A cool article on dreams in The Washington Post,

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/decoding-dreams-6-answers-to-what-goes-on-inside-the-sleeping-mind/2018/04/06/69b6f7c0-2de7-11e8-b0b0-f706877db618_story.html?noredirect=on

is reprinted from New Scientist, which requires a subscription,

https://www.newscientist.com/article/2164099-dreams-decoded-6-answers-to-the-mysteries-of-the-sleeping-mind/

Anyway, the first question addressed, “Why are dreams so weird?” brings to mind Kohl’s dreams in Mojo 16 “Cursed."

I just realized, for those of you who do not know of him, Fred Rogers had a children's show on public television for over three decades. He mainly aimed to teach social skills to preschoolers.

I know a few adults who missed all of his lessons!  ;-)

I still like his descriptions of genitals: some of us are fancy on the outside and some of us are fancy on the inside!  ;-)

Thanks to @mollyhousemouse, the movie It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World comes to mind sometimes when thinking about this project. So in the interest of presenting (even more) evidence that it really is a Mojo, Mojo, Mojo, Mojo World out there, here are two recent news items. They come from a regular column over at Reader’s Digest they call That’s Outrageous; The Price of Stupidity. You can check out the link and find more :)

Here are gems from the May, 2018, edition.

– A man was arrested after Florida police mistook the glaze of his Krispy Kreme donut for crystal meth. His sweet revenge: a $37,000 settlement.

- A woman won $25,000 after entering a sweepstakes at an Illinois gambling parlor. Good for her, except that she happens to be a prominent anti-gambling crusader, having gone after casinos, a VFW raffle, and even the parent company of the gambling parlor where she won. Still, she insists she’s not a hypocrite: Her winnings are a result of her crusade. “It’s God showing his grace on me.”

Haha ... oh you know, Michael reads me bits and pieces of people's stupidity, lack of morality, stupid errors and self-justification all the time.  I both love to hear them and hate them at the same time.

Michael laughed at the Krispy Kreme example..LOL  He said how odd considering how much cops love donuts - you'd think they'd know.

And God! Again. Seriously, if there is a God, it is time to come down here and bash some heads together.  How can God be responsible for everything. My fav God things are sports teams. Two American football teams ... each of them pray beforehand for God to show them the way.  The winner always thanks God.  God must be a real S.O.B. How can a being, who is supposedly everyone's Pop, lover of us all, etc. etc., dare to pick out favourites?  Shouldn't a good dad support all his kids equally?  What, to use one of @Parker Owens fav words, Codswallop!  ugh!

And speaking of laments (Ch 17), here’s a cool link on lament bass:

https://musictheorybridges.wordpress.com/2014/11/23/descending-tetrachords-muse-and-handel-are-both-sad/

One take away, to oversimplify a bit, is that the lament bass is so powerful, grabs so much of your attention, that it almost doesn’t matter what else is going on. Purcel throws in harmonies that might not fly otherwise, and Muse’s "MK Ultra" is just—well, it’s over my head. But doesn’t this notion remind you of Chapter 17?

Don’t know I can make this intelligible to any but me.. I love music. I would never be able to explain this or come to it on my own, but as I read the piece, I get it. Like an aha moment. That you are able to relate this to the chapter, and make me ‘see’ how that connection is made, is great.

It also makes me appreciate AC’s work in all sorts of new ways...

So, thank you.

Well, you’ve certainly made my day. A bonus is the painfully lovely rendition of Dido’s Lament by Elin Manahan Thomas. I imagine Kohl singing (an octave lower), soaking in the bathtub in his filthy tidy whities. ;-)

Just a few images to show how 'awful' and 'horrible' the place Kohl 'hated' is in chapter 17 ;)

It’s in the LA Basin. They steal our water and it’s sooooo artificial. Why wouldn’t everyone hate the place?  ;–)

And shouldn’t that ‘Pacific Avenue’ sign be green? And shouldn’t there be a ‘Go To Jail’ sign next to it? (Is North Carolina Avenue the next street over?)

Spoiler

As on the US version of the Monopoly board, of course!

It's easy to see how Kohl could hate this horrible beach so much but it could have been a lot worse.

He could have been in Blackpool!

I remember my first trip to the beach in San Diego just after we moved from Hawaii in August 1967. People said the water was warm. We were very skeptical, but decided to believe them. They had absolutely no idea what warm water was!

The California Current brings water from the Gulf of Alaska down the Pacific Coast. The water is warm only if you regularly swim in the Arctic Ocean! I think the only other time I’ve ever gone swimming in the Pacific Ocean in California was in Drake’s Bay where it was even colder!

You’ll notice that Surfers in California wear wetsuits. They don’t want to suffer from hypothermia. They’re not stupid.  ;–)
