Chapter 8 - Going Commando

Well , when that lawyer is reading purely for pleasure .... what’s there to worry about, it’s a compelling tale . -
Chapter 8 - Going Commando
deville commented on Mrsgnomie's story chapter in Chapter 8 - Going Commando
Just to set the record straight , I’m an attorney , who specializes in Divorce, once we’ve advised our clients of their legal rights we become wholly creatures of instruction . What people will do and fight about can still astound me 23 years down the line. That said ...... Lee is a manipulative , lying , cunning shyster , so Nash would be well informed to act quickly if he wants to see any fruits from his poisoned marriage. Its good to see him immerse himself in friends and not dwell too hard on his circumstances. True friends don’t let you dwell or add unnecessary fuel to the fire. (PS the lawyer in me would still let Lee get fired , in fact I’d insist on it ..... or no more hiring lunches. ) -
Chapter 6 - Trying to Cope
deville commented on Mrsgnomie's story chapter in Chapter 6 - Trying to Cope
Well despite the initial stupidity of agreeing to Lee's preposterous suggestion of 6 months counseling , it appears the scales have fallen from Nash’s eyes , he is seeing Lee for what he really is . It doesn’t make the pain or betrayal any less but it does allow him to hit the grieving milestones head-on . -
Chapter 5 - The New House is No Home
deville commented on Mrsgnomie's story chapter in Chapter 5 - The New House is No Home
After 17 years , I imagine untangling your emotions is hard enough , never mind a life of merged possessions , but Lee is untrustworthy and it seems quite manipulative . Lee has a great deal to lose if his infidelity comes out without the cushion of a lengthy separation , not least of all being his work. Lee’s senior partner after all made it clear he prefers Nash. -
I empathise with Nash and his inability to tarnish or destroy Lee’s hero- worship , but how do you not deal with something like that? When it comes out it could be seriously toxic. I really believe in communication first and foremost . I would blurt it out and then deal with the consequences. Having said that , I concur with the other readers , the Knotts know something .... or maybe they just don’t like Lee and his sycophantic behavior?
-
I am beginning to feel Nash’s reticence when it comes to socializing with the Knotts and his distance just seems to make Ryan more determined . Penn’s behavior is also just odd. Don’t quite know what to think so I’ll keep reading.

I really enjoyed the way your first chapter grounds the reader in your characters , their livelihoods and environment .
-
There is a subtle balance of permanence vs impermanence which flows through all three works . I found them all quite compelling.
-
Yes it worked! Although the tone of the narrative is positive , whilst reading one is left with a nagging suspicion that the protagonist is in fact experiencing a ‘conversion’ , and finally at the end you are party to his affirmation.
-
Well , if this wasn’t unnerving , thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable .... a fitting companion piece to ‘ n counters’ , the darker side of the company! I’ve always felt that Dracula would be a man of discernment and taste!
-
An unusual and interesting read. Great fun too! Who would believe online gamers pulling a fast one over the Count! ? Quite believably that is! I enjoyed the manner in which the format made the reader slow down and really pay attention.
-
Clever.... subtle . I liked the manner in which the evening and Sam’s perception are tinged with the magic of the fairy tale .... where anything could happen .... or not!
-
Beautifully written, a slice of a life redolent with love , experience and a deep understanding of the other party. Complete in itself , we already know Duncan and Brad , understand their dynamic and relationship. Getting more , however, would be the ‘writing ‘on the cake .

Eric is a character of epic proportions , quietly so, whose story unfolds a little gruffly but undoubtedly joyously in the two volumes available to date. You’re doing yourself a grave disservice if you don’t even attempt to come to terms with Eric , his world and his courage.

A fantastic second installment .... all told . Left with sufficient titillation to want you to keep at it. I will wait patiently to enjoy Eric’s further adventures in future. A heartwarming final chapter!
-
I got the impression that Eric was quietly pleased that he had extended himself to going ahead and doing the interview . Despite his innate reticence , I feel that he will gruffly weather any inquisitiveness and manage to keep the news hounds at bay. I empathise with Adam , Pride in the end was always a bitter -sweet experience for me. It is now just an excuse to party and the route is a truncated amble through affluent suburbia which has no focus or impact.
-
For someone not used to being on the receiving end of life , Eric really is being inundated with gifts and kindnesses. I believe Croome Park has just become more special to the boys. The painting will also serve as a reminder for them in future .
-
Eric’s quiet navigation of a venue and event , that he never would have considered some months ago , is a testament to his courage and his trust in the boys. Computers, dining out , touring , cooking recipes and Pride I’m sure Eric hardly recognizes himself at times .
-
Gosh , I’m probably more frustrated with the boys than anything else! My reaction would be to meet Felicity and tell her I’d noticed her bruising and that an explanation would be appreciated because I loved and cared for her. Probably why N never lets me deal with sensitive issues! I suppose they’re right to play it by ear....... Although I completely understand Eric’s need to plant his treasures , Earth and arthritis really do not get along , so a set of tools is imperative. Good thing he has Andy and a well developed sense of thriftiness .
-
I can imagine the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction Eric must feel as he views his purchases and recounts his experiences ..... all done without recourse to a bank card. Content and tired seems to be the order of the evening for both Eric and the boys . Nothing quite like a well executed outing or an extended romp to make life a little more unique. We get both in one chapter ! Lucky us. Though I suspect the boys evening is about to take a somber turning.
-
Isn’t it fantastic that all’s well that ends well with Eric’s outbound journey. The kindness of strangers struck me as particularly relevant, we get none of that , people look straight through you as if you don’t exist . Is seeing Rob serendipitous ? I know , author, . I am not sure waiting on the Felicity issue is a good thing , I’m more of a rip the band aid off , deal with it , then get on with life. I can however see the appeal in a bit of fun before the storm approach !
-
Eric heading out on his own and discussing his outing with Andy seems to be quite a gift if Andy’s reaction is noted. I’m glad Eric was pleased with his video debut with the way he’s expanding to fill his changing world he’s sure to be successful as a ‘poster -boy’ Andy’s pretty shrewd and already suspicious , I hope the boys do something quickly.
-
I love Eric’s pride , his sense of self worth the absolute certainty that anyone and everyone should be able to live within their means. Also his candid and sincere recognition of the benefit wrapped in his association with Andy and subsequently Adam. How his world has expanded and his boundaries become less rigid. Im not sure that he was intimidated by Claire , more wary of her innate sense of what people would need and her general application of that sense across the board. I feel this rubbed up wrongly against Eric’s pride.

I find that so much of society today’s attention is dragged towards the youth , the children , their needs , their developement that the aged are relegated to an almost forgotten position on our attention radar. Many people don’t SEE the elderly and so they don’t exist. I have recently come to experience that the routines , money conscientiousness and caution shown by the elderly are valid . There is very often no access to better and increased finances and what they do have is finite. Andy and his organization must be a silver lining for Eric , whilst being overwhelming at the same time. Eric really has progressed if he can accept an early birthday present with no protest at all.
-
I feel that Eric is coming more easily to terms with the fact that Andy , despite his youth, is quite accomplished at many things that Eric learned by hard work gaining experience. It’s not just friendship but an ever growing respect . Even though he still finds it hard that the boys would do something , a film evening , just for him and just because they can. I feel that the depths of his loneliness must have been quite crippling. I hope Adam , Andy or anyone notices the abuse that Felicity endures. There are a different set of values that govern the older generation and many an action we would take without thought is for them inconceivable .
