Breaking The Illusions - An Autobiography

   (1 review)
Genres: Non-Fiction
Sub-genres: Creative Non-Fic

This story is autobiographical in nature, but I have made some modifications to protect the identities of those included in it. All the names have been changed, and in some cases things such as gender, locations, and sometimes familial compositions have been altered.

All that being said, this is MY truth, and it's time I released it so that I'm free to create from a place other than brokenness and sadness.

This will be dark, but there are spots of light in the great black. No void is truly empty when one gazes into it. The light from our eyes illuminates more than we realize.

Samuel,  I am removed from you by many decades but found myself reflected in many of your thoughts.  I hope my next thought is not depressing for you but I am moved to tell you that although I am now in my 9th decade of life, I am still searching for some parts of my true self.  I am the eldest son of the eldest son of an Italian immigrant.

Raised Roman Catholic I accepted that I would become a priest or get married and have lots of bambinos.  I was married for more than 30 years and had two grown and married children before accepting the fact that I am gay.  I have now had the same partner for more than 25 years.  And, although we are in a loving relationship, I am still searching for the next segment of my life.

Wishing you peace and contentment as you continue your own journey.  Enjoy each day.

Response from the author:

Thank you, GAV. I applaud you and your journey, and it seems like you've gone through quite a lot as well! I'm glad you found the opportunity to be true to yourself, though I'm also glad you were able to build some good things along the way. I hope your journey continues for a long time to come, and that you never stop looking for what's around the corner. It makes existence itself worth doing.

Peace,

Samuel
