So one of Microsoft's oldest living franchise, Microsoft Flight Simulator, released a new version today.  And can I just say... whoa.

When I save I live in NY, people always assume this:

But the city is small rancid pimple on the State of New York.  Here's a shot, from 6600 feet up, about halfway between home and where I went to school.

So much farm country.  And that huge body of water on the top of the picture is Lake Ontario.  The visuals in this game (at this distance) are crazy insane.  They don't look as good when you try to zoom.. but for flight... it looks like you are looking out of  plane window.

It's included in Game Pass.  Game Pass is $1 for 30 days to try out.  Just saying.

  When I say I'm from New York, people always assume the city.  When I say I'm from Buffalo, the inevitable response is "Oh, it snows a lot there!'   The flight simulator looks really cool.

I had Flight Simulator back in the late 90's and had a Sidewinder Joystick that the base took up like a quarter of my damn desk :P

So if I want to download this, what do I need to do that? Do I need an Xbox? Do I need a controller?

This is on PC only at the moment. it's available on Steam or the Windows Store.  If you go for the cheap xbox game pass approach, you need to get it from the windows store, I think.

(Microsoft now calls all their game stuff "Xbox" for some reason.)

I remember after the first time I flew as a kid, I became absolutely obsessed with planes, airports, and transportation in general (and it's still one of my main interests to this day). My dad took me to get Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002, bought me a joystick, and I flew endless hours all over the world. I updated in 2004, and got X in 2006. Eventually I stopped playing, and just assumed the franchise was dead. I had no idea there was a new one coming out! Unfortunately I don't have anything compatible to play it on, so I'll just go to YouTube and watch some videos posted there.
