House of Frost

Nick Frost is sent into the world of normals to survive. He didn't think it would be all that hard, but then there's the ghoul and the secret society and a conspiracy. Some days it might be easier of his blessing was one of fire, like his jerk of a cousin, but Nick is a life mage who is learning for the first time what it is to make friends and to have fun - and maybe even fall in love, if he can survive it all.

When you stumble upon a story from @Dabeagle you know with certainty that it's going to be a great ride. House of Frost for sure didn't disappoint!

There are the great, well carved out characters (main and supporting!), there are twists, there's horror, there's romance... Oh, and also a spark or two of magic. But above and beyond all, I think this is a story about friendship and love and how that influences even the strongest person.

Thank you for this story!

A different and unique twist on the world of magic, I almost never tick all the boxes, when recommending a story...and this story more than deserves it.

Nothing is as it seems, lies, deception and skulduggery clash with honor as we watch our intrepid hero navigate his way as part of a test to take his place amongst his peers.

It's an action packed thriller combined with a love story and as others have noted, it deserves a follow up tale sometime in the future.

Find a comfortable spot to read this...you will not regret it!

This came so close to getting five stars from me; honestly, very few stories do but...  I did love the characters most of all; I was drawn to them almost immediately.  I found the main group interesting, compelling, and totally believable.  What was even better was how well done the secondary characters were, Mr. Halstead being a prime example.

The writing was consistently good throughout the story.  I did have issues with the flow of a couple of the early chapters but every chapter after chapter four was well plotted and flowed much better.

I truly hope to have a follow up at some point.  If there was a hint of one, I might have moved my rating to a five.  The chapter flow issues really bothered me on two of the early chapters and I almost gave up on the story, but so glad that I did not; this was a grand adventure that I would not have wanted to miss out on.  The other issue was the lack of answers, yes, the epilogue did tie some of the points up; but for me the number of unanswered questions were troubling.  If I knew that there was going to be a second story, I would have been happier with how this one ended.

Do NOT let my four star rating deter you from this story; It was a grand adventure full of passion and intrigue and not a small amount of true love.  I do strongly recommend this story.  I am just bitchier than most of those that review stories here.  Can't wait to see what @Dabeagle does next.

Response from the author:

Thank you very much for your review, especially the parts that didn't go as well as they may have. Not as a defense (because I'm not offended) but the beginning is always a dicey proposition for me, even if I start in the middle of action I usually feel compelled to lay out more details than necessary. I'll also admit to trying to fool readers a bit by having Nick be awkward through chapter one, and then spring the magical component at the end of the chapter. I figured long time readers of mine may not have read the blurb and started reading, only to have that jump out at them and it brought me a perverse pleasure 🙂

Thanks for sticking with it and ultimately giving the story time to develop, and thank you for your time to review!

@Dabeagle has created a unique world in which normals live in a world with mages who are hidden from them and have established a culture of their own.  Nick Frost is the heir apparent to the mantle of the House of Frost, and just has to survives his test of survival in the normal's world.  He has the training and abilities, but is that enough?  Family intrigue, betrayals, and corruption are out to kill Nick and steal his heritage.  This beautifully written tale is full of romance and danger.  The plot is compelling with all its twists and cliffhangers.  I recommend this great tale by one of GA's outstanding authors.

Response from the author:

That's a lot of praise! Of course I'm thrilled that you loved the story so much and thank you for taking the time to review - I hope new readers agree with you!

The genre is this story is overwhelmingly fantasy, magic etc. This author has done this in a few other stories of one being You Don't Know Know Me (which I recommend if you haven't read it) but in this story its always front and center to everything going on. Going into this I figured it would be good but being that it's wasn't my favorite genre I thought I wouldn't like it as much as his other stories. But a great author is a great author and due to this authors talent I enjoyed as much as I enjoyed the others because it had all the other elements his stories have good characters, good relationships.and just the right amount of humor. A fun read

Response from the author:

Each time I switch into a different genre I wonder how well it will do, since it's not what my readers perhaps expect of me. I'm glad you stuck with it and ended up enjoying it so much. Thank you for reviewing!

The only thing I can say is, “I really hope there is a sequel to this story”.  There is so much more that the main characters can accomplish.    Great read.

Response from the author:

I never say never to a sequel, but that usually means trouble for the main characters and I'm normally reluctant to do that. If the right idea comes along or a suggestion is made I think I can run with, I won't count the idea out. Thank you for your review!
