Has anyone read Jose Saramago's, Noble prize winner, book called 'Blindness'? If you haven't, I encourage you to read it before you watch the movie that is coming out this september 2008. From the reviews garnered, the reception of the movie at the Cannes International Festival was terrible. Screen International's Cannes screen jury gave the film a 1.3 average out of 4, while some other critics gave the film 0/4. Wow... that's kinda harsh.

I loved the book. Although I read it a couple of years ago, the message and themes from the book still resonate with me. As for the movie, I can't tell till I've seen it, but given the poor reviews, I encourage everyone to read Jose Saramango's book before the movie hits the big screen worldwide.

I have read the book (and, if you can, read it in Portuguese) and I love the book too. Once I heard the movie was coming out I started to reread it and its just as goodthe second time around. I highly suggest it. And those reviews are disappointing but not really surprising.

The trailer makes me want to reread the book, not watch the film... seems like they completely lost the spirit of the book. Hopefully I'm wrong, though. That was such a great book, and like you I still think about it from time to time, and I remember it well, much better than most other books. Maybe I should reread it, I've nothing else to read now really.

P.S. The second trailer seems better, didn't watch that before. But still, not the way I had imagined things -- it might be watchable, though.
