  1. Brandon helped Jaxon lift one of Brutus’ pumps back into place. They had removed all three from the truck and repairs were completed on the first. It took some effort for the pair to maneuver the heavy equipment into the confined space where it needed to go. Accepting a wrench from Jax, the American dutifully followed instructions from his friend, as they reinstalled it. “We’ll turn you into a full-fledged spanner monkey by the time you head home.” “I’m not sure about that.” Brandon wiped an arm across his sweaty brow. “I know enough to help fix minor stuff on the trucks we have at t

  2. As I sit in my beach chair watching Bobby and Ann’s children playing in the surf, I realize that I have had a full and interesting life. I had a family of pick-ups, that is what Noah called them. I have seen the children grow up, Carlito is now Carlo and he just graduated from college. Rosa had two more children, a beautiful young lady who is turning heads at her school and Jose who reminds me of his brother. They have become a part of my extended family. Oh, Uncle Mark met his justice, he met a man in Europe who puts up with no-nonsense. They got married in Holland, and from what Bobby’s moth

  3. Dinner was unremarkable. My sister wasn't speaking to me, but I talked to my folks. Dad was really concerned that Luca was going to live on his own. Who was going to make sure he got an education? His parents might compete to send him to a school, but who would make sure he went and did his work? Nagging about things like this was how my father showed his love – it was the most smothering kind of love I know. “Dad says you want to go register for school?” my mom asked. “Yep. Luca and I were talking today. I think he'll go with me.” “That's good. You both can study here

  4. Since when does your sister fly a plane? Sean wrote in the notebook we were using in the back seat of the twin-engine turboprop. Sean sat in the middle of the back seat, and Mom was asleep on his left side. My sister was in the right-side co-pilot’s seat, and had actually done most of the flying since we’d left Los Angeles airspace. She got interested in planes after visiting the Smithsonian during the President’s inauguration in 1981. I wrote back and he snorted, earning a look from my father in the small rear-view mirror. It makes me nervous. He wrote next and I smiled at the t

Whether it’s learning new things or just the satisfaction of helping someone grow and advance their career. — Employee Handbook: Mentoring Sometimes my sister drives me nuts. Andrea always knew how to push my buttons, and it seemed like there would be no respite on this visit. Yet her declaration that Jonah wasn’t 24 confused me more than upset me. What did she mean? Was Andrea saying Jonah was younger or older than 24? Did she know

  7. Someone once said if you want to hide something, place it where everyone can see it. With that in mind, I design a lapel pin and a tie pin, the motto was I Spy. Directly below the motto was an eye, which was the camera. When I finished with a prototype, I showed it to Bobby. “What do you think?” “That is cool but why I spy, you aren’t a spy. I don’t see the connection?” “When I wear this, the eye being a camera, will spy on whoever is in front of me.” “Clever, but doesn’t it take some sort of power to operate the camera?” “Yes, this will power the camera. March 26, 1801 The Winter Palace St. Petersburg, Russia As Granger got out of the vozok, he noted that while the temperatures were still frigid by British standards, the weather was not as cold as it had been. Not only that, but Granger was arriving at 5:00 in the evening, and it was still light outside. Spring was due to make its debut, and when that happened, the Royal Navy would begin its assault on the Danish fleet. Granger had not gotten any indication that the new Tsar would change Russia’s course and try to repair the rift with Britain, but that had been imp

I gathered my books and walked to the principal’s office. I’m not sure why but junior and senior classes were on the second and third floor. Offices are at the front on the first floor along with the cafeteria. AP classes are on the third floor and of course, that is where I was when the summons came. “Miss Leggit, I was called to see Mr. Colton.” “I’m sorry Adam, he was just called home for an emergency. 10. Zeke turns up back at the shed, hoping Tyler wouldn't have gone too far from his last location. He blares the car horn to let Tyler to know he was there. He figured even if Tyler was a distance away he’d hear it, and if he was smarter than he was afraid, he’d come to see where the noise was coming from. People trying to kill you tend to not want you to know they are coming, so a horn seemed like an easy way to let him know that he was not someone trying to threaten or hurt him. Zeke knew there was a risk of course, that he might be bringing attention to himself from someone else looking for Ty

New leaves drip at dawn while grey clouds hug the hillsides, disguising the rain. ~~~ One wary chipmunk keeps watch from a mossy log, perched like a furred bird. ~~~ Long-spurred violets bloom amongst the wild onions speckling them with white. ~~~ Catbirds sing off-key, tuning up while awaiting the warblers’ return. ~~~ A tiny brown toad struggles over blades of grass, surfing the green sea.

  12. Ah damn, I never thought about another elemental pushing the fire forward and making it worse... Couldn't be lucky enough that there was just the one could we? Great writing and pacing on this chapter. Flowed really well, the banter was first rate. Sounds like what you would expect being around a bunch of males without time down for sex... Can't wait to see what the others make of a new elemental being in play...

  13. So an elemental has been fueling the fire. The big question is why? A desire to propagate species of plant that needs a burn to flourish? Seems like small controlled burns would work better. Had she lost her mind? Hard to interrogate a pile of ash.

  20. Thanks for the distraction. Spent the morning dealing with offshore customer service reps I barely understood, and I'm ready to kill somebody. How accurate are the downtime conversations? The sexual banter I assume you expand for the story, but I'm wondering how much really goes on. As for the woman and Brandon being burnt, Ethan better be able to fix him and tell us who she was. My heart rate's going to take a bit to return to normal.

We had pork chops, and she had rice, while I had Brussels sprouts. We watched The Wizard of Oz and talked to my brother on the phone. Today, I have to run some errands and I also have a doctor appointment. Fun times.

  24. Happy Monday, all! Another wet day here in the northwest of Ireland, so I won't be doing a lot of work in the garden. The week's not promised all that good, either, although I'm hopeful thing's will at least be a bit better than the weekend was. The good news is that quite a number of pandemic restrictions are being lifted today, including inter-county travel, the partial reopening of non-essential retail (click-and-collect from today, full reopening from next Monday), reopening of museums, art galleries, and other cultural attractions, and libraries will be allowed to lend books

There’s nothing better than getting organized in your workplace; pulling out those often unseen parts, giving them a good hard cleaning, draining any fluids, and then sorting them for proper stowage and quick access when needed again; and some parts need frequent inspection and cleaning to ensure proper operation. They have a good plan on the automotive parts too! 😝

Imagine Vanessa Carlton at a poetry reading where everyone’s on ecstasy. The lobby clerk laughed as Matt shuffled his way across. What could he say? It had been a good week. Scratch that, a good month. He didn’t care how geeky it made him look; he was having so much fun learning the ropes from Roberta. Matt was incredibly nervous the first day. The fear of sounding dumb had stopped him from giving input. Roberta noticed almost immediately and put a st

  32. Need me to release the wolves on anyone? Downtime conversations tend to go all over the place. All depends on how much energy or emotional energy the people have to talk. Just like in Cadets, there can be a lot of sexual banter at times. More so when the team is familiar with one another. Caution is used around outsiders and especially when women are present. Among the US crews I've heard plenty of jokes wishing a fag or two was around to take care of things. I usually raise my hand and say, "there is one here, but he's not desperate." The guys in Australia tended to be fun and chatty. If they

We made a mid-afternoon coffee run to Starbuck's. Dinner was shrimp burgers. The recipe makes enough to have temp twice hence tonight's Shrimp Day celebration.

Her final goal is to resign from her office job for that new chapter in her life. She says it's already doing pretty well, word of mouth spreading fast with people talking about making it a regular thing (her last 3 Saturday were booked solid and she made a buy 10 get 1 free cards). 44. David Jones, Sr., has proven to be an able communicator who is adaptable and willing to evolve his viewpoints with knowledge and experience. Additionally, by bringing Jeremy into the family, he proves to be compassionate. (Davey and the gang welcome Jeremy with open arms, but he would not be there at all excepting for the good will of David and Sandy.) David's character--in getting a job for a man who doesn't like him; in accepting Davey and Brian's relationship despite his religious beliefs; and in giving a home to a boy with a stigma, not to mention the equivalent of a terminal illness--sh

To be fourteen and living under a death sentence from two intersecting twists of fate is horrible, not to mention being rejected by his family. If anyone can make it better, it's Davey.

Not that he hadn’t performed in front of a large audience before - we all had; this was a school for the performing arts, after all - but today was different. Today he was addressing his peers, his friends, his family and all who had made this day possible. He might not have had to deal with all the shit I’ve faced in the last few years, but he’s dealt with far more than most seventeen-year-olds. Although still a minor, today he would address us as a man about to enter the adult world - as the first among his peers.

They’d agreed to meet up at a bowling alley, the idea spurred along by some bitter recollection of a happy family moment. Something they both enjoyed. That was the idea, at least. For the moment, they were seated in the alley’s diner, a partially walled off space within the rest of the larger complex, differentiated only by a slightly stronger smell of grease. Plastic tables, plastic tablecloths; some acne covered teenager manning the snack counter, looking just as enthused as Casper felt;
