Granddad Tom Rules - 1. Matthew’s Surprise

Dear Reader: This story is the sequel to The Education of Grandpa. You should read that adventure prior to reading Granddad Tom Rules. For those of you who have not recently read The Education of Grandpa, a brief synopsis follows. The story begins after the synopsis.

Recently-widowed Geoff Parks, a/k/a Grandpa, gave his grandson, Alan, a computer for his seventeenth birthday. Alan gave his Grandfather his old computer. This was an upgrade to Grandpa’s computer which he rarely used. Alan and his friend, Mason, instructed Grandpa on use of the computer. The two young men stayed over at Grandpa’s and he accidently discovered they slept naked and shared a bed. This discovery brought about Grandpa’s long suppressed sexual urges. With his new-to-him computer, he eventually discovered the world of porn. Geoff / Grandpa soon realized he especially enjoyed male porn. Eventually, Alan and Mason discovered Grandpa’s interest in male porn. The boys came out to Grandpa and offered to assist in his quest to find Mr. Right. After several coffee dates with totally unacceptable men, Geoff found Mr. Right, Tom. While Geoff and Tom had been in the same high school class and currently were in a golf foursome, neither had an inkling the other was gay. They consummated their newfound friendship. The following story continues with an emphasis on the family of Tom, a/k/a Granddad.

The Story Begins

The following Tuesday, Tom restrained himself from speaking his true feelings while having dinner at a restaurant in Bridgeport. His eldest daughter, Mary, meekly ate her meal while Solomon, her husband, rambled on about various social and political issues. Speaking in an authoritative voice, he expressed opinions that were the complete opposite of Tom’s. Not wanting to discuss anything with this asshole, especially politics, Tom just nodded his head as Solomon rattled on. Actually, there was a reason for Tom’s holding back his opinions: they were having dinner to celebrate the seventeenth birthday of Matthew, Tom’s grandson. As his father babbled, Matthew timidly sat with his eyes down.

When Tom asked his grandson about his plans for university, his father broke in. “Matthew has decided to follow in the Lord’s footsteps and attend Adirondack College, a truly Christian place, in upstate New York.” When directly asking Matthew what he planned to study, the timid boy made no attempt to respond. The father again spoke for his son. “Of course, his studies will be based on Christian teachings. To prepare himself to serve the Lord, he will major in business management.”

Again, Tom attempted to interact with his grandson. “What are your plans for the summer?” As expected, the boy made no attempt to respond as his father stated, “As he has for the past two summers, he will work full-time as a volunteer lifeguard at Camp Hallelujah. As you know, Matthew is an accomplished swimmer. As a member of his high school swim team, he won the regional 400-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke races.”

While Tom was thrilled that his grandson excelled in athletics, he was not happy that the boy attended Christian Academy High School. Tom had never been able to establish any kind of relationship with Matthew. His mission today was to invite the boy to Eagle Lake without his parents. He realized that any confrontation with Solomon could result in an argument and make Matthew’s visit to his home on the lake impossible. That was the reason he accepted Solomon’s narrow-minded banter. He sincerely wished he could have the same rapport with Matthew that he had with his other grandchildren. Matthew was the same age as his friend, Geoff’s grandson, Alan. Those two had an amazing relationship that Tom envied. Mary’s husband, Solomon, had repeatedly rejected invitations for his family to visit the beautiful house on Eagle Lake, a true summer paradise. Mary’s explanations of her husband’s reasons for not visiting were shallow: Tom assumed Solomon, did not want his son, Matthew, to be exposed to the real world.

While quietly sitting at the table, Tom considered his relationship with his children. Mary, the firstborn meekly sat with eyes downcast. He did not remember having a meaningful conversation or hearing her express an opinion since her marriage to the overbearing and obnoxious Solomon. She appeared to be a sad, unhappy woman, a dutiful wife to a brute. His relationships with the other children, Noah and Lilac, were totally different: both were happily married and parents to spirited children. Noah, his wife, Emily, and three children aged seven, four and one, lived less than two hours from Eagle Lake in a western suburb of Boston. They had married soon after his graduation from UCONN (University of Connecticut) with a civil engineering degree. The youngest, Lilac, married Lenny, her high school sweetheart soon after graduation. Lenny was a skilled mechanic and Lilac was a part-time personal trainer. They lived in the quiet corner of northeast Connecticut. Both of these children were frequent visitors at the lake house with their families. As discussed in the first book of this series, Tom lusted after the hunky Lenny. When there were no other visitors, on hot summer evenings, after the children had gone to bed, Lilac and Lenny had no inhibitions against skinny dipping with Tom. On moonlit evenings, when Lenny came out of the water with a full erection, he would comment that his love for Lilac was fully displayed. The two would then, hand in hand, run to the house.

Tom and the families of his son, Noah, and daughter, Lilac, along with Tom’s ex-wife and husband, Simon, celebrated Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving at one of their homes. The lake house was lively with family during summer holidays: Memorial Day (early summer) Fourth of July, and Labor Day (late summer). The only damper on these holiday events was the absence of the oldest daughter, Mary, and her husband and son.

As Tom thought about his family, Solomon continued to totally monopolize the conversation with his obnoxious views on religion, politics and any person who did not follow Solomon’s way of thinking, especially minorities and foreign born. Finally, when Solomon stopped talking to chew food, Tom had the opportunity to speak, “Matthew, I have a favor to ask. I am having a contractor do work at the lake house. Prior to his beginning, I need to move furniture and all the books in my library. Would you be able to come this weekend and help me? You would also have free time to kayak on the lake, hike and relax. We’ll go out for dinner Saturday and have breakfast at the nearby diner.”

Tom was prepared for what happened next. Before Matthew could reply, Solomon proclaimed, “His visiting would not be appropriate. He needs to study, not waste his time frolicking.”

Tom replied, “I fully understand that his studies are most important. He will only do the fun activities after he has completed his homework. He will have a quiet, private place to study. I was hoping Matt could help me. I thought helping each other was what families did. If Matt is unable to help, I will have to hire someone. While the cost of hiring an outsider is not a concern, I am sad that I must pay people to do what a member of my family could, and in my opinion, should, do.” At this point Tom could have reminded Solomon of his generosity. Tom had made the down payment on their home, had purchased a car for Mary and given generous cash gifts at Christmas and birthdays. Tom correctly assumed that any cash given to Mary or Matthew would be turned over to the controlling Solomon.

Solomon came up with another excuse, “I am sure Matt would be saddened if he was unable to attend church Sunday morning. It would be a black mark on our family if he failed to visit the Lord.”

A smiling Tom replied, “I am aware of his need to attend church - not just any church - but the one your family attends every Sunday. I have made arrangements for Matthew to attend. I visited the website of your church, and discovered the service is broadcast on Zoom. I copied the link for the Sunday service. It will be available for Matthew to attend on our large screen TV. Also, my desktop computer will be available if Matthew needs it for research or writing homework assignments.”

Solomon in an annoyed voice, “Matthew does not need to be exposed to a computer with all of its corruptible material. We do not need one or have one in our house.”

Finally, for the first time Matthew spoke, “I do need a computer for both research and writing. I am the only student in my class that does not have access to a home computer. I must use either the computers in the school media lab or computers at the town library.”

Before Solomon could make another comment, Tom exclaimed, “Great, then it is settled. Matthew will come Saturday morning and stay through Sunday. He will bring his schoolwork and prayer book for his Zoom church attendance. The only question is, how will he get to the lake? Hopefully, he can borrow his mother’s car for the weekend.” Since all were aware that Tom had paid for the car, this was not an unusual request.

“As soon as we finish dessert, I will drive Matthew home so he and I can discuss the plans for the weekend.”

In the car on the way to Matthew’s home, “I hope I did not blindside you with the lake invitation? I am not forcing you to come. If you do not want to, no problem, I’ll call your parents tomorrow and tell them I must stay home in Long River and will not be able to visit the lake this weekend.”

Matthew immediately replied, “I really want to visit. Thank you for the invitation.” As he spoke, he thought to himself, ‘For two days I will not have to listen to my dad lecture me on the Bible and find something wrong with everything I do. My granddad does not appear to be the demon my dad says he is. He seems to understand me.’

Saturday morning Tom heard a knock at the side door. He was thrilled to see the smiling face of Matthew, maybe the first time he had ever seen the boy smile. Obviously, Matthew was anxious to visit or probably more anxious to get away from the controlling father, as he arrived at 8:00, earlier than Tom expected.

“Welcome to the lake. From now on when you visit, do not knock, just walk in. Consider this your home. Come into the kitchen. Even if you already had breakfast, I assume a teenager is always ready for more. I have to run upstairs and get something. I’ll be right back. Have a seat at the table.”

While Tom was happy Matthew had arrived, he was not prepared for an early visit. He was wearing a silky robe and nothing more. He expected Geoff, who was still in bed, naked, to come down soon. Very likely he would have walked into the kitchen with his robe untied, exposing his morning woodie. In the bedroom, Tom warned Geoff that their guest had arrived while he put on shorts and a T shirt. He then knocked on the door of the bedroom shared by Alan and Mason. Just opening the door a crack so he could not see in, he announced, “Our guest has arrived. Be decent when you come downstairs.”

Alan could not reply as he had Mason’s dick deep in his throat. Mason called back, “We’ll be coming soon. Thanks for the heads up.”

As he returned to the kitchen, Tom wondered, ‘Did he mean cumming soon or coming soon?’

Matthew offered to help his grandfather prepare breakfast. Soon, Geoff and the boys arrived, all wearing shorts and T shirts. Tom introduced his friend, Geoff, Geoff’s grandson, Alan, and his friend, Mason. While, initially Matthew was disappointed that he would have to deal with strangers, by the end of breakfast, he felt a friendship with Alan and Mason. Also, he was amazed with the way Alan and his friend interacted with the older men. He had been taught that one must respect his elders and only speak when spoken to. The playful banter between the men and boys was at first unsettling to Matthew. Why did these boys not respect the men many years older? Eventually, he realized their relationship was a combination of love and respect. In his home, at church, school, and the home of his paternal grandfather, no one cared what he thought. While he always gave the appearance of deference, he had learned to ignore the constant lectures.

When Matthew asked, “Where exactly did you need my help, Granddad? I brought some work clothes.”

Suddenly he realized everyone was looking at him as if he was making no sense.

Tom laughed as he explained, “I shamed Matthew’s father to permit him to visit because I needed a strong young man to help me do some projects around the house. I knew that his father would not permit his son to come if it was just a visit for fun and relaxation. Matthew, my grandson, I have a confession. I lied to your father. I have no need for the help of a handsome young man. You are here to do as you please. When I told Alan and Mason about your visit, they immediately had suggestions of stuff to do.”

Mason suggested, “I understand you are champion swimmer. While the lake is probably too cold for swimming this time of year, we could have a fun kayak and hiking adventure. We could cross the lake and then hike to the top of Eagle Mountain. How does that sound?”

Matthew cheerfully replied, “Sounds like a great adventure. When will we go?”

Granddad Tom suggested, “Why don’t you two get the kayaks ready while I show Matthew his room. If he did not bring shorts or a bathing suit, we’ll find something for him to borrow.”

Matthew relayed that he had appropriate clothes and that he would find Alan and Mason as soon as he changed.

Mason then asked Matthew, “Usually guys with the formal name of Matthew are called Matt or Matty by their friends. What do your friends call you?”

“My father insists I go by the Biblical name Matthew.”

Granddad Tom spoke up, “I think ‘Matt’ sounds a lot friendlier. I am willing to call you anything. What do you think of the more informal ‘Matt’?”

“I like it. Call me ‘Matt’.”

As Matt entered the three-bay garage through the door from the house near the first bay, he saw Alan and Mason lifting a kayak from a rack in the third bay. As Alan and Mason laid the third kayak on the floor, Mason smacked Alan on the ass. Alan laughed as he pulled Mason in for a kiss. With tongues entwined, they ground against each other, crotch against crotch. As the boys pulled apart, Alan saw a dumfounded Matt. “We have the kayaks ready.”

Matt was in a state of shock. These two boys had kissed. Without thinking he blurted out. “I am sorry I saw you two kissing. Do not worry. I will not tell anyone. I did not mean to spy on you. Your secret is safe with me.”

I hope you enjoyed reading this first chapter as much as I had writing it. Your comments are very much appreciated and help me develop this and future stories. A big thanks to pvt guy for his edits and comments.

Tom showed remarkable restraint when dining with Solomon, his son-in-law, Mary, his daughter and Matthew, his grandson. He should have invited Solomon to visit him at the lake house too, taken him out on the lake in the kayak and drowned him. What an obnoxious, dogmatic bully Solomon is. I have to wonder if he is "free" with his hands too, ensuring both his servile wife and brow-beaten son follow his version of the "Lord". The perennially pious often have a skeleton in their closest (think Jimmy Swaggart); scratch the surface and you may find Solomon lusts for all manner of "sins of the flesh".

An interesting start to this new story @Tallguyct. I hope Solomon does not make too many appearances, or if he does, he is soon exposed as a complete fraud.
