rima fragmenta, Fragments of a Rift: Fifty Sonnets for Kevin - 11. artistic license

.

Sonnet No. 21

Scattered sunlight forces through the teak blinds,

Animating your moves almost like film,

While your freshness seems like all of mankind’s

Before our clay was fired in God’s kiln.

My hands, at home enlaced about your neck,

With summer air stirring all around us,

Invites newness as we laze upon my deck;

My seat in your lap encountering no fuss.

Somewhat blinkered, I feel your forceful grip

Baking you in the wet-earth of my soul

With incessant rhythms that well equip

The passionate light you ever control.

Leading-man experience, or real life,

I’m your starlet to de-script every strife.

Sonnet No. 22

The cliché would say he sleeps like a rock,

But the truth is – he sleeps like an angel –

For when he released me from his lovelock,

He dozed and left me to be chronicle.

In dreams we often view reality

Through the mirrors of a better perfection,

Which when awake will seek finality,

Despite the quirks of our own reflection.

Yet, like a Shakespearean character

Worked in poured-alabaster flawlessness,

He’s touched by no one but his protector,

Given His divine and human caress.

To watch over him as he sleeps and nods

Grants artistic license to rival God's.

You do more than chronicle in these, you let us into your experience, to see with your eyes, and feel with your fingers.  In your words, we breathe the same air, watching and listening. These are more than recordings, for in these lines your beautiful memories become ours, too.
