  1. This week is all about help. We have a pretty extensive help system here on-site where we've taken the time to write up the answers to the most frequently asked questions. We've also made videos for some of the features on site to make it that much easier. So first things first, help your fellow members with a quick link to the appropriate help section. Help is on the red menu on every single page of the site. Don't be afraid to click the menu. Help -FAQ - Brings you to the list of common questions. You can search for the what you are having issues with the "find on page" or "Search" function of your browser. (Ctrl-F in Windows) Or you can just read through the list. Links bring you to the proper topic in the FAQ database. You can open a Support Request by clicking "Support". We prefer you don't do this for simple things, as it'll take awhile to get to you. You'll probably get a faster response to a topic on the forums. The only exception is Premium Content issues. Those you should use the Support Request for so that we can see your account information and can troubleshoot your issue easier. Staff - Shows the list of our volunteer staff on-site. Guidelines - These are the rules. About Gay Authors - This gives you a bit of a history of the site. 15th Anniversary - This was the page we ran to celebrate our official 15th birthday. Extras - Not everything fits where we'd want it and, to avoid scaring people, we hid some of the links here for those who wanted them. Editors - List of Editors on Site. (These are people listed as an Editor on a story in the Stories archive.) Beta Readers - List of Beta Readers (These are people listed as a Beta Reader on a story in the Stories archive) Categories - List of Categories in Stories. Also available in side menu on the Stories Archive homepage. Online users - List of members currently on the site. If you wish to jump straight to the help topics, you can go here: https://www.gayauthors.org/faq/ As an example, here is a Step by Step guide to posting a story on the site: Be sure to let us know if a help topic needs to be updated. Also, let us know if we need to do a video on a specific subject to make it easier to understand.
  2. I've having trouble with my subscription to Premium Content, how can I get help from site staff? There are two different ways you can do this. Go to Help and then select "Support Requests" from the upper right side menu - https://gayauthors.org/support/ Go to the bottom of any page and select "Contact Us". Fill out the form.
  3. Well the blog title asks the question, so it too early to talk about Christmas? I hope not, but then this isn't necessarily what you think it's about. This isn't about my Christmas, well may be it is in a way, or even your Christmas, It's about what I and many other people have been doing lately and how it affects Christmas for others. Some of you may know that I volunteer with a local organisation that supports homeless people, as I'm currently not face to face with our clients I carry out many of the admin duties. The last few days have been taken up with end of month admin which is a pain, but for the last few weeks I've doing the rounds with the begging bowl approaching businesses that support us on a regular basis and others that I hope will support us. It's been a hard slog, the financial crisis that we are affected by has also affected many businesses, some of our support has been cut back and a few businesses that did support us have gone out of business, I'm hoping that some of the other businesses will come on board. You are no doubt wondering why I am posting this, well the answer is simple really, I'm rattling the begging bowl. No I'm not asking anyone to send me anything, so let's get that clear. Like I have already said I know that the current financial crisis has affected most of us and that is not good. But the same financial crisis has affected others far more seriously, the truth is many are now living below the poverty line, some have lost their jobs and others have lost their homes. It's not just adults that have been affected by this, there are many children suffering too. What I'm asking is can you help? If you can in whatever small way it is please look within your own community and/or look up local charities that help those in need in your area and contribute whatever you can. Even if it's only a few pounds/dollars it will help, if your local supermarket has a collection point for food for a local food bank any extra tins or packets of food will help them to help those that need it. All charitable organisations are struggling those in need so any donations will be gratefully accepted. Even all you can give is some of your time that's more than okay, volunteers are just as valuable. If you cannot afford to do so please don't feel bad, just do your best to get by, there is help out there if you need it. Thank you for reading this and if are in a position to help one of your local charities, on their behalf I thank you in advance.
  4. Hi, I remember reading a short story - I think it was a response to a prompt but I may be wrong - and it was entirely written in dialogue. It was two men in a restaurant and, if I remember right, one was breaking up with the other. Can someone point me in the right direction please??? Thanks Caz
  5. Just a quick question as my friend and I can’t seem to agree on which of these is the correct punctuation—or if either is right, of course. A “Now, Brian,”—He glanced at me, probably to make sure I was paying attention—“we have the electronics from all the missing girls.” B Now, Brian—” He glanced at me, probably to make sure I was paying attention, “—we have the electronics from all the missing girls.” OR Are neither right and can someone help us understand? I have checked other topics and can’t find anything relevant. I also tried the internet but got conflicting answers. This is the first time I have attempted to have something interrupt the flow of speech this way. Thanks all
  6. I know I've requested help finding a story. But this story I was following seems to be lost when the software was changed a few months back. The story revolves around an 18 year old being called back to his families ranch in Australian bush after a health emergency of a family member. The 18 year old has to take over the operations of this several thousand acres ranch. The ranch apparently had a tunnel built from the basement that led to the beach, a school house for the kids of the families who work there, an air strip with housing for people that had to make stops there. I seem to recall there being an incident with either a ranch hand or a visitor who was drunk and crashed his car. One part of the story he goes to Europe after finding or getting letter about a family member. Possibly his birth mother that she's sick, he travels there, helps out with there small farm and kids. Eventually he brings them back to his home so she can rest. Any help finding this story would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Am I able to write a story on mobile phone?
  8. Hi, Guys and Girls. I am organizing my annual Macmillan Coffee morning for September, and I am looking for some different cake recipes to try out. I do the usual ones, sponge, carrot cake, fruit cake, chocolate cake, etc. I am looking for some more unusual ones to give my guests something different to taste. Maybe some of our non-UK members have some suggestions from their countries? All I ask is can you keep it fairly simple as my team has to be able to follow the recipe easily and I pay for the ingredients myself or by donation. in advance
  9. Hopefully someone can tell me the name of this story. I only have bits and pieces but I would really like to read it again. High school setting. The school loser is paired with one of the “In” guys for a project on learning about each other. The outcast gets upset with the teacher and refuses to do it. The jock chases him home and convinces him to take part so he doesn’t fail. Any clues as to the title and/or author? Update 1: The “loser” is bi racial, mom is white and the dad is black. Dad is in the military and doesn’t make an appearance in the story. Mom works at a diner where her co-workers hate her. I think the cause was she got pregnant young. The antagonist has two friends that treat the loser like shit and are factors in his attempt at suicide. The parents of the jock and his friends own a restaurant together, King something. I don’t know guys. I may be confusing two stories or not. And it really reminds me of an @Ronyx story but I couldn’t find it on his website. Im so in the mood to read this story again. Last Update: I found the story I was looking for!!! It’s called The Bully and The Brain. It’s not on here but on Nifty. Which is why my searches came up nada. If you’re interested in reading it here’s the link: https://www.nifty.org/nifty/gay/highschool/the-bully-and-the-brain/ Thanks to @Timothy M., @droughtquake, @Dabeagle & @ReaderPaul! In my search for this book I found a lot of other good reads that I forgot about, The Peace Within, A Light in the Dark Places, The Foundling, just to name a few. Well I'm off to devour these stories as I await updates to the ones I follow on GA.
  10. I enjoy writing and creating stories, but I think the problem is that I’m not the greatest writer. I didn’t take any classes, I just always enjoyed creating stories. I just finished officially my first story, and I released each chapter for people to read but I never got any feedback. I would get tons of people supporting the post where I mentioned a new chapter, but as far as commenting on the story, it was non existent. I know that writing should first and foremost be something that I enjoy and it is. Realistically though, any author is going to say that they like knowing that people are reading. Duh. Now, my story is based on non-original things and can be easily changed with a major “find and replace” but if it’s not going to be a story that people will want to read why even bother? I’m currently working on the second book wondering if there’s even a point. I guess you would have to know the background and why I’m writing the story. I started out writing a story that was based on someone I actually met. It was geared around — I don’t want to say quite yet, because if I could find a willing editor and even beta reader I may try to release my stories, but again I wasn’t getting the feedback that I wanted. Does that make me a bad writer? People tell me that I write okay, so maybe it’s the content. Most of my stories involve the gay lifestyle and situations that some people may not want to read. My current story is actually posted on my personal site—I won’t list it here, because I don’t think I’m allowed. The first, actually written story, is a fantasy, superhero story based on a planet (which is what I would have to change if I publish) that most would recognize from another story. It’s based on an alien that comes to earth to save earth but finds love in someone. Thats it for now. More later if people respond. What am I looking for? Advice on what to do with completed story? Interested in beta reading telling me how bad it is?
  11. Just wondering what you do when you know you need to write, but want to do anything but. I personally play minesweeper.
  12. Specifically, procedures in the magistrate's court vs. procedures in the crown court in England and Wales? I'm writing a story in which a sexual assault case where the victim is a minor takes place, and I want all my scenes to be correct. I've been able to find resources on basically everything except how things are actually done in the courts, and I really want to get things right. Any information anyone has would be extremely helpful.
  13. Hi all gamers. I recently got an xbox 360 from a friend that was moving back to Europe. I was more of a PC player, rpgs and strategy, but got all Dragon Age for my birthday. As I finished these ones now, I am looking for suggestions of a game to buy. I am not a heavy gamer (don't play everyday) so will probably just buy one or two. Anything good? I was thinking of looking to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition, but I want opinions or other suggestions. IF there is a good one for xbox 360, a final fantasy is also an option. I am more of fantasy guy (I am always a mage), but also liked KOTOR and Starcraft games back when I played on the PC. What should buy? 😀
  14. Anyone know what Mastershakeme is doing with their stories? They're all gone, will she be reuploading them??
  15. Hello to whomever is reading this! I've been a member for a couple of years now, but only recently realized I wanted to write. I'm hoping that someone is able to help me find the "add story" button, or just help me submit my work. I followed all the steps, up to the "add story" button on the stories tab, and I just don't know what to do! I can't find it! So, if anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  16. 😅 I'm totally lost. After having to loose my cool with new MS 10 updates or lack of, I've been trying to get a hold of what exactly it is I want. I love this site so far however, I never have the time to add anything because of time constraints. I have over 30 comp. Books with material to upload, I'm an old soul that perfers to write my thoughts down, and I apologize for lurking. I've also discovered other websites for example : Medium, which is a beautiful site : WordPress which is where I am trying to create my website and: a UK site that allows fans to subscribe to the blog /stories which in turn helps to publish your works in different formats to be purchased at stores similar to Barnes and Noble. I am confused as to what I can write according to my interests and how to tag, what words are allowed, categories etc. GA, I understand doesn't want certain "restricted" descriptive words so it makes me a bit hesitant to upload anything for fear of subjecting you all to any consequences. Medium allows you to create a "UNIQUE, POSITIVE" site which is protected for all artists, but I still need to research their respective site. I am not in any way suggesting, coercing or trying to persuade any one individual by mentioning the above sites and I'm just looking for your information for this respective site, Gay Author's. I didn't have the time to edit this, again time constraint, so if I seem confusing and scattered brained, then I've succeeded in at least nothing. I have read guidelines but still can't grasp the do's and don'ts. Maybe I'm just overthinking this, or I'm just a little bit technology challenged. I can clarify my confusion as you hopefully comment. Lost "in a galaxy far, far away," but always knaughty af, Woof🐾
  17. I have looked through the topics and I couldn't find this subject, so I will say sorry now if I am repeating a help request. I am having trouble trying to write the love scenes for my characters. I am trying to differentiate between the two characters but I am either ending up with a lot of him's, he's, hiss's. (and readers don't know who I'm talking about) or I end up calling each character by name each time and end up with sentences like 'C reached for J and J took C's hand in his.' It gets even worse when writing a ménage, I'm sure I had one character kissing himself at one point . I hope this made sense and that some of you can help. All advice is gratefully received.
  18. Folks, this post was written by Lugh some years ago and still stands. It's a pinned post, but I'm posting it again. There are two ways to find an Editor and/or Beta here at GayAuthors.org. One thing I would like to remind everyone before you start: By entering a working relationship with another member you agree not to divulge any personal information about anyone you are working with as an author / beta reader / editor as explained in the rules and this agreement is binding even if you choose leave the relationship. Option 1: Contact Cia or LJH and request one. You will need to include the same info as below in your PM to them and the will facilitate matching you to an editor and/or beta that suits your needs. Option 2: Post an ad in the Editor's Corner Subforum: Writing Support Requests Due to the sheer number of posts this forum receives the following policy has been adapted: Posts will now have formatting similar to a personal ad with authors advertising their story. Threads that do not follow this format will be deleted without notice. Ads will run for one month then be moved to the archive. If a match is made, PM Cia or Lugh, so the thread can be closed. In the TOPIC TITLE put the following information: ISO: Editor (Beta/Editor & Beta) – Genre (choose ONE) – Length of fiction (word count if you have it) (long/short/novel/novella/poetry etc if you do not) Commitment (One Time/Long Term) – Urgency (if you MUST have this done by a particular date / for a specific event such as the anthology or to meet a posting schedule) TAGS: ISO: BETA, ISO: Editor (separated by commas) helps people look you up if they are tag searching. In the BODY, put the following information: When do you want it by? What are your turn around expectations? (if this isn’t above) Have you worked with an Editor / Beta before? What do you need? Such as… Do you need line edits? Plot help? Someone to read your story and tell you what is wrong? What do you expect? Such as… Someone to fix your spelling, grammar? General advice? Someone to tell you how to write your story? Someone to write your story? How much do you have done? Where are you in the writing process? What software do you / can you use? Do you prefer comments or inline edits or do you not have a preference? And finally – a snippet of your story (except for poetry – put style) of at least 200 words but not more than 500 words. Please understand, we have a handful of active editors, some may be working on projects, others might have opted out of the program, please be patient when seeking an editor. Also, any new applicants to the editing program will need to fill in a questionnaire which I have. Once you express your interest in the program, I will send you the form to fill in. Thank you LJH
  19. My friend has a thing for Harem Anime.... And It's driving me nutters... For those who don't know what that is, A harem anime is where A boy (sometimes a flaming perv) ends up with a large number of girls obsessed with him. There is very little in the way of plot half the time @_@ It has a semblence of one.... though not usually not a very good one... almost wrote girl there instead of good @_@ *sigh* It wouldn't bother me if there was more of a plot or more complex relationship situation... I mean girls fauning over you.... not one... but six or more usually... gets kind of old after the fifth anime.... ...especially in a row... if I HAVE to see a Harem anime why can't it about a gay harem... or have some gay haremishness in it Anime Anime! gay anime where can I find some... or gay harem anime would be funny too
