Another Time - Prologue. World Information and Map

I might edit this chapter during the ride and add information :)

For some overview and orientation: a MAP. Yes, it's handdrawn, not very detailed etc, but the most important things are there.

The Republic

The Republic of Yorkwell is one of two countries on the continent of Vertmaar (Green Wide Land). It stretches from the east coast (Ghuerny Ocean) to the Amaranth Mountains (which divide the continent on north/south-axis), occupying slightly more than half of Vertmaar. In the south, it is bounded by the Megharian Sea; in the north, dense forests run out into a tundra that gives way to the Arctic Ocean.
The capital city Yorkshire, with a population of about 3 million and a clear focus on government, is not necessarily one of the most important or largest cities; its importance can be attributed more to its history. The city is situated on the river Grey Well, which flows fairly straight east to the ocean and served as a relatively stable border between Caerdamar and Whitehill.
The largest cities are Denser's Port on the south coast, with a population of more than 14 million, and Kharshwood on the east coast, the City of the Stock Market, with a population of about 10 million. However, one should not forget Grisbin Bay on the south coast and located near the border with Cyristhall, the City of the Navy, Wrennville Beach as fashion centre of the continent or the old Caerdamar capital Caerphilly, the City of News and Archives.

Before the founding of Yorkwell in 2852IY, there were 4 realms on Vertmaar. Cyristhall, west of the Amaranth Mountains, Caerdamar, which dominated the entire south from the mountains to the east coast, and its neighbors Modara in the northwest and Whitehill (Vyr'hallem) in the northeast. Caerdamar was clearly the most important of these, as the largest of the queendoms and with the largest and most powerful army; it was formerly a strict theocraty, which clearly shows till modern times.

In 2113IY Caerdamar came into contact with Yllitè for the first time. As the strictly matriarchal society did not warm up to the foreign men, this caused in patriarchal Yllitè (and all of Arkjon) an upsurge of women in the trading sector and later a kind of missionization, which caused in Arkjon a mixing of beliefs in the All-Father and the Great Mother, with the All-Father and patriarchism still a little stronger in many countries.
In 2811IY, however, peaceful trade relations were over, as the United Army of Arkjon landed on Caerdamar's coast and set about conquering it. Caerdamar itself was weakened by a war with Cyristhall, and Modara and Whitehill were warring with each other; by the time they settled this and rushed to their neighbor's aid, it was too late. After only six years, Arkjon's United Army had completely taken over the three countries.
The distant rulers had great plans for the "colony", but in their disagreement ruled mainly by violence, so in 2851IY, after only 35 years, the remnants of Vertmaar's governments and armies came together, rose up, and finally declared their independence as the Daughters' Alliance. This happened in Yorkshire, where the last group of Arkjon representatives had been encircled. And since they were about to start anew, they did it right and made a republic out of the Daughters' Alliance, which - very creatively - was called Yorkwell and directly declared Yorkshire as its capital.
