong religious themes in his stories 'Dermot' and 'Bryce'.

Also at awesomedude.com is Tyler Adams - http://awesomedude.com/tyleradams/index.htm with very strong religious beliefs throughout.

A Special Place by Sequoya is a very good story. The main story is 59 chapters then it splits in two intertwined stories to continue, The Concord Five and The Oberlin Five. Five of the characters graduate from high school and go to Oberlin College in Ohio while the other five are still in high school and stay in Concord where the main story took place. Matt, one of the two main characters is an organist and Luke, the other, is an artist. They are both 18 years old. I believe that it is a story well worth reading. Here is a link to Sequoya's web site where you'll find all three of the stories in the A special Place series along with other of his stories. All of which are a good read. He is an excellent author.

Thanks People.

Love Turns the Page has, think, been published so is no longer available on the 'net - shame! Working it Out, I've read at least three times; Beloved, I'm waiting untl it's finished, I hate waiting for parts to be posted. Sequoyah, I've read at least three times too.

Pertinax Carrus, as far as I can see, has written just the one story, which i will look at, and Tyler Adams looks interesting.

I can refind the others I mentioned by starting a new search from the begnning of the authors list; it's time-consuming nut worth it.
