You're not wrong. I wanted to explore what it might be like inside the head of someone who would do something like this... Seems to me that most people who commit violent acts are just regular people with serious issues. That doesn't mean I'm excusing his actions.

It was with mingled excitement and trepidation that I went to school Monday morning. I went through my morning lessons in a daze, nothing but PE on my mind. At least, that’s what I told myself. In truth, the reason for my mental state sat in front of me in Mr. Hassan’s Core Sciences class, and I tried my hardest not to stare at the nape of his neck as he bent over the desk to scribble in his notebook. I didn’t look, and I didn’t care. Just as I hadn’t looked and hadn’t cared all Thursday and Fr

What Makes You Want To Replay A Game Over And Over Again?
Thorn Wilde replied to Lux Apollo's topic in The Lounge
I'm getting a new gaming PC tomorrow, so I'll definitely be getting that remaster. It's supposed to be free off Steam for the PC if you've bought Skyrim with all DLC or Legendary edition before. -
Even when you don't have a ton to say, you still manage to say a lot. Julie's mum is pretty complicated. It's not easy being a single mum. I grew up with one, and she only had me to think about. Julie's mum has two kids. And when you've lost someone, like she has, it becomes all the more important to protect those closest to you.

Amy means well. She's just a bit, well, fifteen.

Luke Cage is originally a comic book superhero, but Marvel and Netflix's combined effort Jessica Jones series is live action, and Mike Colter who plays Luke Cage is seriously hot. The character is getting his own series that's due to premiere on Netflix at the end of September. This article features a photo, and the trailer for the upcoming series: http://imwithgeek.com/index.php/2016/08/10/what-to-expect-from-luke-cage/

‘So!’ Deacon turned to me, rubbing his hands together. ‘What would you like to see? We have all the glory of uncensored Netflix spread out before us!’ I laughed. ‘I don’t know . . . I don’t even know what’s there.’ ‘Orange Is the New Black?’ Amy suggested, and the others all laughed. ‘Let’s not traumatise the poor girl,’ said Deacon. ‘You were talking about Jessica Jones, weren’t you?’ said Michael. He looked a bit tired, stretched out on one of the sofas, but neither he nor any of the othe

Yeah, Michael's family won't really be a problem. They're good people. I quite like Jasper. Maybe he'll get a bigger role in the story at some point.

What Makes You Want To Replay A Game Over And Over Again?
Thorn Wilde replied to Lux Apollo's topic in The Lounge
Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Skyrim are games I keep restarting over and over with new characters. With the first two, even if you've done everything there's usually another way to do everything you've done, a different alignment to play, different choices to make, and not to mention different NPCs to romance. With Skyrim you have a bit of that as well, but in addition I keep modding my game, giving me new quests to complete, NPCs to meet, and places to explore. Try as I might, I can't get sick of it for long... -
Pokemon Go: Can You Catch'em All Before You Go Broke
Thorn Wilde replied to W_L's topic in The Lounge
I play Pokemon Go when I go running. There's a lake nearby with good trails around it, and there's loads of pokemon around there. -
I believe it's been hinted at that Daniel's former stepfather wasn't what you might call a great guy. This combined with the break-up hit his mum pretty hard. She doesn't handle being alone very well, either. There will be more on this later on in the story. Jules is a badass. She doesn't take shit from anybody. Still, she has her own insecurities, which will also be explored further later on.

Michael's friends are indeed pretty awesome. Many of my readers seem to dislike Amy, though.

Depending on definition, what Loz did was certainly rape, yes. At this point in the story, though, neither he nor Daniel understand that. To Daniel, rape is something men do to women. And Loz doesn't understand that sexual coercion is a kind of assault, nor does he have the capacity to care.

Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying the story! I always appreciate your reviews. I see you figured out the thing with Julie and Daniel being the year below Michael, but in order to preempt any future confusion, here's a quick explanation of the British school system: In England, children start school at the age of 5. That's year 1, and you have to be 5 years old before the start of the school year. This means that if school starts on September 1st and your birthday is September 2nd, you probably don't get to start school until the following year. When you start year 10, which is the year Julie, Loz and Daniel are in, you have to be 14, but you can be nearly 15. At this point in the story, Loz is already 15, because his birthday is in October. Michael's birthday is in November, so he's nearly 16. Daniel's birthday is in August, so he'll be 14 the entire school year. Julie will be 15 in the spring.

Thank you! And thanks for reading.

Whether one says lunch/dinner or dinner/tea is actually dependent on a number of factors such as location, origin and class. Working class folks are more likely to say dinner/tea, while middle class people are more likely to say lunch/dinner, and people from the north are more likely to say dinner/tea than people from the south. It's all deeply confusing.

You'll get more Amy in the next chapter. Perhaps it will give you some more insight into her character.

I think Michael imagines more drama surrounding his potential coming out than there really would be.

Trev’s party was the most epic affair. The booze flowed like water, people smoked pot outside, the bedrooms were occupied by couples getting it on (sometimes more than one couple per room), and bass heavy tunes pumped through every room of the flat. I was miles away, though, a million things occupying my mind. I would be sixteen soon, my parents were going to Africa in a week and were staying away for nearly two whole months, and, oh yeah, I had inadvertently come out to my sister yesterday. It

It was never meant as an excuse, but as an explanation. What Loz is doing to Daniel is wrong, but until he figures out for himself why it's wrong (because he's forcing him, not because Daniel is a boy), he'll live with the shame and continue doing it.
-
It's easy to fall into the trap of portraying a homophobic family as evil, abusive people. That's a cliche I wanted to avoid.
-
Indeed. Loz's situation is no excuse for what he's doing.

Thank you! Glad you liked it.

I slammed the door to the bedroom I shared with my brother Darren shut and began pacing up and down between my bed and the wardrobe. I felt like I couldn’t breathe and took several large gulps of air. It didn’t help. I hadn’t planned it. I hadn’t planned any of it. Not what had happened in the shower the day before, or what had just happened in the bathroom. Of course I hadn’t planned it. I wasn’t queer! I really wasn’t. I couldn’t be. The previous day, I had gone back to the changing rooms to

What kid who struggles with shame around his own sexuality has the mental strength needed to come forward as a victim of sexual abuse? If only it were so simple. I am simultaneously sorry and thrilled that you found the chapter hard to read. It's not supposed to be easy to deal with stuff like this, and it is meant to make you uncomfortable. Thank you for continuing to read in spite of it. After the next chapter there will be a couple of chapters' reprieve from all this.
