    Chapter 7

I was doing really well with nary a tear shed until Dwight appeared not once, but twice, in Phil's "window". I am keen to learn more about him @Ronyx because it appears he may have been the "love of his life" for Phil, a life cut short by HIV/AIDS. Several other readers have expressed their concern for Stanley's welfare, with @weinerdog going so far as to wish Matt from Stuff People Do could make a guest appearance to provide counsel not only to Stanley, but perhaps to Mrs Sullivan too. It appears Mr Sullivan may be a lost cause, unless it was just the fact he caught his son watching porn, rather than watching specifically gay porn, which caused his outburst. Methinks it was more likely the gay porn, rather than just the porn, which has outraged him so. I hope that between Phil and Colin they are able to track down Stanley and provide him with comfort and reassurance that he so desperately needs. I was 1 month old when President Kennedy was assassinated. My father has on occasion recalled where he was at the time, he was bathing me and he and my mother were shocked as many were. I must confess I know little of his political achievements, these having been overshadowed in the press at least, by his alleged womanising, particularly with Marilyn Monroe. The joy experienced by Phil from something as simple as a clean shave and a fresh haircut was beautifully captured @Ronyx. I am often surprised when I have had a fresh haircut (as I did yesterday) what a "pick me up" and can be if I am feeling a little blue or unwell. The pleasure derived from simple things like this should not be underestimated, particular in today's often shallow modern world obsessed with technology and social media.
  3. Yeah, these last couple of chapters almost rival what Kyle Aarons writes in his Kandric Saga!
  4. Today
  5. And back to me. Not that I'd do it, but it's Hug a Plumber Day. We all have it, it's National DNA Day. For those of you who can do it, Take your Son and Daughter to Work today. Let's hear it for the Telephone today. Todays snack is Zucchini Bread.
  6. What a roller coaster ride! We meet many an interesting person during our course of the story, both in Carlos personal and his professional life.
  7. So, they are essentially only throwing one party after another at this point. Oh my … 😬 But at least, now they finally learned another term for "making love" … Is that a nod to bragging about the cars in the first chapters? The qualifier makes it pretty flexible, mind you 😉 👍 Pretty conservative. Life is not all about kids. Not about the "perfect" two children family. And you don't need to have an excuse (being career-focussed) to not want kids. And there doesn't have to be the qualifier "yet". Well, it's not like it was kinda prophesized in the comments of earlier chapters that Carlo's methods and decisions are sometimes a little questionable, so it's only logical that something happened. As I said in your other story: Very American that the only thing, one can think of, is a car 😜

    Chapter 7

I was 12 and in the 7th grade. It was maybe a quarter to 11 am (pacific time) when a student from the office brought a note to our Social Studies teacher, who turned on the TV. I was busy reading our assignment when kids around me began crying (especially the girls) and making enough noise that I looked up to see what was going on. I can readily understand how Phillip feels that people today don't know about Nov. 22nd but don't even remember Sept. 11th. It looks like Colin and Jason might be getting closer. That's a good thing. Phillip needs something good to happen in his life.
  9. Thank you for an excellent story. We are used to stories where the protagonist (In this case Carlo) is really smart and while nobody 's perfect you would think they would learn from mistakes it's disappointing that Carlo apparently didn't unless it was something totally different and unrelated to what happened with Duncan. Could somebody with incidents like Carlo had get work like he did? I'm glad you mentioned what year this story started I was going to mention "A Laurel and Hardy Story 100 years old? I have to admit prompt #68 sounds very interesting looking forward to it Oh BTW I didn't skip to the end
  10. If your looking for a poem that will leave you feeling a bit nostalgic, this is the one. It won't take you long to read and you'll find it well worth the effort.

Emmett comes from a witch coven, but he is not a witch himself. It will stay a mystery for a while longer Thank you!

    Into the Past

Brilliant! I believe you took us all on a trip looking back at our past. I loved your descriptions as you went through the various seasons and the images you evoked were ones that many of us could identify with. It left me feel a bit nostalgic after I finished reading your poem. Thank you for sharing this wonderful verse

    Finley

God yes so many annoying people suddenly less in the world! Thank you!
  14. "Seems" may be an apt description based on Oscar's trepidation at Koen's offer to join his trip home to Canada for a Christmas vacation. Lucky for Oscar, there isn't sufficient time to get a passport. Oh wait @quokka, there is. While the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) normally takes 6 weeks to get a new passport, if you are travelling on short notice you can, according to their website, use the: "Urgent applications Priority processing. If you need your passport urgently, you may be eligible to pay the priority processing fee for faster service. We’ll process priority applications in two business days from when we receive your application". Oscar and Gramps could pick up his new passport on 3rd business day at office in major nearby city, like Perth. And Quantas flies non-stop Perth to Vancouver round trip for $3600. But it is a 23-hour flight and that might be too much for Oscar to handle. 😒 IF he changes his mind and really wants to go and give 'snow' in BC a try? Normally he would need his parents to sign passport application approval, but as previously stated, they gave his grandparents 'Guardianship authority'. Emmett

We could settle for "he's a rare type" Thank you!
  16. Gary, "Breathless" is beautiful and erotic. It draws you in and fills your mind with countless images. "Mendacity" is powerful, and even scary, because it honestly expresses the 'sign of the times' . Its what many of us have to deal with on a daily basis. Thank you for sharing these two vastly different poems.

    Changes

An interesting look at the 'four seasons', Adi, and each one brought vivid images to my mind as I was reading them. Your title, "Changes" reminded me of the song "Changes" by David Bowie and the catchy lyric - ch-ch-ch-ch- changes. I'm still humming that tune. Wonderful job!

    Chapter 1

A wonderful collection of poems, Tim. I really enjoyed them, especially your final poem. Thank you for sharing.
