Indian Summer

   (8 reviews)
IHForGA.jpg

Dallen's interest in nature and American Indian culture leads him on a series of adventures that will change his life forever.

The geography, geology, and cultural sites in this story exist, with minor modifications for plot purposes.  The historical backdrop of spiritual beliefs is also quite real, though the author has taken great liberties in how the characters employ them.  The story itself is pure fantasy.

The use of the term American Indian instead of Native American is deliberate.  The former is favored by The People themselves by a wide majority.  The latter is viewed as a government-created, politically-correct contrivance.

Warning:  Graphic content. This story includes consensual sex between minors, including mild experimentation with rough sex.

@Backwoods Boy takes us on a wonderful journey of self-discovery and growth as he introduces us to his characters. As is his skill with anything he writes, he draws you in from simply enjoying the story to caring about his characters. This is well worth the read and likely something you'll come back to many times.

Response from the author:

Thanks for your kind words, @WolfM.  I appreciate all of the encouragement and support you've provided over the past several years :)

A little ditty about Jack and Diane; oh wait, no it is about Dallen and Tocho.  LOL

This is a story first and foremost that is truly character driven.  The development of all the characters but especially the main ones are wonderfully expansive and so well done.  But almost more importantly, the secondary characters are equally well developed and, in some cases, truly shockingly so.

The mysticism in the story simply enhances the story; it doesn't detract from any part of it; but it is not so tied into the story that a lack of understanding on the cultural and religious aspects of the American Indians will keep you from enjoying the story.

Sit back and enjoy this delightful little tale as it starts what I hope will become the first of many stories in this genre by @Backwoods Boy

Response from the author:

Thanks very much for taking the time to review the story, Centex.  It has been a fun week interacting with readers, and I have appreciated all of your helpful comments.

This is another story that deserves seven stars.  However, the system will only let me give 5 stars, so that's what I'm giving.

As Dallen learns more about Native American culture and his Native American friends, he learns more of himself, as well.  He learns more of friendship, cultural and spiritual heritage, ancestry, and traditions (which are not always the same as culture).  At first his father is more supportive, but his mother catches up.

Not much to say of this story, except that is is a well-crafted, amazing and wonderful read, which give thrills, a few chills, at one point a spill down a hill, some drills as Dallen/Pahana is filled to the proverbial gills with more than just information.  His will to know is worth reading about.  Well done, @Backwoods Boy.

A wonderful story with so many insights and directions for your mind to ponder upon, as @Backwoods Boy's  excellent story telling ability leads you on a unique quest for greater understanding of a special boy, and his surprising new cultural experiences. I think this is a journey that you would enjoy, just as much as I and many other readers already have. Five well deserved stars from me.

You will be fascinated and educated by Dallen's journey into American Indian history and culture, He will be awakened and transformed in ways by American Indian and spirit guides he will understand fully by the end. He has special insights and abilities.  Dallen will meet his other half , Tocho. After they are challenged and grow closer, they happily realize they are going to be loving life partners. The adults in their lives support them.

You will feel satisfied and encouraged and want more as  the story ends.

Response from the author:

Thanks for your review, Scrubber, and thanks for your enthusiastic comments along the way :)

Ah. What to say about THIS one? It's easy to say its a story about discovery - it is. It's easy to say it's a story about love - it is. It's easy to say it's a story with magic and wonder - it is.

It's also a journey of the heart and mind, a learning of love and spirit. And it's a fascinating look at the ideas of a culture that have quite probably eluded many readers in their travels.

I mean, what could be better that that!? :)

Response from the author:

Thanks very much for your review, Geron.  The story came from my soul, and you seem to have looked therein and discovered what is there :)

Dallen is a young boy who is drawn to nature and has a strong interest in Native American customs and culture. This is his story of self-discovery after meeting a new friend Tocho, bonding with him and earning the Native American name of Pahana. Read and enjoy as you share in his journey. A recommended story worthy of the given rating and more.

Response from the author:

Thanks very much for taking the time to write a review, Craig, and thank you for going on the journey with me.

This is the wonderful story of Dallen, who has a huge interest in nature and Indian culture.

We follow his adventures as he meets new people, learns about nature, Indian culture and plenty more in his journey of a lifetime.

A beautiful coming of age story that comes highly recommended.

Response from the author:

Thanks very much for your review, Chris.  I appreciate your support and encouragement.
