  1. You Complete Me by Salander. You can't write a review before a story is completed, so this is not a review, it's an appraisal and incitement to read. This story is refreshingly young and very well observed. The protagonists are young adults, or late teens, struggling with all the problems of relationships, families, and sex, that hit them. The refreshing part of this story is that it is set today and written by an author who writes about his time, now. There are lots of good authors, but not too many who write a story they are intimate with and which is set now. Older authors have text messages and mobile phones, but they don't have TicTok and Insta and they aren't today's stories. This author writes brilliantly observed characters and their inter-relationships. It is simply a great story set now, by an author who has the experience of today and the ability to write it. Very real and quite unique!

  3. I mentioned in a previous blog entry that I was reading my way through the archives and enjoying some of the previously written stories. I was going from present day backwards but decided to change tack and went back to day one, I'm now reading from the earliest entries working my way forward. This is turning out to be a great experience which I am really enjoying. We all know that there are a lot of really good stories currently being written, for example CDMX by @Carlos Hazday is a great story and part of the CJ series is definitely a recommended read, as is the whole series. But most of us, new and older members, tend to ignore the archives. This means that a lot the older stories are not being read and enjoyed. There are some great stories stories in the archives just waiting to be read and enjoyed, one of the bigger stories Working It Out by @Don H in three parts is a great piece of work and there are many more longer stories by other authors too. There are also many shorter stories some only one chapter in length that very good and well worth reading, The Boy Next Door by @PlugInMatty, A Ghost Of Christmas Past by @Codey, Beneath The Surface and More Than I Remember both by @Comicality are just a few that I've read and really enjoyed, I recommend them to everyone. Of course there are a great many more by other authors that are equally as good a read but there are just too many to mention. What I'm trying to say is yes let's all keep reading the newer stories and those still in process, but let's not forget the gems that exist in the archives. Some may not have been read by many, they may not have many reactions, chapter comments or even reviews but they are still good and worth taking the time to read, you can still leave comments reactions and reviews for them if you want to. Try reading something that has not been written by one the popular authors and give a lesser known author a try, if you do I think many of us will be surprised at how much there is to enjoy. I think it will also give an understanding of how much many authors have improved over time and how much hard work many authors put into their writing. Well I hope at least some of you have read and enjoyed this post, if you have maybe you can recommend a story from the archives, if you have read something you have enjoyed share it and let us all know. Thanks for reading.

    A New Story

At last, Hidden Secrets is ready to read. I've spent a long time editing, tweaking and getting it just right (hopefully). It's a paranormal mystery, set in a cinema. The story originated as a NaNoWriMo project, but as part of the process it has been altered and extended. Before I began, I never realised writing a mystery was such hard work. In order to keep track of all the threads, I found I had to make much more detailed notes and outlines than usual. I certainly couldn't have written just a few chapters ahead as I've done for many of my other stories. Anyway, I'll be posting a chapter every Monday (there are 22 chapters). Here's the blurb: Terry Young has just been appointed as chief projectionist in a run-down old cinema. But from day one he has problems. Resentment from the man who thinks he should have got the job. An undeniable attraction toward his general manager, Dan. And the re-awakening of psychic abilities indicating something is hidden under the building. This story is set in 2005, modern enough for there to be mobile phones and Internet access, but still within the timeframe when cinemas like the Regal, with a crew of projectionists running film still existed.

  6. Trials and Tribulations is being received a lot better than I ever imagined when I began the story. I know the heart of the story is coming from within me, my experiences, love, and desires; but without the work my editors and beta reader have put into this story, I fear a lot of what makes the story what it is, would be missing. When I first decided to try writing a story, I asked people I had met in the chat room and other people I knew online if they would edit for me. Believe me, I definitely needed one. Of all the people I asked, only one offered to help, and that was Trevor. Trevor was as excited about the story as I was, if not more. He was always there pushing me for more and more. He was exactly what I needed. I felt like I was taking too much of his time and decided to find another editor to help to take a little of the work load off of Trevor and give him more time to be young and in love. However, finding someone I could depend on proved harder than I thought it would. After the story started to have a following, more people offered to help, but I never heard back from them when it came time for the actual work. I guess that's the way of it in most endeavors. Yet, in their defense, I'm not all that good in the english department, since I've had no formal training since grade school. So, the task of editing for me is never a easy job. Which makes me appreciate Trevor all the more. In fact, I was right about taking up too much time from Trevor and he asked to be released so he could spend more time with someone. So the search was on to find a new editor. But I did find a really good editor in Fitz. He does a really smashing job. However, because of all the corrections he has to make, it takes a while before getting each chapter ready to publish. Just remember, it's my fault the delays that comes up, and not Fitz's fault. I think I do a pretty job at writing the meat and bones of the story, but what gives the story the twinkle is Wayne, aka ComicFan. He has been my beta reader since chapter 5. I'm sure if you read back or think back, you will observe a mark improvement from that time forward, Wayne is always there to bounce ideas off of and to help me make the story a little better, I can never thank him enough for all the help he has given. Trevor, Fitz, and Wayne aren't the only people that have helped me with this story. Others have helped me with medical terms and legal terms as well. I'm sure those of you that will read this will have read chapter 12 by now and noticed the introduction of the Druids in Andy's family history. I have also had some help from a friend here at GA in learning the history of the Druids and other 'old traditions'. For the time being, I will be posting chapters prior to editing and update the chapter when the editing is complete. However, if this proves to be an embarrassment to me and/or GA, I will discontinue this practice. I owe so much to Trevor, Fitz, and Wayne. Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. Don't forget to vote for your favorite authors and stories in the 2011 GA Readers Choice Awards
  7. When I posted the last chapter in this story, my life was up-side-down. For years my mother and father had sacrificed a lot, both time and money, to make sure my life was as comfortable as possible for a kid with leukemia. The weekend before this past Christmas, my mother fell down those same stairs I had and broke both of her arms. As bad as this was, especially around the holidays, we thought that was it and we could help her get through the holidays and broken arms without much problems. That wasn't to be. The accident lead to the doctors discovering major problems. It was a downward spiral for my family. I lost my mom on June 6th. Ever since, I've been mostly wandering around in a fog. I feel like I've made a major break-through and I no longer feel lost and alone. I've been thinking about T&T the last few days. Back in January, I felt like I couldn't close book 1 of T&T the way I had wanted to, so to keep from leaving people hanging and not finishing the story, I kind of ended it where it was. However, I left too many unanswered questions. Therefore, it is my intention to at least write one or two more chapters to cleanly close out this part of Andy, Joey, and Roger's lives. I look forward to reading your replies and comments. Billy
  8. Hi all! I just ran out of things to play *carefully ignoring the pile of Steam sale uninstalled games on my account* and I'd like to get ideas for what to play next. Most of all, I love a good storyline while playing. I'm thinking something immersive and multifaceted like Mass Effect, or short yet unforgettable like Portal. What do you guys like? Which games made you go, wow, that story blew my mind? -Albert
  9. Hey everyone! I'm posting here to hopefully try to generate some more interaction between myself and people about my story. I'm a very inexperienced writer, and any honest advice is appreciated (but that's not why I'm posting this). I'm hoping to spark up a conversation about how you feel so far about Muscle Memory. As a writer, my readers' thoughts and feelings are a big part of what fuels me to continue this story. Feel free to share anything, whether it's relating to a certain character or their experiences, how you feel about a certain situation, or just if you want to ask me anything about Muscle Memory specifically or even my writing general. So, to try and get the ball rolling, here is some random thoughts I've compiled about how this all came about: Muscle Memory is my very first attempt at writing fiction. Like, ever. Besides some poetry a few years back, I've never sat down and just written anything more than a few paragraphs, so starting this book was a bit daunting. Especially since I was just out of freshman year of highschool. I started the first chapter not really having any idea where it was going, but soon, a story started to take shape in my mind. Very quickly, I realized how much I loved characters. At times, I worry that there are so many in my book that they seem flat, or that there are too many for my readers to keep track of. It was definitely a risk going into my first writing experience with like 20 characters to juggle with, not to mention that I've basically made each character have something they are struggling with. Again, I worry that I'm losing depth by having so many different story arcs intertwining in my mind, but I also kind of love it. It's what I like in books. Another thing I wanted to mention is that somehow, I unexpectedly fell in love with the villain of my story. I love writing her, and I had lost hope for this story after, say, chapter 6, until one quiet night in late December, around 11 or 12, I was walking down this road and the song DNA by Lia Marie Johnson started playing through my earbuds. The song resonated deeply with me, and I also felt it tugging at something that I had put towards the back of my mind for 5 or so months. I realized that it was a newfound inspiration to give my character Alexa more depth. To do this, I felt as if she needed her own POV, which wasn't planned whatsoever. I've gotten pretty much only negative feedback on this, which saddens me, but now she is very important to the story as a whole. I've had people complain that it takes away too much from Wes and Ethan's story, which I disagree with. This is more than a romance to me. It's deeper. I feel that people who skip the Alexa chapters are missing an integral part of Muscle Memory. So regardless of how my readers feel, I still have a few more POV chapters planned. Anyway, I could go on for days about this, and that's enough rambling for now. Now it's your turn. What are your thoughts?
  10. Hey Guys, I wanted to reread a story from a few years back. Sadly I have forgotten title and author. It has a guy with a baby. He takes the baby to the hospital. The doctor treating baby was old college boyfriend. I think ones name was Ben. Sound familiar? Tried advanced search with no luck.
  11. I'm having trouble finding the delete option for my stories. Where may one find it?
  12. Yes, OK, insert your own joke here and lets get it over with I'm currently posting an old story of mine (Cal) which I wrote a year or two ago, and each chapter is usually ~4000 words. I've noticed that many stories posted here have shorter chapters than this, which is interesting only because stories I am working on more recently (and yes, they will be posted on GA I promise) are tending to have even longer chapters. So my question is essentially; as a reader, do you care how long a chapter is? Sam
  13. Am I able to write a story on mobile phone?
  14. So, I'm about to start a new series. For myself, I can tell what calls me the most when I read something... it happens when I identify myself with the characters, or at least with the character who's narrating the story... and also when it catches my attention. And you, what makes you like a story the most? I'd like to know... thanks =D
  15. Hi, I am trying to find the name of a story I read a long time ago that I can't seem to find now. It was about 2 boys that evolve their relationship into more than friendship. One of the boys has a learning disability, but is a math genius. They both get into computer programming and they end up making a company for computer chips and programs. That is where the updates stopped. I believe the story took place in Texas, maybe San Antonio. It was a really special story for me, and I would like to read it again. Thanks for all your help!
  16. Hello, everyone! I emailed my beta today and now I'm wondering what folks here think. I'm editing https://www.gayauthors.org/story/dark/theoneiwant. There are parts of it that still felt rough after posting it here the first time and I'm fixing those annoying POV shifts. Seriously, they annoyed me before but I couldn't figure out how/why at the time. Now I know how to fix them. Plus, there are some loose ends that need tied up. For example, anyone want to know why Ben was crying in the bathroom after Ollie was born? And what happened right after the birth? I know they send preemies home much earlier than they did 20 or even 10 years ago, but I'm sure Shelly would need her mom around for a bit longer. Or the S/M stuff I was dancing around before and what happened with Will to screw Ben up so completely. And of course I want to write about the wedding that never happened. That one, I know you want. LOL So, I'm thinking of breaking the story into three chunks about 75 each. 1. The One He Wants, to include the first 9 chapters. 2. The One He Needs, to include chapters 10-18. I'm thinking to end that one with Ben's kidnapping... 3. The One He Loves, to include the remaining posted chapters and some new content, to include Ollie's story and Ben/Rick's commitment ceremony. It seems weird now to be thinking about splitting up the story after having first gone from a dozen short stories into the single, complete story that it is now. I'm just thinking that 200k seems awfully long. If I want to publish this thing, which I'm totally thinking about now that GA has the new ebook system, I think it'll be better received if it's in smaller, more digestible chunks. What do you guys think?
  17. Dear all GA members I was having a chat with my mates the other day and they mentioned GA, I told then I was a member, then my mate jumped in and said that he wanted to become a member but after reading a few story on the site he noticed they were a all between gay males, he then said he wished there were a few lesbian themed stores on the site, So this got me thinking should there be a section where people who post lesbian themed stories be included on the site, it is in effect a gay relationship just with females instead of males. Please leave comments and feedback of what you think. yours, scotty94
  18. The picture says it all! LOL Who's picked a book or story to read thinking it was one thing and found it to be totally different from what you expected? How'd the mistake come about: tags not added, vague description, description didn't really fit the story, you didn't pay any attention to anything but the title...? Did the mistaken read turn out be a good thing or bad thing? Let's not flame anyone, discretion might be key if your story involves a piece of GA fiction that you have a not-so-great experience with in this way.
  19. Hello to whomever is reading this! I've been a member for a couple of years now, but only recently realized I wanted to write. I'm hoping that someone is able to help me find the "add story" button, or just help me submit my work. I followed all the steps, up to the "add story" button on the stories tab, and I just don't know what to do! I can't find it! So, if anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  20. The Author/Reader relationship is important. Symbiotic in many ways. There’s no content for readers without authors. There’s no feedback and audience for authors without readers. We all know it’s a balancing act. On GA stories I love to see engagement. On characters, plot and anything in between. You sometimes see things you missed. There can be a downside... The dreaded Spoiler! Often just a lucky guess. As a writer, Does it frustrate you when a reader foresees plot course? Do you feel the need to rewrite? Are you pleased to see the guessing? As a reader, Do you guess a possible future for story? Do you only comment up to current chapter?? I have seen some good guesses recently. It got me thinking! *no wisecracks from peanut gallery*
  21. Hi I was wondering if anyone had anything from an author called either Keith Mystery or something similar. He wrote a series of stories set in Massachusetts. I vaguely remember one of the characters was a pianist and another was a poor kid living in a run down hotel. I wanted to read the story again and I can't find it.
  22. Priorities originally stared as a response to Prompt #408, but it's grown into a full length story, so I felt it proper to create it's own thread. Please, feel free to comment on the story here, in addition to your reviews. I'd love to see a discussion about the story started. Chapter 3 - Like WOW! has been posted, you can access it here. Thanks again for reading and all your feedback. It's through reader feedback that we as writers grow. True
  23. Announcing the first entry in True's Prompts. The first was in response to Prompt #408. In this prompt we had to build a story based on the opening line: "If you threaten him again, I'll kill you!" Please enjoy my entry: Priorities https://www.gayauthors.org/story/atruefan/priorities
  24. Two part Question. What is your favorite story on GA? and Who is your favorite Author on GA, and why? Note: The Story does not have to be by the same Author who you've said is your favorite.
  25. This shall be the discussion forum for my novella Remember my Heart. This novella is part of the special 10 year Anniversary Anthology. Our theme: Secrets can Kill. Tell me what you liked/didn't like, comment on the characters, settings, etc., and ask questions! Beware spoilers if you haven't read it yet. And don't forget to check out the other stories in the anthology. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GA!!
