What No One Sees

   (3 reviews)
Genres: General Fiction
Sub-genres: Drama

Avery has been abused by his father since he was eleven, when his mom left them. Because his father is so well respected in the town (and because of Avery's own shame), no one has discovered the family's secret--his father's breakdown and delusions due to his wife leaving that he reaps on his son. When a college student arrives, Avery doesn't want to admit he might like the new guy in town. This story chronicles Avery's torment and how one person finally sees him as worthy

WARNING:  This story is highly steeped in the physical, mental, and sexual abuse of a teen (now 17) by his father.  It's a story of a small town where a respected man breaks down after his wife leaves--taking his anger and frustrations, both physical and sexual, out on his son who reminds him of his wife.  Avery's story shows how easy it is for neighbors, friends, etc, to not be aware, to miss the signs, of someone who is obviously hurting.
This story is inspired by an unfinished story on AFF called Broken by guiltypleasure (she's not on GA).

Firstly, please take heed of the warning in the blurb. This story has a lot of abuse in it and it could be a trigger to some people. Also, make sure you have a box of tissues nearby, you may need them.

This is one of Craftingmom’s stories that I reread fairly often. The reason I like it is it is real. As much we would like it not to be true things like this happen. People get away with some truly terrible things just because they have the social standing for people to not believe they would do anything bad.

Avery is a broken young man but there is hope deep inside him. When the new guy starts to take notice of him the reader sees there is a small part of Avery that isn’t broken and is still fighting.

The new guy doesn’t care about the fathers social standing. He doesn’t care about anything except for the fact that he knows something isn’t right with Avery. Towards the end, even a member of the police is getting suspicious.

I wanted to get my hands on the father in this story. I am not normally prone to violence outside of my fantasy stories (where my bad guys usually meet a very bloody and painful end) but if this jerk had been a real person I would have been out for blood.

This story treats a very sensitive subject with respect and shows exactly how it can go on right under people’s noses. As the title suggests, What no one sees, because no one looks.

A highly recommended read

This is the second story of yours that I read....I have to say you have gotta gift of making people sit on the edge as the story unfolds!! My hands were trembling as Avery was left to Degasio with the tension that what will happen next. Similarly, I was biting my nails whenever Matt and Avery met, wondering if their father would barge in and destroy their sweet time together and when Avery was discovered with the phone, oh God, my heart was in my mouth with dread that this crazy man might kill him....Damn!! Loved ur story man...I wish the ending was bit more elaborate but oh well:P
