Will I or Won't I ... napowrimo 2018 - 2. Second Week

I rather like most of these. Hope something catches your eye.

April 8, 2018

Saw your picture just the other day

Memories flowed like a flood

Filled with you and favourite roses,

Clematis and luscious peonies

Nodding pansies and daffodils

The garden, your hideaway and retreat

Once you passed from our world

It flourished in your wake,

Till it was wild and overgrown

One day I picked the last of them

Laying them across your grave

Ode to a Missing Friend

Oh, delicious pizza with your well-done and thin, crispy crust
inhaling your divine and sweet perfume, oh I simply must

Then running my pizza cutter, I prepare to pick up a slice
with that triangle in my fingers, of biting I don't think twice

Each morsel I chew carefully, doting on each vegetable
Garlic, oregano and basil make this pie detectable

Because eating you, dear pizza, is now such a rarity
that I worship that square box, I say with all sincerity

I know the cost of a bite of your carbohydrate ridden shell
but there is no resisting your cheesy charms and delicious smell

Never mind my rising blood sugar, or poor tongue burned from the heat
nothing gives the same satisfaction as pizza with triple meat.

Daffy-dilly-dolly-dills
With nodding heads
on dresses green
Glowing sunshine
on the grayest day.

Friendship: In three forms.

Free verse:

I've learned that friend
is more than just a word
it's a love affair of sorts
that needs tending and
attention.

Tanka:

i have learned friendship
is much more than just a word
it's a love affair
though not between two lovers
but affable companions

Elfchen:

Friend

Confident, companion

Someone to trust

And to share with

you

I close my eyes and listen while the sun rises

Birds speak of their need with beautiful song

Their universal desire, a love and a mate

Time may be short; they build a home to share

Raise their chicks, feeding them until they leave

To live their own lives and too, to bring life forth

April 13, 2018

Was I born colour blind?
Is there something wrong with me?
All around me colours are bright
Do black birds hate the blue jay?

When I look into your eyes, I see only you.
Please, colour me human.

Can never do right for doin' wrong
you never give me a break
Callin' me every name in the book
walk away for pity's sake

I'm there for you when you need me
I listen to your woes
When it's my turn, when I need
You're a cold wind that blows

How wrong I am, I didn’t see
life isn't a gift for us all
we carry our pain, hidden inside
or wrapped around us like a shawl

You let me know when you're okay
I'll wait to hear from you
I'll crawl away, I know my place,
I'm someone you just outgrew.

A smorgasbord for the senses , each one , called upon to indulge in the imagery of your words. Sight , taste  , scent , touch and hearing ! Topped off with memory and emotion. Can’t pick one , or two or more ... each stands on its own , all so different.

Thank you for reading...there is a lot poetry around and i appreciate it.  I'm glad you could see and feel each of these...

Another excellent week of poems, my friend. I had to come back because a couple of these really hit home.

April 8th went right to the feels.

But that ode to Pizza... I'm wanting a slice of triple meat now.

April 14th... You've summed up what I've felt several times in my life.

14 came to me after a talk with my nephew ... wow, the last time i went to him ... this time, he can come back to me, yeah well 8 is about mum and her garden

I'm glad you like the Ode to Pizza.. i had fun and hunger pangs, writing it .. i do miss just ordering a pizza ...

This week is awesome. Each day you served up something for me to savor. April 14 really hit home to me. I was left gasping for air. April 11 was masterful; I will save this for my classroom door. Ode to a Missing Friend makes such tangible connections to both the reader and the person you recall. April 8 made me think of so many beautiful things remembered and treasured in the mind. Thank you for all these.

Thank you Parker.  I enjoyed writing last week. I'm glad there was so much variety. The most fun was Ode to Pizza... and oh, I so loved Dolores' poetry last week... it was inspiring. Thanks very much for hanging that on your classroom door. Thanks as well for reading.. xoxo

I love this collection tim. This week has a definite theme of reflection.

I love April 8th. We never lose that connection, or longing. That’s a bond that carries us through. I see those mental photographs all the time. You make her proud. Honoring her is loving her.

April 9th is funny and so relatable. I’d love a large carb lovers delight...

Well done this week. The challenge shows a definite I will. xo
