Pen Name/User Name Choice

Hello, Hi. 

I have been a silent reader for a few months now, and I have just stuck my baby toe out into the world of "topics" and "making comments". I plan on adding my own stories in time. I'm just working on understanding fully the process of doing so (and finding the courage to take that step).

As a silent reader I have been  wondering how everyone, or anyone went about choosing their user name/pen name here. 

I currently don't feel like mine is the right choice for me but I don't want to keep changing it. 

I would be really interested in any one who is willing to share their process with me.

If it was easy, if it was hard. If there was meaning behind it, or maybe no meaning at all. 

I am curious and hoping that once I get some what of an idea it might help push me more in the direction of submitting something.

Since I answered your first post in the other section, I will copy here.

Hey, Quilah. I happen to like your user name. It sounds like a writer's name to me.   Mine, I attribute to my passion of riding, training, and showing horses, something I did for decades. I wanted something that paid homage to that. And, since I have a collection of headstalls (western bridles), and one was hanging by my desk at the time I needed a user name, I chose Headstall. It was as simple as that. Cheers!

Mine is my real person nickname, shortened from my full name. I don't use the whole nickname, though, that's just too embarrassing. Apparently I had a habit of showing up in unexpected places a young child. FYI because you're an author, you can't change your display name anymore on your own. This avoids creating confusion for readers (and site staff) on site content. You will need to contact me via PM to have that changed, preferably before you begin posting, so just make sure you know what you want!!

I originally come to GA with a different username but decided to change it for personal reasons. I chose Mancunian as I am from Manchester UK and residents of Manchester are collectively known as Mancunians, it seemed an obvious choice at the time. I sometimes wonder if I made the right choice to change it and if it has made a difference to how my stories are received, but what's done is done. I do agree with @Headstall that Quilah sound like a good and appropriate username for a budding author, but the decision has to be yours and yours alone.

My username is one I have used online for several years. I chose it because when first started using the Internet, many sites needed a username. On the bookshelf above my computer was a weighty tome, written by someone I collaborated with on many stories. ‘Mawgrim's Flask‘ was the title, so Mawgrim I became.

Thanks for letting me. I definitely want to avoid confusion, if I do find something that pulls at me I will be sure to reach out but only if I am sure!

I think you user name is clever. Something close to home and a part of yourself with out giving too much away.

 Love that its a homage to a piece of your past, and something you can carry in to the future.

I use a pen name on this site.  Cassiopeia was a name of one of my early characters and the name of my muse so I could have something to curse at when I had writer's block.  Quinn is the last name of a person in my past that was important to me.  Cassiopeia Quinn shorted to CassieQ.

A little late to the party, but I'm here!

I've always had a hidden hatred for my real name. My parents named me justly. A knack for being cunning and sometimes deceitful. So much so, it impressed God to give him a new name. 

So here I am. Aaron. With my new name, I'm able to express who I am within my writings and be limitless in what I wish to create. 

My last name isn't as creative. Stone is merely based off my favorite superhero, Cyborg. Boo-yah!

That is what I was seeking; a name that allows me to express myself and feel limitless in what I want to create. You're lucky to have found such a name for yourself.
