  1. If you're interested, visit Never Too Late's story discussion thread for a teaser from the upcoming third volume. 👀😉 The story'll start posting in the second half of September.

  2. Revisiting my earliest monologues after adding a new one, I'm astounded still at what I managed so early on in my writing journey. 'Barred' in particular is a favourite. And it serves to remind us Pride is here for a reason.  🌈🏳️‍🌈

  3. Anyone else looking to write a Pride short? 🏳️‍🌈  Should be fun (assuming I can keep myself to the word limit). 🙄 If you don't know what I'm talking about, try this:

  4. Congratulations on another magnificent story, dear friend. I hope you too receive a standing ovation. Bravo!  🥰

  5. Hi Val. Just came across this image in a tweet.  Couldn't resist...  😉 😄

How'd you get a picture of me as a kid?

  6. Don't think I've ever been so happy to receive a hair appointment reminder. Only four and a half months since the last (official) cut. Tomorrow, I get shorn.  😊

Uhm, well gee, now I feel guilty/fortunate. I've been getting regularly shorn for the last 10/11 months.

@northie I had actually let my hair grow for a few years and had it in a pony tail before the pandemic. Just before the first lockdown I had decided to go back to the short hair again, and got it it cut shorter, intending to decide on a style by the next cut. But the hairdressers were only open briefly in July and August, so it's looking very unkempt again now. :/

  7. I never attempt NaPoWriMo properly and last year, not at all. However this year, @Valkyrie's prompts struck a chord. Find my rusty attempts here: https://gayauthors.org/story/northie/re-verse/11 There may be more to follow... 🤨 😄

  9. Mourning the loss of a (off-site) writing friend to Motor Neurone Disease / ALS. This bastard, unremitting disease took my friend well before their time.  Let's hope research finds the reason / cure sooner rather than later.

  10. Happy Easter all!  Although I've nothing new to offer currently, you may want to take a look at the first chapter of Demonised. Revised and partially rewritten, I can say it's an altogether better read than it was. Humour, demons, and workplace satire - what more could you want?

  11. Having a surprising amount of fun reworking something written 4 years ago. The opening chapter of Demonised started out as a standalone prompt response. Loved it then; love it now. Keep thinking I'll rework all of it but something else always gets in the way. #awriterslife

Thanks, @dughlas. I'm reworking it with a view to posting on my blog. If I update the GA version, I'll let people know.

  12. Recently I've taken my courage in both hands and submitted some of my writing to external (online) magazines. To my astonishment, my first ever fiction submission was accepted. 😊

If you're a fan of historical writing, you might like this short which is set in Oscar Wilde's London. It's available on Sundial Magazine. You can find Inversion on its site. There's no charge or access provisions. Enjoy. If you have any comments or constructive criticism, I'd be happy to read them here on GA.

I liked the story! Very interesting and well researched. Though I kind of wish the footnotes had been listed at the end instead as they kept distracting me from the story itself and I lost my thread several times.

    3. northie

      northie

Thanks, @Thorn Wilde 😊 Yes, the two outer columns do act as footnotes but they also act as counter-narratives which is why they are placed as they are. I see them as later annotations to a pre-existing story. The story is best viewed on a tablet. The layout on a laptop doesn't work so well.

That might have had something to do with it, yeah. I was on my laptop.

  18. What's my listening choice at present? Something Christmassy perhaps? No, a dramatisation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. 🧛‍♂️🦇 One of my favourite books though I'm not into modern vampire tales.

I thought you might have had them temporarily for the Antho stories.

Nope.  Renee moves the stories to the anthology category, adds the banner, and publishes them when it's time for the antho to go live.  I run the proof team. :)

@Valkyrie Hah! I'm talking just into 4 figures. Genuinely. It's a kind of one scene job, so it'll be difficult to expand it far. Famous last words...  🙄

  21. It's one of those days when it's never going to get properly light. Where my miner's lamp?

Thank you for the kind words. Mike Arram's stories are brilliant, engaging and compulsive reading. I felt quite sad that I'd never be able to meet the characters.

  23. If you fancy something a little less gruesome for Halloween than yesterday's offering, you could always try this from last year:

  24. A Halloween story about ice cream? Nah...  🤨 Well, you might be surprised.  😄 😨

Having read the story I can congratulate you on a useful antidote to the optimism in most the the stories we like to read. As one of the many who enjoy a cosy happy ending, I'm still grateful for an occasional reminder that there are some very dark places in the world.

      I've recommended that story  :2thumbs:
