Thorn Wilde Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 I needed some tunes that would relax me when I was anxious... So I decided to listen to Belle and Sebastian.
Thorn Wilde Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Also, this. I identify with Anthony... Bet I’m not the only one. Spoiler Anthony, bullied at school Get your own back, now you are cool Or are you scared? Bunking off though you're a toff It's all gone wrong again, you've got double maths And the teacher's got no control so The boys will run riot, you will stay quiet Or you will die Tony at the back of the gym Smoke another one, your chances are slim Cause here they come again And they got you on the ground Tasting blood again, at least it's your own When will you realize that it never pays To be smarter than teachers Smarter than most boys? Shut your mouth, start kicking the football Bang on the teeth, you're off for a week boy You may as well take it in the guts, it can't get worse Take it in the guts, it can't get worse than this You'll soon be old enough to leave them And without a notion of a care You'll lift two fingers in the air to linger there Tony, you're a bit of a mess Melted Toblerone under your dress And if the boys could see you they would pass you right bye Blue mascara running over your eye When will you realize that it never pays To be smarter than teachers Smarter than most boys? Shut your mouth, start kicking the football Bang on the teeth, you're off for a week boy They call you Lord Anthony But hey, it could be worse than Lord Anthony, but hey, it could be worse than Lord Anthony, but hey, it kind of suits you anyway You'll soon be old enough to leave them And without a notion of a care You'll lift two fingers in the air to linger there
TetRefine Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) An awesome remix of a great pro-gay song by the best DJ on the circuit, Dan Slater. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBaMRJxSJuk Edited February 22, 2019 by TetRefine 1 1
Page Scrawler Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) Sorry for the string of Oscar Stembridge videos, but he seems to be the most active of my "followed members" on YT. Haven't heard much from Declan Galbraith, Omar, or anyone else recently. Maybe I need to check my notification settings. Edited February 22, 2019 by Page Scrawler 1

Wayne Gray Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 I've been on a folk/indie kick for a while. Like, uh, years. 1
Page Scrawler Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Irish folk music is a favorite of mine.

Continuing the theme of Irish love songs, this one, sung (and composed) by Enniskillen native Neil Hannon, is one of my favourites from recent times. Part of what I like about it is the image of the song writer (poet?) sitting alone in his bedroom trying to write a love song, while his school friends are actually out there in the real world doing something about it (even if sometimes not very successfully). Pale, pubescent beasts roam through the streets and coffee-shops. Their prey gather in herds in stiff knee-length skirts and white ankle-socks. But while they search for a mate my type hibernate in bedrooms above composing their songs of love. Young, uniform minds in uniform lines and uniform ties run round with trousers on fire and signs of desire they cannot disguise. While I try to find words as light as the birds that circle above to put in my songs of love... Edited February 24, 2019 by Marty Inert omitted word 1 1
Wayne Gray Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 This one gives me chills. I've heard it so many times now, but, damn. 3
Thorn Wilde Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 This song has such a full an encompassing sound. One of the most perfectly mixed and produced songs I know of. 1
Page Scrawler Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 (edited) So, I was watching a Reddit compilation video on YouTube. Can't remember which one (there's so many), but it had to do with r/entitledparents. Basically, a family with kids goes into a restaurant after 9pm, when the kitchen closes. A sign was clearly posted out front, advertising a live band, and this was the song that triggered the EPs to cause a scene. Spoiler Edited February 28, 2019 by Page Scrawler 1
Marty Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 If you were to ask me to pick a favourite Leonard Cohen song I don't think I would be able to.... 1 1
Marty Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 (edited) I really must have a look at your Storms story, @Thorn Wilde... ... if only because every time I see the quote in the link to it in your signature graphic ("I had never truly dreaded going to school before. I did now, especially on Mondays") I am put in mind of this classic. Edited March 1, 2019 by Marty Clarification 1
Wayne Gray Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 If you like bluegrass (it's newer stuff, clean and pretty sound) at all then listen to this one. 1
Former Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Slightly off topic (but when am I not?): I think Charlie and Violet might be listening to the Pet Shop Boys. Bright happy music with sombre lyrics. Kind of a joke on all the people who dance to the beat, but don’t pay attention to what’s actually being sung… ;–)
Page Scrawler Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8EwGxJb3ZI Well. Haven't heard anything from Theo for a while, but he doesn't look or sound like a little boy anymore. It's incredible, how fast kids grow up. 1

Page Scrawler Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Another one by Jack Vidgen. I watched an old interview a few days ago. He explained that he wrote the song himself....for his Mum. 1
