A short story for the November issue of Imagine Magazine! Enjoy!
This story was written as an addition to the Sanitaria Springs series of stories. Those are stories written by Dabeagle and other authors who he invited to contribute. They are about events in the lives of several teen boys who live in the fictional town of Sanitaria Springs in New York State. The stories are interwoven and this particular story picks up on a character first met in a story titled 'Without A Trace.'
I do not think it is essential to read that story before reading this tale as I believe there is sufficient 'back story' here to enable this one to stand alone, but feel free to do so.
Scott tormented Mark and Bobby unmercifully. Deciding they'd had enough, they sought revenge. In this sequel to Mark's Revenge, discover the events in Scott's early life that made him a bully. After the embarrassing 'revenge' at school, he is sent to live with an aunt and his cousins in Arkansas. Will he continue his bullying behavior in his new surroundings, or will he begin a new chapter in his life?
After a close friend of Mark's clues him in on the secret of underground vampire clubs in the city of Chicago, he finds himself invited into a world of late night parties and reckless abandon. But, despite being surrounded by creatures that feast on human blood to survive...it is the insatiable desire for the love of Mark's number one 'party boy' that frightens him most.
When a new boy arrives in the middle of the night in a small rural town in Ireland. A local boy takes interest in the new arrival. A bond will forever change and form between both, that has never been experienced nor thought of until the ball drops and someone finally makes a move. How will the boy's parents, friends, and love for each other come together to either work in their favor or wedge them apart?
"I’d thought of where our activities might lead; whether we’d simply do what we’d agreed on the spot and deal with the aftermath as it spun around in our minds and dried up on our clothes and skin, or if, perhaps, in the heat of the moment, Jack would want to take things a step further."
The lens of the camera is shallow. It sees colour and shape. It gives the illusion of motion in two dimensions. It draws the light from the dark. In that space between lens and subject, between picture and reality, lies solitude.
Jonah lived in that solitude, content within its embrace.
