What is the difference between "Follow Member", "Follow Author" and "Follow Story"? "Follow Member" is the option on the forums member profile page. Following a member will alert you to all their new content. "Follow Author" is when you follow an author from their stories profile page. Following an Author this way alerts you to new stories they post. "Follow Story" is when you follow a specific story from the story's Table of Contents page. Following a story will alert you to new chapters and/or new chapter comments, depending on your Notifications settings.

Notifications alert you to activities on the site. You can control them by going to the menu on the upper right of the page: https://www.gayauthors.org/notifications/options/ As a general rule, when you follow content, you get notifications of that content (unless you choose otherwise). Notifications follow the container rule: If I follow a topic, I get notifications to new posts in that topic. If I follow a blog, I get notifications to new posts in that blog. If I follow a blog post, I get notifications to new comments on the blog post. If I follow a story, I get notifications to new chapters (and chapter comments, if you set it that way) If I follow an Author, I get notifications to new stories and chapters.

@Thorn Wilde and I have experienced a strange bug. We got repeat notifications of @Renee Stevens linking to our stories in relation to the Guess an Author Reveal. I don't know whether @aditus and @CassieQ also got some for their reveals. In my case, I got the normal notification on November 27th, when the topic posted. But then I got these just after new year: Renee Stevens linked to your content in a blog entry: Author Guess Who #5 - The Reveal Thursday at 02:22 AM (that's the 2nd of January) Renee Stevens linked to your content in a blog entry: Author Guess Who #5 - The Reveal Friday at 06:03 AM (that's the 3rd of January) It didn't look like Renee had changed the topic in any way. I didn't get any other repeat notifications. I'm using Chrome on a Windows laptop.

You can find "Notification Settings" under your name in the upper right menu. https://www.gayauthors.org/notifications/options/ The first batch of settings is about how things work: "Send me news and information" - Everyone should keep this checked so that we can email you. "Automatically follow conent" - This allows you to automatically follow things so you get alerts to things that you involve yourself in. "Method to use for content I follow Automatically" - Select how you wish to follow stuff. Notification preferences - This allows you set how much alerting you get. On the right side is the Browser Notification which allows Gay Authors to alert you even if you aren't on the site. They can be pretty intrusive. If you wish to change them, it is at the browser level. If you want to change your browser notification, here is a how to video: The rest of the notification page allows you to set what you get as inline notifications or emails: Hope this helps!
