Started writing this series back in 2003 in another life ago. From then the series has expanded to 13 parts divided into 'Books' and Two Cycles (The Centurion and the Scion Cycles). Don't know if I will ever finish it or that it will ever have an end. That is mostly due to the fact that the series (though a Sci Fi Fantasy hybrid) is very much an allegory of my personal struggle of finding my place in the world. The series goes over many of the issues facing gay individuals and the gay community as a whole.... sexual confusion, monogamy, obsession, drug addiction, romantic betrayal. Over all there are two major themes. First, can one ever escape their past? Second, out of all the forms love can take which one should be valued most? The Centurion Cycle is the first of the two main series. The story takes place on the distant divided world of Mordel and Ares. The continent of Mordel is little more than nuclear wasteland of high tech underground cities. While its people are far less advance the land is lush and green with life. Even so Medieval Ares knows as much of war as the Dystopia of Mordel. Of all the warriors of Ares, the most feared are the Centurions of the Domus Empire. Unnaturally gifted physically no ten can match even one. Yet, just as the fire that burns twice as bright dies twice as fast, no Centurion in the history of Ares has lived past his 40th year. While they have rarely been defeated in battle the one foe they have never conquered have been the hearts of the frail yet long lived men of learning.... the Legatio. I'd like to present my first fantasy-themed story: 'The Ardor' It's a sword-and-magic type novel in which romance plays an important part. I don't want to spoiler much of the content, but the tag line reads like this: A thief who learns that stealing the wrong thing can change everything. A warrior on a journey to leave his past behind. A fallen god yearning to return to the mortal world. A story about ancient magic, decisions and love. I want to say thank you to the GA members who regularly post reviews for my story. You're the best! SInce I'm a real attention whore, I want to encourage more people to comment on the story. If something simply doesn't work for you or you think something is really good, let me know. PLEASE!

So I've been on a big fantasy reading kick lately since I'm currently experiencing the most boring summer of my short life. I used to hate fantasy because the only kind I had been exposed to was the cheesy and cliche 'charming prince sets off to rescue the princess and slays a few dragons and trolls and has zero chance of dying'. Then when I was in the book store not too long ago I stumbled across The Way of Shadows, by Brent Weeks which is the first book in The Night Angel trilogy. Long story short, something compelled me to pick it up and I did. I became absolutely hooked. It had many dark themes, sex scenes, politics, intrigue, human suffering, and the author actually killed off important characters! It blew every misconception I had about the fantasy genre out the window. Anyways, I'm getting close to finishing the trilogy and I'd like to continue in the genre for a little while. Does anyone have any good suggestions in fantasy that has more of the dark/political/suspense theme then the corny 'prince saves princess' theme? What about George R.R. Martin's A Song of Fire & Ice series? I've heard good things about it but I wanted to know if anyone here had read it or anything like it.
