  2. I first read this particular…chapter? Episode? Story? Part? Of the SS universe via the author’s website. It’s well-written and I was intrigued by the premise. I like that Alec and Sasha are very different people but still managed to come together. Who Alec is, someone that won’t back down, maybe as a way to impress Sasha, but also his personality that drove him to do what he did. We are all teenagers once and some of us never had the fortune to meet someone who would stick up for us or be there for us through thick and thin. That is the review for this particular part (chapter?) of the series. Moving to the series itself, I do say I quite enjoy the characters overall and they are all complicated and multidimensional - with various degrees of issues being dealt with when coming to terms with being an awkward teenager and/or being gay. With that said, the author also explored multiple issues/subjects including, what I believe is the correct term, polyamory. I have heard about it, I have came across fiction that explored it but I never would choose to get out of my way to read them. While some may be uncomfortable with the concept, as I was (and still am), I don’t think it’s fair to ding someone’s creativity because of lack of a trigger warning. I was surprised to read the throuple and development between the four original characters, I forced (not in a bad way) myself to go through with it to try to understand how that can work and what that means. Those parts of the series forced me to think and get into an area that I never thought to enter. With that said, I still don’t understand it nor will ever entertain the idea of being in any polyamorous relationships (which btw, is not the same as polygamy relationships) but it’s definitely something to know and learn to accept that we live in a very diverse world and that is a reality for many people. The one thing that tickles me is these teenagers are a whole lot more mature than when I was at that age or anyone I knew at that age. If they were a lot older (mid to late 20s) I would think the complexities would have made sense (heck, I’m still trying to figure myself out at the ripe old age of old enough to be their parent). But it’s fiction and its creativity, so who am I to judge. I actually stopped the series at about 70-80 chapters in (last I checked it was at 135 or something) and needed a break - maybe not a good idea to power through in one go but great series though. Not sure when I will pick it back up…(I did spoiled myself with the family tree).
  3. I will paste you’re quote: I have written/am currently writing every genre I wanted to write, so let me think about my options here... I believe Fantasy is next on my list. The thought of going deep into world building leaves me nervous. I'm not the best at detail tracking. Such subterfuge and misdirection! You should write a spy novel next!

    Chapter 1

A former war correspondent and somewhat well known author* (who wrote a few fiction stories) said: "The best writing is rewriting". Why? He explained that, "...no one gets things perfect the first (or many) time. Cooks fiddle with recipes. Great painters frequently painted over initial works because they didn't look quite right. Writers remember things they forgot the first time through, want to clarify something, or just say it better". In this 'rewrite' of Halos and Heroes, (Book 1 of Finding Home series) @JJ Quinn takes this idea to heart, and the result is a richer, more intense and more informative look into the life of a unique man, (perhaps someone we've passed by and not given a second thought to). Do you need to read the original to appreciate the changes? No, but those with an 'Editors Eye' to detail, , will find the updates worth the effort put in. * Ernest Hemingway

    Chapter 8

It took a while to explain to Alec and Finn, I seem to remember. Maybe there's a dom/sub phase to this coming up, but I find master/brat enormously easier to read about characters I like. And more fun. Because neither of them loses themselves in their relationship-role. I'm finding that to be something I like a lot about this story... I know it's a romantic comedy (possibly on the wildly sexy side). I Hate This Town spent a long time looking like maybe it was going to be a tragedy. But we can trust have faith in Riv-Ken, Ken-Er, Kenver whatever we're calling this is going to be alright.

    Chapter 6

It had been a long week at work, there had been presentations to endure but it was now Friday night and Thomas is at Zack’s place. Thomas has brought his laptop round and they have just finished up the latest spreadsheets so they are prepared for the work ahead in the next few weeks. It makes Thomas feel at ease to know everything at work is on track, it is a relaxing feeling of accomplishment. Thomas has just closed up the laptop and is just chopping up carro

    Chapter 3

It can only be but one person and I did think of her before "inventing" Luciana. Claudia, due to her spunky attitude would not tolerate Vincenzo's homophobia, nor would she be impressed by his flashy manners and ostentatious displays of wealth. She could give him "numbnuts" with a withering look or a subtle put-down. I could not remember if Claudia had met Cosmo either. I was very impressed with and greatly appreciated Cosmo's positive appraisal of Marco's looks, but completely forgot to comment on this because I was so incensed by Vincenzo's behaviour. His disdain for the simple gift Cosmo gave him irritated me too. I was hoping when he left Cosmo injured and upset that he would tread on a shard of the broken ceramic dish and sever a vein in his foot. Hopefully he will get his comeuppance (perhaps his brakes will fail on a hairpin bend and he will be forced to ride a Vespa too).
  11. Not what one would expect with the title but I really enjoyed the plot. You can wish there was more but I feel the ending was still quite appropriate.

    Chapter 3

Thanks for all the comments so far (terrible jokes aside). I'm actually still editing this story even as I begin to post it; last night, I decided that a key part of chapter 6 was underwritten, and I actually ended up adding around 1,000 words to it (it's a daunting 8,500 words now, compared to my chapter-by-chapter target of 6,000 words). In a way, I may have started posting too soon, but I'd been grinding away at writing this story since the end of December and I was keen to start putting it out there. It hasn't always been the easiest of writing journeys. Memory game time. Who do we know who worked or aspired to work on the Amalfi ferries, and might have reason to reject an ugly soul like Vincenzo? In the swimming scene, there's one thing I was half expecting you to mention but, since you didn't, I'll bring it up myself. For all Cosmo's many deficiencies, through his eyes we nonetheless get our first entirely positive physical description of Marco. I thought it was important to provide a firm contrast to our little mouse's own lack of self-belief. Looking at Luca, Vincenzo and (if we go back to earlier stories) maybe even Enzo, I wonder if there's a thing with heterosexual boys in my stories being written as less sympathetic? I feel like I/we would naturally find them less relatable, and I'm actually glad that Vincenzo read to you both as overtly hetero from the beginning. I wasn't trying to hide it; just to insert enough ambiguities for Cosmo latch onto and get the wrong end of the stick, so to speak. As to Luca... I don't think he's ever really integrated that take on Cosmo's choices when they were younger into his worldview, despite Dani suggesting it as far back as the last story. Who knows, maybe this story will allow him to grow into his relationship with Cosmo a little? Aargh! 😩 (I do, since you brought it up... but if I lived in Ravello, I'd be tempted to brave a Vespa.)

    Chapter 8

Later as we know River and Kenji will have a front row seat to what was happening with Alec and Finn I wonder if observing those two help them navigate their own relationship. I had no idea how much paint was smeared over my person and I quickly lost track of time. If River went out in public with all that paint on him would Anyone really notice?🤔 So Kenji overheard a member of his staff speak of Rivers page. I hope you write a scene where River shows up with Kenji at his place of work I would love to see the staff member reaction
  14. Good advice... although at times it feels like life can be a dumpster fire and you need to douse those flames with a giant extinguisher of whoop ass. 🤭
  15. If you enjoy travel-themed romance and LDR, this will be good for you. It’s really sweet and great happy ending.

    Chapter 3

You could always switch your car nav on James, assuming you have a car (I don't and never have). And I have just realised this does not really work as you have a second r. Have I not noticed this before? I am not sure if I have or if I am suffering from temporary insanity (I don't have enough hair left anymore to be blonde).
  17. This a beautiful story with an intensity that can leave you breathless. A bit of a trigger warning for mental health issues. Otherwise, well written and a great read.

    Chapter 3

With jokes as good as these, I see I'm going to be making extensive use of the 'Sad' reaction to represent 'Groan' in the comments on this story!
  19. There is actually a bit of mystery and humor in this. It’s a bit of a riot and a fun read if you ask me.
  20. Hopefully Alec's truth-telling will also have an impact on his father and he will finally grow a spine too. Let Mae die alone; a lonely, bitter and twisted woman, who drove away with hate and scorn those she should have loved. River stop smoking. It is a filthy, unhealthy, disgusting and very expensive habit. You are too good for smoking. I have but one thing to say @Demiurge and it you better work, Supermodel. Mae, long may you suffer and rot, bitch.
  21. Yeah, they discovered the pitfalls of alcohol but were fortunate to get away with it.
  22. 6th June 1991: I hate missing sessions to write. I'm itching these days to tell you what’s happening. I must get myself checked out if I keep referring to this book as a person. It can't be healthy… can it? Christ, I have no idea, but hey, I guess there could be worse things than talking to a book; then again, isn’t that how writers go crazy? They spend too much time talking to the book or themselves. I saw that somewhere, or maybe read it… or perhaps I'm starting to get weird from all the

As a foreigner with English as only a second language (I am a Quebecois and my first language is French), I find Nigel Gordon's stories and novels to be very revealing of certain aspects of daily life in England and fascinating. I believe that we can also break it among the great UK authors.
  24. Heartwarming series. Love the build-up.
