Site Moderator Popular Post drpaladin Posted January 18, 2023 Site Moderator Popular Post Posted January 18, 2023 It is with great sadness I must announce the death of Mawgrim, Promising Author on GA. He had been in declining health for some time and passed away on Christmas Day. Mawgrim worked for decades as a cinema projectionist before his retirement and was able to use this breadth of knowledge to his stories set in cinemas. He also gave us stories with his take on the World of Pern with its dragon riders. He will be greatly missed and our condolences go out to his friends, family, and his husband. Before he went into palliative care, Mawgrim expressed his wish that his current story, Last Reels, be completed. Unfortunately, he never forwarded those chapters to us and at present it is unclear if it will be finished. 51
Popular Post Bill W Posted January 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 18, 2023 I also wish to express my condolences to Mawgrim's husband, family, and friends. He will be sadly missed on this site. @drpaladin If you, or someone else, are in contact with Mawgrim's husband, and Mawgrim finished writing the remaining chapters, then possibly his husband can forward those chapters to you, and you can then ask an administrator to post them. I think it would be worth trying to find out, so Mawgrim's last wish can be fulfilled. 1 28
Popular Post Carlos Hazday Posted January 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 18, 2023 Fuck! This one hurts. I discovered Mawgrim on another site and suggested he should post on GA. I'm glad he listened. His stories brought great joy to a lot of us. May he soar on dragon's wings. 5 25
Popular Post George Richard Posted January 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 18, 2023 (edited) @Mawgrimput up a valiant fight, writing to the end. His stories were some of my favorites, so I hope his last story can be found. Edited January 18, 2023 by George Richard Autocorrect 7 21
Popular Post kbois Posted January 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 18, 2023 My heartfelt condolences goes out to Mawgrim's husband and family. The world has lost a wonderful person. 💔 5 20
Popular Post northie Posted January 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 18, 2023 Although our paths never really crossed, it's clear Mawgrim contributed not only his stories but across the site. I read his last blogpost which he described as 'whingeing'. It is hardly whingeing to look your mortality squarely in the face. Clear-eyed courage is more appropriate. My commiserations to Mawgrim's many friends on GA and to his family. 1 27
Site Administrator Popular Post Valkyrie Posted January 18, 2023 Site Administrator Popular Post Posted January 18, 2023 I knew he was ill, but it's always a punch to the gut to hear news like this. Northie hit the nail on the head. Mawgrim embodied courage, and I greatly admired his outlook in the face of dealing with his illness. He was always a pleasure to interact with, and he will greatly missed. My condolences to his family and friends. 1 24
Popular Post Headstall Posted January 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 19, 2023 Very sad news. He was kind in the couple of interactions we had, but I had no idea he was ill. My condolences to his family and his fans. God rest his soul. 2 20
Popular Post Mrsgnomie Posted January 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 19, 2023 (edited) This one hurts. Having worked together on multiple stories, he was someone I considered a friend. He suffered more than he let on. Whenever we talked about it, I knew it was downplayed. Or maybe he just chose to see the best in it all. And, as much as the loss pains me, I’m happy to know Ben has been relieved of it all. He will be missed. Edited January 19, 2023 by Mrsgnomie 3 19 4

Popular Post Arch Hunter Posted January 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 19, 2023 Sad news. He was a kind human and an imaginative writer. GA will be emptier without him. 2 17 1
Popular Post James Carnarvon Posted January 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 19, 2023 That's so sad. As an author myself who was lucky enough to capture his interest, I found him to be an attentive, appreciative and insightful reader... and a fellow Brit, if I remember correctly? Thank you for sharing the sad news with us @drpaladin. It's so much better done this way than to have him simply disappear and be the subject of rumour. RIP Mawgrim, I hope you find freedom from illness and pain in whatever comes next... 2 19
Popular Post raven1 Posted January 20, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 20, 2023 Magrim was an excellent author who communicated with his readers with thoughtful and considerate comments. I will miss his exciting, well crafted stories very much. I know he will be in the hearts of his readers, as he starts his new journey. 2 16

Popular Post Mancunian Posted January 20, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 20, 2023 It's sad to hear that another popular and talented author has passed away. @Mawgrim will be missed by many but he will live on in the hearts of those that love him and will be remembered by his friends on GA and those who have read and will continue to read the stories he posted. Those stories are his gift to us all and the world, and should be treasured. 2 18
Popular Post ColumbusGuy Posted January 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 24, 2023 I have enjoyed all of Mawgrim's stories here, and his talent was enormous, yet he made things look so easy with his characterization and scenarios. I don't have a clue how he managed to keep his mysteries so puzzling--my guesses were always far off the mark, much as I tried to unravel them. Guess I'm no Charlie Chan or Sherlock Holmes. I often commented on his Pern stories that he was far and away the best at recreating that world in all its details, better even than Anne's son in my opinion. I first read Anne in the 70s, and loved all her entries, but I think I stopped reading her son's after the third as he just didn't capture the 'feel' of the place. Mawgrim, for me, brought that pleasure back to me from his first story I read here set in that culture. You are sorely missed, my friend...a worthy successor to Masterharper Robinton. 2 20
Popular Post drsawzall Posted February 22, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 22, 2023 We are all so much richer for knowing Mawgrim, one of the most talented writers here or at any other story site. A true gentleman and a wise soul. You will be greatly missed and godspeed... 4 12
Popular Post centexhairysub Posted February 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 24, 2023 I just saw the notice a bout @Mawgrim passing away. I was going through some stories that I knew had not updated recently to see if there was any notes. I truly hope that somehow we get the last chapters of Last Reel. Mawgrim was a talented writer and his Pern stories were exceptional. Will truly miss the stories but will also miss the person. My interaction with him proved that entertaining. He was funny, wise, but oh so witty. Will truly miss his words and stories. May he find peace in the inbetween.... 3 10

Popular Post Branflakes Posted June 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 27, 2023 Really very heartbreaking to find this out. So much love sent out to his family and loved ones. I just found out ... saw an email that slipped through the filters (telling me in Dec 2022!) that Mawgrim had messaged me back regarding his help on my story and asked if I would help him in return with some edits. I regret that I wasn't able to help him. But I know he is in a better place now and hope he went peacefully and softly. ❤️ 1 8
