An immensely powerful story with perfect Dialogue and beautifully written Description. If you read this story, this tale will deeply move you. "But for the grace of God go I"

This is a story of survival; not of the fittest, brightest, strongest, or luckiest; but of an ordinary person that faced a horrible situation.

Well written and the characters are just so well done.  You will most likely find yourself identifying with someone in the story.

This is the type of story that stays with you and makes you think; there but the for the grace of some deity go I.

This is a compelling story that should be read. Well written and a difficult subject matter. Like Wolfm's other works, I've read this several times.

It’s been six plus years since I binge read this story, and yet, I can still remember how deeply moved I was by Matt and all he had endured.

A very worthy read in my opinion.

Don’t think about reading it, just read it!

Wow. What a read. Captivating from the first to the last page, and certainly an emotional rollercoaster. I am hesitant to comment on any specifics since the short summary of the author made it clear to me that he wants readers to discover the story as they read it, but I think it's safe to say that this is in the top and should get a "must read" badge (if something like that existed here).

I (obviously) highly recommend this story, and also the companion story "Memories of a Street Rat". Thank you @WolfM for this story!

I really can't add to what the others have already said about this incredible story I just think this story deserves more than three reviews and I hope doing this inspires a few more readers to write a review.

The one thing I will add is this is easily the best story dealing with this subject matter I ever read and I suspect other great authors writing other great stories referred to this while they were writing them.If you haven't read the other reviews yet I suggest you hold off and read the story first the author didn't want something to be revealed until it was read IMO it made  great story that much more greater.

Wow, this is well written and from the heart. It draws you in and brings tears to your eyes as the goose bumps form on your arm. It's an amazing piece of work, I'm not going to say story because it isn't, it's the authors personal experience which makes it more powerful. This is more than a recommended read it is a 'must read'.

At 16, I was too soft to have survived what Matt, the protagonist, did. Being decades older, I can see where he went wrong at times, but very much doubt I could have fared as well. Matt's story is sad, but it is a great example of how we can surmount improbable odds. I'm not much for poetry but the last two lines of Invictus come to mind:

I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.

Matt certainly is.

I hope Dan and Andrew are still part of his life.
