Mukisa Okello, a refugee from Uganda meets Jack Hollingsworth, who's recently widowed, in an retirement complex. The encounters between the two men change their lives.

One summer well before the Bolshevik revolution, when Russia was a noble country, young Alexei, as was the custom of the time, left the city with his family, for the countryside.

It was a time of discovery, excitement, longing, and also sadness. A time in which he made new acquaintances and fought battles with himself, as the child he still was struggled free from many constraints into a world of dangerous possibilities.

Four friends travel east to welcome the rising sun. Each with their own problems and hardships, their friendship is the most valuable thing in their lives.

Oli Volkov is not particularly good at being a werewolf. He much prefers his quiet life on the outskirts of town, working freelance for an ad agency, and visiting home whenever he absolutely has to. But when his neighbour comes to him with an injured dog who is actually a wolf, Oli finds that his life is about to undergo some rather dramatic changes.

Adlai Ben Yusuf the son of a humble carpenter, grew up in the village of Nazareth in the troubled land called Palestine. With with his brother Tavi and cousin Cephas he enjoyed the usual escapades and misadventures of a normal teenage boy. Whereas Adlai was scholarly and introspective his brother Tavi was an extrovert. He was a warrior, an adventurer and a womaniser; trouble followed him relentlessly. Being popular and well-loved, he was his father Yusuf''s favourite. Then suddenly a simple mistake occurred which was to have tragic and far-reaching consequences; consequences that have endured to the present day.
