There's some potential evidence to support that Liam would look out for Mike, provided Mike was actually honest with Liam. Liam had asked if anyone was messing with Mike, and Mike lied about the small amount of bullying Mike experienced. Liam has been trying to get Mike to hangout with him and his other friends, who might know Liam is gay (they might be gay, themselves, as we assume Olivia and Abi are), but Mike keeps turning him down. Then there was the incident at the mall when Liam yelled at the kid and the boy's father for the kid bumping into Mike. There's been no evidence to support that Liam is afraid of confrontation; if anything, the incident at the mall shows that Liam has a backbone and isn't afraid to speak his mind, even to an adult in public, with a decent chance that Liam was ready to fight the dad to defend Mike.

You are absolutely right, too many open questions still... Your comment, one sentence actually (Mike is very lucky) has been a trigger for me to (over)think further. Liam is very nice and gentle...and whatever...in their personal communication. I would like to see him when real challenges occur. Not just about coming out whether yes or no, but will he stand up by Mike in front of family and friends? That was my question, not judgement.

I think you're over thinking my comment, and we also don't know that Liam is in the closet. We're getting everything from Mike's point of view and he's an unreliable narrator. He's very oblivious, poor at reading people--especially Liam--poor at reading situations, and over analyzes situations, while being completely off the mark and blowing situations out of proportion. There are plenty of examples starting in the first chapter to support that we can't take Mike at his word, so we actually don't know for certain what the real cause of him moving or the true extent of the bullying was. As for Liam, we've all guessed that Olivia wasn't his girlfriend, that she knows that Liam is into Mike, that the date at the mall was a double date coupling Mike & Liam and Olivia & Abi, and as stated in this chapter, Liam has been dropping hints that Mike hasn't been picking up, such as Liam telling Mike he has a nice cock. There's also no evidence one way or the other to assume that Liam's parents don't know he's gay; in fact, it could be one the "secrets" the twins threatened him with, that Liam himself said wouldn't work on him. Mike is far more likely to be too wrapped up in his own head to even notice that Liam isn't in the closet. And so what if Liam is? It doesn't mean that he has to come out to the whole of society now that he's with Mike. Mike hasn't come out, either. They could keep everything to themselves, come out to a few trusting people in their lives until they find a community that'll support them and their relationship. Again, my comment was just about the relationship between Mike and Liam, particularly since they started having sex, and how lucky Mike was to find someone who wants to look out for him and still tickle that kink that Mike seems to really like.

Comsie’s passing is truly saddening. My deepest condolences to his family and friends and his fans . I found GA about 6 years ago and New Kid was the first story I read and since I have probably read it 9 or so times since. I’ll be honest, I check GA every day awaiting new updates from any of his wonderful stories. He truly had a gift. One that I will truly miss. Not only did I enjoy him as an author but also somewhat as a shepherd, educating those who struggled to love themselves or be ok with who they are while sharing the ordeals of dealing with rejection, hate or intolerance. I am quite sure that thru his works as well as all of you who have contributed to this outlet for readers has saved many from making the inevitable mistake of taking the easy way out. For that we are all grateful for your endless efforts. Leaving the reader hanging with Linda and Baby Rambo, as well as despicable Maddox and his assault on Troy, builds the desired suspense for sure. My feelings exactly, @spike382. The stories are one thing, but I think anyone who got to know him beyond the stories will miss him as a person even more. I loved seeing him getting so excited about the new Marvel movie he just saw, or a new gay teen romance on TV, or gushing over his latest celebrity crush. He had that infectious energy that brought joy to everyone, even someone as bitter and cynical as me. You had to try really hard for him not to treat you as a friend. Wonderful guy, one of a kind, I'm so glad I worked up the courage to send him that first email all those years ago.

The spice rack full of nuances redeems my kitchen, I hope. There’s a common experience with having a crush, yet being to bashful to do anything about it; I’ve been there many times. I’m glad you liked the four aphorisms, which were fun to write. Thank you very much for reading these and for sharing your kind thoughts.

@MrM That's the thing. I understand wanting endings and closure on the stories, but I also don't know who could do his style justice. But if Comsie went up to you and said "Hey, MrM, I love the work you're doing on Brandon Smiling, it's a really great fit. Here are all my drafts and outlines for the Billy Chase series, if anything happens to me you have my permission to pick up where I left off and finish the story," then that's all I need to be okay with you finishing his novel if you chose to do so. I will forever miss Comsie's style and I doubt anyone could ever imitate it, but I'd probably be fine with Comsie-approved authors trying to complete his work in their own style, maybe as a separate story to keep Comsie's work intact. It's a very touchy subject and everyone has their own opinions.

I don’t have proper words, Comsie was just an incredibly sweet person. He had passion for his stories, and he was extremely appreciative of anyone who read and commented on them. I talked with him casually on and off on his message board, and there were a few email exchanges over the years. I discovered Comsie’s writing about 20 years ago, and read his stuff off and on, and his stories are the sole reason I made my way to GA. I’m sad that I’ll never see the end of stories that I was following for years. I’m sad I’ll never see a new Comsie chapter posted that I can read and react to. I’m sad I’ll never get to exchange some banter about some new movie, or tv show, or cute guy, or whatever, with him. I can honestly say he changed my life, and helped me become more accepting of who I am at a very confusing time. RIP Comsie.

In case any one is interested, I just republished the original unfinished version of LOF. Despite being extremely flawed in the grammar and family blending departments, in my opinion, it had a lot of heart and emotional depth.

You absolutely should. @Comicality fully supported FanFictions of his worlds. He was always encouraging us to write with our hearts. By all means, keep doing so in his honor.
