Since I was a little kid I've dreamed of being a writer. From the moment I learned how I just couldn't stop. Every scrap of paper I found I would write something on. Journals full of ideas, short stories, one liners, poems, songs, plays; everything you could imagine writing. I experimented with it all. Ten year old Robert even thoroughly researched (and exhausted the family printer) everything related to World War II in a failed attempt to write the next great war epic. It was a passion that stuck with me. Even when it was something I never thought I was any good at. Staring at the computer screen, reading things I typed up and laughing at myself. Cringing at the horrible dialogue. Noticing every single plot hole and poorly developed character. Beating myself up to the point I didn't want to do it anymore. Then something clicked. People in my life told me to go for my dreams. Work hard and make what you want to happen, happen. And I did. I kept writing. I kept learning. I continually put words to the page. Practicing the craft. Working towards that dream. Am I perfect? No. Do I have so much more to learn still? Yes. But what really matters is that I'm doing it. I'm writing and everyday getting closer and closer to my goal. Now at 28, I'm about to publish my second book through Amazon and couldn't be prouder of what I've achieved. I wanted to write this blog to not only talk about my books but to talk about the journey of writing and becoming a self published author. Without the people along the way that taught me what I know I would have never been able to do this. Maybe by reading this, someone else will get inspired to go for their own dream. Hopefully, I can help them on their journey.

Okay fellow human beings of the site. I have always enjoyed being given writing prompts, and judging from how awesome some of the stories I have read on this site are, I know you guys would probably give the BEST writing prompts!! SO I am hoping to find on this thread a couple of prompts that I can make into short stories, and the three best ones come January (I will post a list of the prompts and we can have some sort of a vote) will become my next three on-going stories (and the ppl who suggest them shall be the beta readers and co-authors). SO Let's see what you guys come up with (:

Hello This stems from a comment on my current (and first) story being posted here on GA. In the story, the two protagonists have unprotected (and arguably unsafe) sex. Some were, quite literally "appalled" that this would happen. Others have since been defensive of my choices. And I'm left not being sure what I feel, so I though it might be a worthwhile discussion here. As a writer, what responsibility do I have? Do I have a 'moral' responsibility to model pro-social behaviours? Do I have a responsibility to point readers towards sources of support around significant themes or issues that might come up? Am I only responsible to the characters and doing them justice in telling their story as well as I can? Is it my place to take a view on this at all? I have a lot of questions without many firm answers. When I wrote the story in question here it was my first ever attempt at fiction, and was most definitely not thinking about these questions, I was 'just' telling a story. And now, a couple of years on, I have mixed feelings about what my responsibilites are. EDIT: spelling, as always
