hh5 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 (edited) Recently there was an attack on spamhester thingy on the internet now three men were captured trying to cut into an internet cable WASHINGTON: The Internet may have been slowed by one of the largest cyber attacks ever seen, which targeted a European group that patrols the Web for spam, security experts said Wednesday. The attacks targeted Spamhaus, a Geneva-based volunteer group that publishes spam blacklists which are used by networks to filter out unwanted email, and led to cyberspace congestion which may have affected the overall Internet, according to Matthew Prince of the US security firm CloudFlare. ---- Attacks on the submarine cables running along the ocean floors carrying massive amounts of Internet traffic aren’t terribly uncommon. A series of the cables were severed for reasons unbeknownst back in 2008, for example, and again early last year, the latter of which cut off Internet service to various locations in Africa. Now three have been arrested for attempting to severe a cable feeding Internet to Alexandria. The attackers’ motivation for the attack is unknown, and they are slated for interrogation by law enforcement officials. Whether this attack is in any way related to the problems experienced with other submarine Internet cables in recent days is also unknown. Edited March 28, 2013 by hh5
