The Wardroom 2. Bridgemont

   (5 reviews)

The second installment of the Bridgemont Series starts in 1793. George Granger has been promoted to Lieutenant.

Before reading this story, consider:
1. It contains graphic descriptions of sex.
2. British money was denominated in either Guineas or Pounds. A Guinea was worth about 25-30 shillings, while a Pound was worth about 20 shillings. If coins are used, the reference is in Guineas, otherwise it is in Pounds. A guinea is worth approximately $300 US dollars in 2009, which means a shilling was worth approximately $10.
3. The characters in this story are fictional with the exception of some well-known historical figures. The involvement of those characters is fictional.
4. The story is written with modern day language, as opposed to that used in 18th century England.

The second book in the Bridgemont Series, the Wardroom sees the continuation of George Granger's growth as a naval officer.

It is a riveting tale of courage in adversity with hotspots of sex, romance and love.

A page turner for sure.

The Wardroom is the second Bridgemont tale of the series. Set in the time of the French Revolution, it is a very dangerous time for those of the Royal Navy.  George is rapidly leaving his adolescence behind and becoming a young man assuming the responsibilities and duties expected of him as an aristocrat.  He does so with both courage and compassion.  His adventures are even greater in this second  masterfully written story. His randy nature, however, is not suppressed in the least.  Mark Arbour is an author who values research to create an authentic story with great historical details subtly included.  A very compelling read!

The second book in the Bridgemont saga is equal or maybe even better than the first.  We get to see Granger's continued growth and his coming truly into his own.  It is full of battles, and not just those between ships.  Mark has done a marvelous job of weaving real history into this story.

The writing and pacing continue to be excellent.  The characters are vibrant and so well developed.  I love how the secondary characters or even those we just get glimpses of are so fully drawn.  You truly feel that you are a part of this story.

I've re-read both the Gunroom and the Wardroom and I am blown away by the gifted ability of Mark Arbour to tell a compelling tell of our charming, intelligent and randy Mr. Granger.

If you have read some of the later works in the Bridgemont Series but missed the first two, then you do not know how some of the most important characters came into George's life.

These stories are too good to be missed.  Read and enjoy!
