You just like it when CJ tees off on idiots. Speaking of teeing off, next chapter CJ I tried to differentiate how CJ dealt with an older individual and someone even younger than him. His admission he was at one point as naive as Jen, means he's sufficiently self-aware to recognize he can be forceful at times and needs to rein in his aggression. We'll see a bit more of him trashing someone, then admitting he might have gone too far. With age comes wisdom as long as he's willing to admit mistakes and learn from them.

Unsure of where his expectations came from—maybe an old movie or TV show—what they encountered when the shuttle dropped them off was far from what CJ envisioned. He had imagined a sandy beach, a bonfire, and coolers full of beer. Maybe a couple of Labradors or Golden Retrievers running around, chasing a ball or a Frisbee. He had not bothered to figure out the cooking part. Instead, they were confronted by a sanitized, upscale version of what his mind conjured. While Owen went to the bar—a

I guess because of my previous searches, this showed up on my Google feed. They need someone to step up and give them a million or so. Taylor? Taylor Swift? Dont you own a mansion in Rhode Island?- 3,873 replies

Richard's death saddens me. He read my stories religiously, and I enjoyed our exchanges in the comment section and later in private messages. He last visited my profile page last Friday (maybe the one before.) It was a ritual whenever I posted anything. He preferred to read complete stories and as soon as I posted a chapter with The End at the bottom of the page, his reactions were swift. A minor one, but that was one of the reasons I've concentrated on shorter stories lately. He and Will Hawkins in Brazil--who hasn't been around for a while and I fear has passed--followed the same approach and made me smile frequently. You shall be missed, Ancient Richard. Thanks for sharing the information @northie

CJ By Carlos Hazday - Series Discussion

Take a look at my response to Frosie. But you're right. He plays for fun (like CJ played intramural basketball in college) even though he could fit in the pitch with his team. I can't wait to have him and CJ get beat up when they decide to practice with Old Glory for the fun of it.- 3,873 replies

CJ By Carlos Hazday - Series Discussion

I got lucky when I picked those two actors to represent my MCs. They don't fit my descriptions exactly (CJ's hairier and Owen's smoother) but otherwise they're close. Owen (and the actor) are 6' 2" and weighs in about 200lbs. CJ's 2 inches shorter and ways the same. I think the picture tracks since CJ looks bulkier. You made me google this stuff yesterday. The average height for professional rugby players is 6' 2", so Owen fits right in, but he weighs some 20 pounds less than average. There are players shorter and lighter than him. It all depends on what position they play.- 3,873 replies

Yep. I think the mountain on the right's the one with the giant statue of Christ at the summit.

I never knew that line was in until I watched the video. Although the song refers to the New York City club (the hottest club north of Havana,) I read it was inspired by Copacabana Beach in Rio. Obviously just the name.

LMAO, the clambake will be interesting. CJ and Owen interact with a military big shot, and CJ winds up being the center of attention again. Somebody remind me not to invite him to anything I don't want to be upstaged at.

We saw flashes of Spike's fun side in Mexico, but you're right, it was mostly business. I think, as a good intelligence officer, he'll adap to the circumstances and act accordingly. Considering he's been an influence on CJ since our man was a teen, I suspect some of his ways will rub off on CJ. Fascinated with your perception of the relationships. I tried to show CJ and Owen being the youngest out of the four couples, but the most settled. Paul and Molly are about to start their lives together, and Dave and Steph have been together for years but she laments they don't have a family yet. Tess and Jay are obviously at the other end of the spectrum. They've been having issues for a while and are probably headed to divorce court.

@frosenblum I'll see your Kinks and raise you a Manilow. This is what plays in my mind when I think of CJ's Sig.
-
Glad you liked that. Although I cover significant issues that will affect CJ's future, I felt the wedding of a young couple should be fun.

Dad joke! Sounds like something Brett would say.
-
When CJ shouted at Paul "...we know people," he wasn't lying. I wonder if either Spike or CJ are carrying?

And we still have more happening later in the evening! So what was it that had you confused when you read at lunch time?

Speaking of that threesome, I didn't read the article, but there was a blurb on my feed the past couple of days about a Reyes Magos parade somewhere in Spain. Seems one of the actors portraying one of the three used blackface and caused a stir. I'm so glad we in the US aren't the only ones with that type of controversy. A top tier reporter lost her job a few years ago when she said she didn't see anything wrong with the practice. Stupidity in the face of changing attitudes.

Yeah... about that trip to Cuba. It'll be the subject of a few more conversations until it actually happens. I jumped ahead and wrote the prologue to that and the opening scene of the first chapter already. I mean, what could go wrong at a welcome reception or while stopping at La Bodeguita del Medio for lunch? Then again, this is CJ we're talking about.
-
I'll be adding to that experience soon! And Owen's mother will be in the middle of it with her foot firmly planted in her mouth.
-
I'm sure CJ and Owen will make at least a token donation. LOL

I'm looking forward to CJ's confirmation hearings when he gets appointed as our man in Havana. Think about it, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio both sit on it. So does Rand Paul. On the other side, the chairman's Bob Menendez, another Cuban-American, and Tim Kaine will remember him from when he ran as Clinton's VP in 2016. The possibility of entertaining mayhem is real..

Yeah... I think I'd rather hand out with a bunch of twenty-something jocks than Depp'screw. I mean, rowers have nice big shoulders. LOL

Whenever a chapter exceed 5k words, it's a candidate for splitting.

Next time, and in every chapter, we'll get to hear a bit more about Fanning and how he alienates his family and everyone else. Some of that was inspired by how relatives of January 6, 2021 insurrectionist turned them in to the FBI. And we might get a mention of Bela Lugosi in the middle of it all. LOL

Take a look at my previous comment. This story's one of the puzzle pieces about their summer. Between Mexico and CJ returning to school, they have some 3 months to return to a 'normal' life. Of course, their normal's nothing like mine would be. I often try to put them in situations I'll never be in.

I had to break the Friday chapter in two because it was too long. Coming up's the day's second half. Clambake! The altercation with Fanning will be a recurring topic of conversation over the weekend, but it'll be joined by a new one. Last article I read, they do plan to rebuild the collapsed portion and are raising money for the project.
