    Chapter 28

Thank you for taking the time to read. I'm still in shock at the reaction to my first major writing effort. The comments and reactions have beyond my wildest expectations. In finally setting the story here at home in South Africa, I was hoping to be able to give the reader a better insight into the country. The darker aspects like crime and corruption are very often all people see and hear about, and the beauty of country gets lost in all of that.  One positive thing is that South Afri

I saw your story listed as recomended on the GA newsletter and I can certainly see why. It had me hooked from the start. I see from the comments that I'm not the only one to get the mapping app out to look at the places you describe. Your words brought the area's to life. I could certainly picture the boat sailing across the sea with her sails out.

The other thing I really liked about the story was the gay aspect was front and center but we weren't subjected to the nitty gritty of who did what to whom.

Never having been to SA I wonder how real the acceptance of being gay in the story is. It makes it look mainly OK to be gay. - there will always be the ones that dont accept difference. Is this the reality ?

Now, stop reading the comments section and get back to book two. As you have read you have a lot of people out here waiting......

One positive thing is that South Africa has one of the most progressive constitutions with regard to gay rights. If I remember correctly, we were one of the very first countries to legalise same sexy marriages.  So yeah, the country is very gay friendly. Obviously it's not perfect, but it's better than some out there.

Davy,  thank you for your great comment. I am so pleased you enjoyed it.  If you do try any of the dishes please advise what you thought of them. Also, as I noted in a previous reply to a comment, I guess when one is writing about something you are passionate about, it comes across on the page. Please stand by for more fairly soon. Book 2 is coming along nicely. Still looking for a suitable title though.

Wow, Mr. Delport - just Wow!

I enjoyed this story on several different levels.

I loved your characters and you made them so real - even Rascal and the little ones.  You just simply allowed me as a reader to seem to know your characters as if I could pick up my Cell Phone and call one and say, "Hi!  It's me....."

Secondly - although I have been to Kenya, I know little of South Africa and you exposed us to so much Geography, many local customs and the Food - OMG - I opened a notepad file and started making notes to look up and try recipes.

Thirdly I am madly in love with yachts and sailing vessels - and you described not only the sailing of the Cat, but the operation of the large motor yacht with wonderful detail and great accuracy.

A zillion thanks to you for all your hard work that you so painfully put into "Never Walk Alone"!  All of us should be thankful to an author who is willing to work to give us such an enjoyable and readable story.

@Littlelovestories, I really hope you resolve this crisis quickly, because my heart and emotions will not cope with it being drawn out.   While Ryan has his issues, quite honestly I sometimes think Jasper is the one who needs more help. I feel it almost borders on abuse. Jasper is being incredibly selfish and self-absorbed. He has given absolutely no thought to the fact that Ryan is grieving too. And trying to be there for the man he loves as well. Only to be rejected and yelled at. AFAIAC  Jasper needs a swift kick in the butt (or maybe even the nuts). Ryan needs to stand his ground and maybe yell right back. He's allowing  Jasper to steamroller right over him.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now. That's what happens when one gets invested in a story.

    Chapter 19

Margaret has a problem we don't seem to know about yet, I think, apart from her obvious volatile temper. My heart goes out to Jason. He's been through so much already and still having to live with his muteness. Even the way Margaret was driving. Does she know that Jason is terrified or is she just being thoughtless?

Fully agree Chris. True,  he's lost his best friend and is grieving, but a lot of my sympathy lies with Ryan. He has been supporting Jasper as best as he knows how to help him through the crisis and all he gets is a kick in the teeth. Quite honestly,  Jasper is just being a self-centred dick who needs to get a grip and pull himself together. He is not the only one who has lost someone they love. I just hope he does nothing stupid that would put his and Ryan's relationship in jeopardy. Hang in th

Really pleased that you did some research. I commented in an earlier post that I had considered setting 'Never walk alone' in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, both of which I am quite familiar with. Obviously, I ultimately made the decision to set it right here at home in the hope that it would pique the readers interest. So thank you for your interest.

What a great story.  I followed along on Google maps and images the places referenced in your tale and felt like I have been on a world tour.  Your attention for detail in your storytelling is remarkable.  Keep up the great work!

Thank you for the great encouragement and compliments. I guess when one is writing about a subject (subjects) you are really passionate about, it comes through on the page.  As I explained elsewhere, the errors were occurring when I uploaded the chapter onto the site. What had been edited several times before uploading was not what I found when I read through it on the site. So I would have to go back and re-edit again. I will leave you at it – a very English statement, in America we might say 'I will leave you to it.'

4.30pm – I love the British way of expressing time, so much more a unit than American, 4:30 pm.

I find myself somewhat embarassed. I consider myself an author, but in this one story you have consistantly out-shown my poor talents. Time and again, I have seen small bits of excellence in authorship that I hope to be able to include in my writing at some future time. I am totally enjoying everything I am seeing and apparently you have overcome the tiny grammatical errors that peppered the earlier chapters.

Thank you Terry. Have you actually tried any of the dishes I wrote about? Pickled fish is traditionally prepared here in SA for Easter. It's great prepared 2 or even 3 days before eating to allow for all the flavours to develop. Try it. I promise you will not be disappointed.

An appropriate ending to a great story.  I don't know how many times I looked up what some of the food actually was as well as where some of the places were - I was so taken in by it.  Thank you, and I loook forward to Book 2.

We've been dealing with familial issues, on and off, for the past years. Along with Covid and Quarantine, more recently. However, as everything is beginning to settle out and calm down, Craftingmom should be getting back into the swing of writing and posting in the next couple of months. Please be patient with us, as we work on getting new chapters posted for y'all. Thank you for being understanding. If you have any questions, I will try my best to answer them.
