The Summer of the Selfless 9. Ravello series

   (6 reviews)
Genres: General Fiction
Sub-genres: Drama, Coming of Age

A novel in fifteen chapters.

Fourteen-year-old Daniele Ferrero and his best friend Giacomo are finally finishing middle school. As they embark on the endless summer holidays amidst the mountains and olive groves of Italy’s Amalfi Coast, they begin to grow closer. But will Giacomo prove worthy of Daniele’s affections?

Meanwhile, Daniele’s other best friend Marco is waiting in the wings, and he suspects that Giacomo’s motives are anything but selfless.

This story continues themes explored in all of Daniele’s previous appearances in the Ravello series. I would recommend reading all of the earlier titles first, but particularly ‘Dani the Hero’ and ‘Lanterns in the Dark’.
Fair warning – Dani grows up a lot in this story. He’s not twelve anymore, and his relationships are more worldly, more real.

This book was excellent, so well crafted, the story like a puzzle where you are not ever certain how all the pieces fit together. You search to see if a piece fits where you think it might. You hope certain pieces fit together as you are swept up in the emotions. During the whole time you are transported to another world evoked with great skill. In the end the puzzle is complete, all the pieces come together, and there you are, looking at a beautiful picture with a certain satisfaction and a wonderful feeling. All this thanks to a marvellous author who has created such magic!

Once again we find ourselves in sleepy Ravello, a quaint town that time passes slowly or so it would seem. A wonderful story of young teens finding their way as they leave their childhood behind them and navigate the thrills and perils of growing up. Toss in a mystery, a broken heart or two, unexpected discoveries and events, and you'll be glad you took the time to read this.

In this continuation of stories of Ravello, young teens experience the growth of friendship through the drama that defines young adolescence.  This story is filled with adventure, emotion, intrigue, mystery and beautiful writing which brings the reader directly into the life of residents of this wonderful village.  This is a wonderful addition and continuation of this series.

I'm doing this because this story and this author deserves as many 5 star reviews as it can get the other reviews that appeared before this one already covered it more eloquently then I can .All I'll say is if you have read the other Ravello stories then this has everything you want.If you haven't read any of the series yet then stop reading this review and do yourself a favor and start reading The Summer of the Firefly

Ravello is a beautiful village in summer.  Overlooking the Amalfi Coast and filled with many wonderful gardens and homes, it is a great place to grow up.  A young group of teens look forward to a summer break from school with anticipation.  Their summer is filled with growing pains, discoveries and a dangerous mystery.  This wouldn't be their first time together, but it is an important time in their relationships as they develop the love and trust while facing their challenges.  This is another delightful story in the Ravello series and well worth your time to read.

The 9th entry in the Ravello series and we return for the summer.

Schools out for the summer holidays. We join Dani, Giacco, Marco and friends.

We follow the three friends as they start to navigate there teenage years. There holidays bring them young love, broken hearts, adventure and excitement.

Of course as this is Ravello through in a mystery or two, new faces an returning faces.

Read the other books before reading this or you will be completely lost.

Highly recommended.
