Slothin' It - 20. Chapter 20 - There's Slow Many Of You!

Edited the last few sentences a little, don't shoot me :D

Chapter 20 -There’s Slow Many Of You!

“Well this is a fucking mess,” I thought looking down the barrel of what had to be a big pistol. Was it really necessary for her to have a gun? She didn’t really need it to kill me and possibly eat Robby. It wasn’t like I was carrying some cake with me that I could magically force feed her, so as far as I was concerned the gun was over kill. Another smaller contraction pulsed through me causing my teeth to grind together painfully, but I kept myself upright afraid to fall forward on the longboard. “Raina… what… are… you… doing… here?”

“What do you think?” She hissed and just as quickly she lifted her gun, her intense eyes focusing right on me. My heart slowed to that of a normal sloth and I felt a scared whine escape me. Squeezing my eyes shut I saw my life in the split seconds before my death. I saw all the moments growing up living in a slow world when inside I craved to go faster. My alpha handsome face flashed behind my eyes, his yellow gaze fierce and alluring as he hovered over me about to claim me in our bed. Warmth flooded through me even as the panic and fear of death struggled inside of me. There was also Robby, I’d been so lucky to have a friend who was willing to talk for both of us, and stand up against the prejudice of the world that I always let slide. There was sadness too as I thought about Paul and how he’d betrayed me. My own twin was the very reason I was about to die. Anger mixed in with my grief and I couldn’t help but think that my mother was wrong for adoring him all these years, that he’d been a rotten sloth and a worse brother. None of that matter though, not now. I didn’t want my last thoughts to be of anything but my alpha, the man who loved me beyond every probability and possibility. A sloth and a wolf.

Two shots rang out from the gun with loud pulse stuttering pops. I squeeeed loudly clutching my round belly protectively as I sat on the stupid longboard waiting for the sharp pain of the bullets. I waited, and I waited before finally one of my eyes cracked open. Robby was chittering nervously, but he had a feirce angry expression on his face. Rain was holding her gun aimed just over my head to what I realized suddenly was something behind me. I turned and saw the large muscle man lying dead on the floor from the bullets she’d fired.

“Holy shit, she’d killed a man to protect me!” I thought with complete and utter shock, my mind finally as slow as any normal sloths as I tired to compute what had just happened. I turned to stare with wide eyes at the she wolf.

“Don’t look at me that way! You’re pack and the alpha mate of course I’m here to save you,” She hissed in an affronted voice. “I’m here to take you to your—” Raina started only to be interrupted by a rapid flash of black and grey ball of fur. Robby sprang on the she wolf's back in full furry force, pulling at her hair with everything his little raccoon hands had in him.

“Leave him alone wolf swine!” Robby hissed wildly, his wild screeching only matched by Raina’s angry howling as my friend dug his claws into her scalp, pulling her hair like a pro. I’d learned from the best. “Larry, run! I’ll hold her back,” Robby yelled hanging onto Rain with everything he had, dodging her hands with quick evasive wiggles from his chubby body.

“Robby… no… she’s—”

“Get off me you stupid coon!” She roared, pulling at the smaller plump man that was practically clawing her scalp off. Rain staggered back a step knocking into the longboard and causing it to lurch forward before suddenly I was rolling through the warehouse.

“Oh... fuckery!” I shouted.

“Shit!” I heard both of them yell pausing their stupid squabile long enough to watch me roll backwards towards the nearby loading dock. Rain made a desperate grab for the end of the board, Robby’s little raccoon paws also made a grab from where he rode on her shoulders, but both of them just missed catching the board as I careened backwards down the ramp. Squealing pathetically I held on for dear life as I road my run away train down the dark loading bay.

“Holy shit this is terrifying!” I thought, my insides trying to crawl their way out along with my anxious slups. “I don’t want to be fast anymore, someone just slow this thing down! I’ll never wish to be fast ever again!”

Part of me thought as I felt another contraction rip through me, and I rode a death trap down into the unknown, that it could not by any means get any fucking worse. Oh I was definitely wrong. A loud boom shook the warehouse just as I was rolling out into the bright daylight and into what could only be called the fray. My board shot out like a bullet into the nearest set of bodies making a terrified squeal peel from me.

“I’m going to die—”

I was scooped up just as the large skateboard collided into a group of fighting men knocking them all over like pins, their feet flying up from under them in a hilarious dramatic display. Panting I clung to my rescuer with all my slothie power, my eyes so wide they were practically rolling out of my head as I took in the fighting going on all around us. It was like a war had broken out in the warehouse parking lot and from the looks of it the majority of the participants were wolves. “Wolves...where’s Walker?” I looked around frantically, forgetting about everything as I desperately tried to find my mate. I didn’t even think to look at who was holding me, nothing crossed my mind except that I needed to find my alpha and feel safe again.

“I am glad you are not injured Larry. Alpha has been very worried,” a deep voice, one that I hadn’t expected to hear. My head whipped around as fast as I was physically capable of, so in true sloth fashion, my head did a slow motion dramatic turn to look up at the large wolf holding me bridal style in his arms. Denver didn’t look much different than he had when he had kidnapped me and Robby almost a day ago. Had it been almost a day? My perception of time was really messed up after all the drugs they’d had me on.

Hissing savagely at the large man I try to wiggle out of his iron like grip, but failed as another contraction had me going tense in his arms. I wanted to cry at the injustice of it all. Being thrust back into this traders arms, being in labor at a time like this, and above all else, being a damn sloth. Any other animal could have a possibility of getting out of this situation, but I was as good as wolf chow.

“Why… did… you… do… it?” I asked pathetically curling into the mans wide chest as I tried to breathe through another burst of pain. How could he betray Walker? Alpha had done nothing but protect his pack members and given them everything he could. Also, I’d let this fuck cuddle with me that morning after the run!”

“Do what alpha mate?” Denver asked with a furrowed brow as he evaded a group of wolves fighting some unknown men.

I narrowed my eyes. “You… kidnapped… me… and… Robby!” I shouted. “How… could… you? Alpha… trusted… you!” I hissed smacking at his face in an angry fit. Another boom shook the warehouse, the sound of grinding metal and shattering glass making me forget my angry rant. The warehouse was on fire and obviously an explosion had taken out a part of the building. Heart pounding I mewled desperately, “Robby… and Raina… are still in… there!”

“Robby? The raccoon?” Denver asked, his eyes straying towards the warehouse where I’d just come from. I nodded an odd feeling worming its way into my gut. Something wasn’t adding up, not the way this man was acting. What point was there for him to play stupid? No one was listening to our conversation. Why would he pretend he hadn’t kidnapped me and Robby? I forgot about that as I heard another loud creak of metal as the warehouse threatened to start caving in on itself from the large blasts. “Look… I’ll forgive you… if you go…. In there and… get them out,” I said desperately trying to get his attention. Granted I might forgive him for what he did if he saved my friend and (we’ll say Raina is a pack member) but Walker would be less inclined to forgive.

Denver’s eyes were looking towards the warehouse intensely a glow in his eyes that seemed like a need to go inside. He didn’t, instead he shook his head and focused back on the battle ensuing around us and started walking with purpose towards a general direction. “I must protect you. Raina will be able to protect herself and the raccoon,” he said as if reassuring himself.

“What if… she’s hurt… or… stuck on—” something flew over our heads, I think it was a frog, but with all the chaos it was hard to tell who was what and what was who.

“She will be fine. Raina was picked for the alpha mate for a reason, she is one of the strongest females of the pack,” Denver said seeming to find his destination.

“Strongest… female?” I said thoughts already swarming my mind. “If she was so strong then did that mean she’d held back during out tussle in Walker’s Cabin?” Oh I was definitely feeling a large dent to my pride at that moment. “Who... are they... fighting?” I asked watching each pack member fighting various other animals all around us.

“The same people who took you, and exotic animal ring of some sort that use this warehouse as a front. They started attacking the moment we arrived,” Denver said as if that explained everything.

I didn’t have time to focus on it when another contraction ripped through me, this one much stronger than the previous ones. My hands gripped Denver’s shirt in a death grip an almost demonic yowl emerging from me as I pulled his attention to me. “FIND… MY.... MATE!”

Denver’s eyes went wide and the large man picked up the pace just as a loud blow horn went off. “THIS IS THE POLICE, WE HAVE THE PLACE SURROUNDED! CEASE ALL FIGHTING OR THE HOSES WILL BE RELEASED.”

Denver cringed noticeably at the threat of high pressure hoses being let loose on the crowd. The threat did seem to work as majority wolves and other animals stopped fighting giving their attention to the police cars now lined up all along the parking lot. The building behind was still on fire, the sounds of breaking metal and bursting glass echoed in the now quieter parking lot.

“Oh no, Robby, where was Robby and Raina? Where was my mate?” I thought, panicking when I didn’t readily see him nearby. The sound of the burning building continued it’s loud presence only diminished by the loud roar that echoed nearby. Another equally menacing roar followed right behind it. “What… was—” I was cut off suddenly falling with Denver as he collapsed to the ground. He crashed hard onto his back, somehow protecting me through the fall so that I ended up sprawled across his chest. “What happened?” I thought looking down at the obviously unconscious wolf. Blood was flowing out from under his long dark hair from where he had been struck. Mewling I touched the big guys chest, feeling for a heartbeat. It was steady beneath my palm. “Thank god,” I didn’t want him dead, even after everything he’d done.

“I think you have other things to worry about,” a man said above me. My heart skipped, the voice sending a shiver of love and fear through me all at once. I knew that voice. My eyes slowly careened up the body and finally to the face of the man I loved, his yellow eyes devoid of any warmth. This wasn’t Walker, I knew it the moment I heard him, but he did look like my mate, identically. Heart galloping in my chest I tried to figure out why my alpha hadn’t told me about having an identical twin. It wasn’t like the topic hadn’t been brought up before.

“Who… are… you?” I croaked, my hand protectively wrapping around my belly.

The Walker imposter smiled, a weird twist of his lips that was nothing like my loving mate. “I'm Me.”

Wha? The pack has doppelgängers or everyone has evil twins? Were the wolves fighting “themselves”?

Ok not reading but the first 2 comments, and I have an idea about wtf is happening.

1) the decline of babies

2) the happenstance of multiple "same" people.

The answer is so simple.

A) It's a chameleon!

B ) a shapeshifting chimera by science gone wrong!

C) "my real answer " Clones used to increase the size of packs lacking in numbers. Which can be utilized in a similar fashion to the idea of Aeon Flux the movie.

How close am I?
